seriously? ignore e-tek?

i believe you may be taking this wrong. i think as long as you don't flame or tell someone to go f@#& themselves you'll be fine. there will always be disagreements but you can get your point across without personal attacks.

SK, i really think you'll be fine. even if someone reports every post you make i think ryan, bmw, etc. will be able to see the hidden agenda of the reporter.

Maybe that's a solution to make people think twice and thrice about reporting soas to only do so in extreme cases: have Ryan make a weekly list of reports: Who the reporter was and for what post. If there's no shame in reporting, then there should be no shame in having your name listed as the reporter, yes?

And here I thought this thread was going to be about garage shelving and organizational tools

I'm newer here and I love the site, one of the smoothest running forums I belong to. I have no issues recommending this site to others. I for one think it's moderated quite well, both by the admin and by the users.

I also think there is a healthy amount of "ribbing" with in some of the posts. Just as in real life though someone is going to read it wrong or take it the wrong way and be offended or put off by a post. We are all adults or at least we should be, and can decide for ourselves who we interact with on the forum, again as in real life you avoid people you don't get along with (my parents for example).

Blatent bashing is something I hate.

All in all an awesome sight love every minute I'm on here.

Thanks to Ryan for hosting.

I can tell you for certain that if you aren't respectful of other users and spread drama through out your posts, you won't be here for long.

I can also tell you for certain that if you are a reasonable guy and post good content, that you will have nothing to worry about.

Listen man, if this is asking too much then maybe you are here for the wrong reasons. I mean, it's just a garage and tool forum - it's not a place to vent your frustration after a bad day or during pissy moments. Sorry, this is my forum and that's not how I have the future envisioned.

No way. It is more than "just" a garage and tool forum. I mean, come one...SEMA asks about you.

Ryan I personally appreciate what you are doing here . I have been a member from back in ( the old days ) . I know there are alot of great guys here and alot of great ideas get posted here to make our Caves into a great place to hang out . I have also noticed the flame wars have gotten pretty bad over the last couple years and I find it sad that people think it is necessary to belittle another person on a board for their likes or dislikes or whatever other reasons . I feel like we are all here to help each other in one way or another and enjoy looking at the basic well worked garages as much as the OVER THE TOP showplaces. Thank you and the Mods for keeping this place a nice freindly place we can all come to and hang out .

I'm pretty new here but I like this effort. It shows me that the moderator is TRYING to keep down the political bashing, name calling and F-bomb dropping that goes on other sites.

In the last year I ultimately sold a project car and dropped off a parts seller's forum site because I got SICK of getting bashed just because my location is Southern California. The moderators there would do nothing, THEIR politics didn't seem to let them deal with it. When I got fed up and responded to the offenders - always respectfully, without name calling or profanity, all it did was rev them up more. So I regrettably said, "Who needs this?" and bailed. I've noticed at least a couple of other guys from that forum are here and that they are NOT on the other forum much anymore.

Bottomline, if you want to discuss neat garages and their uses, cool tools, this is the place. If you make a light-hearted joke about the college flag hanging in the guy's garage and he is a reasonable person, chances are it will be taken lightly. If you pepper your joke with profanity or are intentionally disrespectful, reasonable people know you're being combative, not playful. I don't think reasonable people need too much clarification, they know how to act. Chances are the people who are most uncertain what Ryan' new approach means are the ones who suspect their own personalities are a problem?

I'm hoping the report button thing will work but I also realize there are many people who don't post much or at all that will have no problem reporting a post or a member for something they don't like.I've had members PM me about my avatar who I've never heard of.Members will do things anonymously that they would never do publicly.I hope you take into account each report on a case by case basis, consider who is reporting what about who.To have somebody who has never posted to the board report some small infraction that somebody with a thousand posts has would seem counterproductive. The senior members who keep the board moving would be banned in short order and then your left with a huge membership that doesn't post.Lets face it out of the thousands of members on the board how many of them are regular posters versus lurkers. My own personal opinion, and it's just an opinion,is that you would be better served by having a few more moderators who have clear instructions on what's acceptable and what's not.I'm unsure of how many you have now but I'm sure there are times when none are online and that's when most of the flame fests happen. It's your forum to do with as you please Ryan,I hope the new plan works for you as I do believe there has been a huge change in the board in the last few years,And thanks for the great place to hang out.

Caper makes good points.

We live in an age where for every thing you do or say, there is someone out there who will be "offended."

No, it's the general vagueness of the word "drama" that, I feel, needs clarification. What is drama (at least, the drama that is to be avoided)? To some, "science fiction" is merely "drama in space", whereas others might see it as "action" or "fantasy". I think some of the definition of drama as intended by Ryan has been fleshed out earlier in this thread... perhaps it can simply be itemized and included it in the rules/code of etiquette/etc (if not already).

That's a really good idea. I doin't know if or how that would fit with Ryan's plans, but, Ryan, if you have a few more folks whom you'd trust to moderate to your standards, would that be an option you'd consider?

Just thoughts to help smooth all of this out.

Did someone in this thread say they did not like the rules? I must have missed that one, but maybe I didn't read as carefully as I should have.

Some like myself asked for a clarification of the rules. The best way to live by the law, is to know the law.
