Default How to Handle this Ebay transaction.

I recently sold a Ausco 10 Ton Floor jack, This is a Great Jack and had been completely gone thru and had a Brand New kit installed. I had it listed on Ebay for $650 which is a bargain in itself but had a offer come in and decided to let it go for $400 which made this a screaming deal for them as similar jacks retail for well over 2k, but i bought it right and have numerous 10 tons which are somewhat hard to move. Anyways i am currently out of town and made arrangements for my grandfather to assist the buyer with loading and collecting payment. When they showed up they looked over the jack and worked it up and down "without load" and decided that it didnt go up fast enough for them, and they didnt want it. Well a little history on 10 ton floor jacks and anyone who has ever been around 1 will vouch that they are not intended to be fast as it is unsafe to Lift 20000lbs fast. Well what they also didnt realize was that jack uses a transfer switch to decide how fast it should lift the load, example if you would put it under a Pickup truck it would actually come up rather quick, but put the same jack under a Loaded grain truck and it would be much slower. Anyways my grandfather was unable to convince them that it was the nature of the beast, so without even contacting me they just left. Well now im stuck with a unpaid item and fees all because they say the jack was not working properly when it fact it there was nothing wrong with the jack. What to do to protect myself financially and my ebay account? Thanks in advance fellas...

F'ing people, I tell you.

Can't you initiate a dispute through eBay or Paypal as a seller?

It's worth a try to get the fees reversed. Maybe once out of ten times eBay will back the seller, but most times they side with the buyer. You can't even leave negative feedback on the numbnuts!

thnx, jack vines

file a dispute, give them an unpaid item strike, and relist it. ebay will refund your fees.

This sounds like the proper course of action, I have no intensions of trying leave them negative feedback but definitely need to recover my fee's and dont want to damage my 100 percent feedback. Thanks guys.. Sadly they wont even answer there cell phone to discuss the sitsuation, so ive been put in the position and need to look out for number #1.

It's not worth fighting with the bidder. He's already wasted your time and money, cut your loses short and file a claim. There are multiple options, one being that the buyer did not want the item. The buyer will be sent a notice to agree or disagree to. If for some reason he disagrees then you will have to battle to get your fees back thus involving ebay (pain in the ass). If he agrees you will instantly get your final value fee back. If he does not respond then in seven days you can close the dispute and get your money back.
Guys like this usually agree or don't respond at all but now and then one has to be a jerk.

Sellers can't leave negative feedback anymore and those that leave negative comments by way of leaving a "positive" one risk losing their account.

I've filed on tons of people and received the fees back. Just can't replace the time. Sometimes it's best that it works out this way. You may get more the second time around. And to cut clowns off at the pass explain how the jack works in your listing as you did here.

That is the way to go. Just did it last night for a deadbeat bidder.

Do what you need to do to get your commission fees back. In my experience, don't sell anything so heavy on ebay, craiglist is better on those things that are too big or heavy to ship. Stuff happens when there's sellers & buyers...

You can open a case where you both agree not to do business and cancel the transaction. That is the better of the choices. If you choose to do a non paying bidder case, you run the chance of the buyer leaving neg feedback and having more trouble to get the negative removed.

I once sold a like new floor nailer on ebay. The guy tracked me down by phone to tell me it didn'y work. It worked perfectly. Described the problem to me that in fact was a feature of the unit..The striker shaft stays down untill it finishes its stroke. But he was adimant it was "broke" becuase the new ones on display at lowes didn't do that and he was nasty to boot. He never even tried to use it! Just assumed the non functional display proved I sold him junk. Sometimes you just have to deal with these dregs and move on. Sadly, sellers can no longer leave bad feedback on ebay.

First of all, Paypal has nothing to do with this situation, as no payment was made. As stated correct above, you can resolve this through eBay. In the Sold Items there is a drop down next to this item that says: Resolve A Problem. That will walk you through the process. You can get the Final Value Fee credited. You will loose your listing fees though.

This would be the first step and you basically just have to cross your fingers they follow through on their end.

When you go to the "Resolve Your Problem" page you can choose to not complete the transaction. Neither of you get negative impact an dyou get your fees back.

This *not* a crack at your grandfather. With that said, never, ever let someone else take care of your business. If you're not going to be there, don't list it. You are dealing with used, rebuilt equipment and people get nervous when they have to deal with a go- between. If you had been there you might have been able to salvage the situation.

My grandfather has forgotten more about hydraulic jacks and the repair aspect than i will ever know, and i would trust his judgement on any issue. After talking to these people its obvious they are clueless and there Ebay Feedback reflects this. There whole issue with the jack was that it didnt go up fast enough to suit, I guess where they are from they run time trials on changing tires on loaded grain carts. Vrrooomm Hillbilly Nascar.
