Default Riccar Vacuum cleaner, made in USA, Anyone have one?

My wife took the Dyson in to get fixed. While there she was told one of the best made Vacuum cleaners was a Riccar and that is made in Missouri. We are considering in trading up for one of these USA made Vacuums.

Anyone have any one (or anyone's wife) have experience with these?

Thanks!

Nope. I have the un-killable, un-sellable, un-giveawayable, furniture-leg-and-baseboard-killing, Electrolux Super J. It came with my girlfriend.

I bought my fiance a "Simplicity" (same company as riccar)for the very reason they are made in the USA and for the same price as a dyson or oreck, you get a liteweight powerhouse that sucks up the hair from our basset hound and two cats like a champ. The local vacuum repair guys comment on how well they're built too.

This is the one we have:

We use a eureka commercial canister for the floorboards and attachment stuff (hecho in mexico) - Sanitaire Boss Mighty Mite

Be careful, some models are actually made in Korea.

After going through 4 or 5 Dirt Devils in 6 months time, we bought a Riccar for our gym. 11,000 square feet of floor space vacuumed twice a week and it lasted over 10 years. Great machine.

My mother in law gave us hers a few years ago, she gave it to my brother in law first and he said it was broken and gave it back. I changed the bag pressed the reset button and it fired right up.

My wife was not impressed with it's performance on our wood floors. She was barefoot when she tried it out and she could feel all the little bits of crap hitting her toes. It did not have enough suction on a solid surface floor and the beater bar just pushed the dirt under the vacuum. It did seem like a well built unit and I was happy that it did not have one of those stupid bagless filter setups that are expensive and always clog up.

We have a Riccar Household Model RC1400 canister style. Clearly says Made in Korea on the label. We paid a lot for it but have never really liked it. The wheels are on the outside of the canister and they hang up on corners and legs. I've had to replace a few broken plastic pieces over the years. Oh well, what ya gonna do?

We have a 1500 p hepa model. The wife really likes it , I dont use it ! With all the dog and cat hair it seems like we have tumble bunnies in here, and all of our floors are hard with throw and area rugs,so it gets a real workout. Has a smaller furniture beater too that really works well. The switch went out on it when it was 2 yrs old,we took it back expecting to pay and it turns out the place we got it from warrenties it as long as we own it. I dont know if thats thier policy or Riccar's but its fine by me.

Nice, those are great vacs! I have a 1205 deluxe and a few other older Electroluxes I've collected over the years. Parts are still out there for them.

anyone else find it strange that there are apperantly people willing to pay 1600 for a vacuum?? the freedom one we might consider, either that or a dyson animal since we have 2 dogs, and a herd of cats at home

My wife paid an outrageous amount for a Miele about 10 years ago. She insisted that the canister model was the way to go. Still sucks the same now as it did then. I must admit, the thing is built like a tank.

Oh and I hate the canister type. An upright is so much easier to use - you'll never see a pro cleaner using a canister vac.

Might as well. The 100-$200 jobbers die within a year or two of use with pet hair.

I got a black Lab with coarse hair and we have this vacuum talk every couple months, as we're taking apart the vacuum that stopped, jammed, quit, etc...

The holy grail seems to be a Dyson. Right now still using an old battle axe that was put on back up status for a couple years, then called in for main duty when the Eureka crapped out. It's loud as a jet engine heavy as an anvil Dirt Devil Vision.

I don't like carpet.

really we havent had too many problems with pet hair killing vacs, ususally someone crushes part of it, or my mom gets fed up with moving it around. currently we have 3 vacs in the house, a mid grade upright, a canister, and a small upright i keep in my room since my cat likes to shed on my rug, and shred paper into tiny little bits

The design flaw that is killing the vacs is when the debris flows through the flex tube section before going into the filter/collection reservoir. The dog hair gets bundled up as its cycloned by the air and plugs up at the elbow joint. The Eureka is bad about that that we finally just put it in the garage.

We're finally recognizing we need to scrutinize the design a bit better before buying. Not a big deal for a house without pets. We vacuum one a week minimum and a couple times/wk if its shedding season so we use it hard.

I bought the Simplicity/Symmetry/Classic with tools. Lowest I found online was around $320. I walked into Bob's in Abq and they were willing to deal some. Got it for $250 plus extra HEPA bags and two belts. It is decent, quiet, does not have the hard bends that our previous Eurika had that would cause clogging. I am the main user of this vacuum (one room-my den- with carpet and three dogs) so I work hard to keep it clean. It is a decent vacuum but I have an issue with the friction lock on the hose extender as it does not hold up well when I push and pull on the hose. I am looking to modify the extender with some type of locking mechanism.

The secret to vacuuming up pet hair is a quick spray of static guard.

What does the static guard do? Right now we use the Arm & Hammer carpet sprinkles before vacuuming.
