Default Lawn Mower Lift Ideas

I have a one car garage and am on the never ending quest to make it hold everything I want and make it efficient.

To that end, does anyone have any good ideas to move my gasoline-powered lawn mower off the ground?

It's a tight squeeze in there, and if I can get this mower off the floor I might be able to put in a bench/desk.

Of course, pictures are ideal!

Thanks in advance!

How about a small garden shed for all the lawn care equipment and supplies?

Don't worry. It takes a while to drive over to China and pick up a new load. Give him time.

My neighborhood doesn't allow sheds since we have garages.

A small shed would fit the bill, if I could get it to work.

Thanks.

What kind of mower? Push mower or Rider? It makes a lot of difference.

I don't have a pic but I've seen it here before where someone built a ramp up to a platform along their wall. Nice way of storing the mower about 5' off the floor along the wall whilst storing things underneath.

It's a gas-powered push mower. Not a special machine at all.

See if you can get the handle to fold down. If it does you can put it under a workbench or in a cabinet. If you wanted to get real elaborate you could make a platform with cables that pulled it into the attic (or over the garage door).

A bicycle lift may work. This has a 50 pound load capacity. Not sure how much the mower weighs but I am sure they make stronger lifts.

***edit*** found this kayak/boat lift rated for 125 pounds.

I use a tree in front of my shop where I hang a chain hoist off a limb.
I hook up my lawn tractor to the hoist hook, put it in neutral and lift it up 45 degrees exposing the 3 blades under the deck.
Easy to use my air ratchet to change blades and grease all the zerk fittings.
Shade and early morning coolness, laying on my back in the grass, is just wonderful!

The OP means for permanent storage to free up the garage space, not for service..

But I kinda like this idea. Hang it from a tree in front yard when not in use, maybe then they would prefer a shed...

---

Seriously though OP how tall are your ceilings in the garage?

I like the way you think.

My one-car garage is one-half of a two-car garage. It's a detached building with a peak roof--a wall drops from the peak creating the two one-car garages.

At the peak, it's about 13 feet high. It's about 9 feet at the lowest point.

Build a loft in one section of your gararge to store the mower.

HOA's are the reason many of us live in neighborhoods that don't allow things like sheds to be built in the backyard and addresses a ton of other stuff. It's not for everybody so don't ever buy a house in one until you read the bylaws carefully. If you like the monopoly board look and stuff like a club house with a pool, along with the appropriate fees that come with it, then do buy in one.

Anyway, there's always creative ways around things - just have to think outside the box. I have neighbors who built their "sheds" under the deck of their walkout basements. In my case, I just re-inforced the subfloor in my garage attic and then cut a 4X4 opening in the garage ceiling (attic floor). I then hung up 12' of barn door track and installed an 800lb capacity electric hoist from harbor freight on it. All this was easily less than the price of a decent shed and gives me a 24X24 area to store tires, my mower, snow blower, and a ton of other stuff. I also added a pull down stair case.

Do you have a deck or how do you get up to your back door? My brothers home owners association doesn't allow sheds, but all we did was enclose his staircase and small landing to his rear door. This provided storage for his lawn mower, fertilizer spreader and string trimmer.

Just leave it out in the yard where ever you get done mowing, or where it runs out of gas, whichever comes first...

What about a large "doghouse" or childrens "playhouse"?
