Default A "decal" that looks like a window ...

This is sort of on topic for a garage forum ...

We have just built a new metal hangar for our planes. The long side is about 100 feet long and looks pretty boring. Obvioiusly we do not want real windows but thought that something that looked like a window might give it some personality ... like maybe something that looked like a double hung window every 15 feet or so.

I tried several google searches and if I wanted something to go in the back of my car I would have several thousand solutions. But a simple "decal that looks like a window" does not seem to exist.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Arvid

Why not go to a local sign shop and have them print some up for you? That way you can choose the scene behind each window and keep them the same size.

You can just put some shutters up, maybe a planter along the bottom of them with some flowers. You can even build a faux window frame behind the shutters.

I'd make them myself; do a single pane of glass with a grille over some frosted glass. (Or regular glass with frosted tint film) Then trim out just like a window. That way it'll be just like a real window and not look hokey when you get up close to it and it'll still be economical.

I've considered doing this before. The easiest way I've figured out to do it is find an image large enough to be printed the size of your "window", and find a local place that has a wide format printer like wolf camera, staples, etc. Ask them to print it out to the size of your window. Mount the print on thin wood and then just use simple wood molding to finish the look of the "window." Now it will be pretty dark looking but then you get into the realm of cutting the image up and printing the parts on transparencies and using a frosted glass to diffuse the day light balanced lights behind the whole thing. Throw up some before/after pictures when you get done, it will be cool to see.

Wait, wait, wait....I just re-read the other comments......are you talking about outside?
If so then do this

You can probably pick up some old windows if you have a Habitat Restore nearby for cheap. Paint the glass black from behind. Add some shutters. Should look pretty good from a distance.

Look for a wall mural at a wallpaper store. You can frame it to look like a window. In my first house I finished the basement and had a mountain scene along one wall.

Maybe just hire a Painter and paint them on. Or paint them on yourself. From a distance you will never be able to tell. Then you won't have to worry about adhesives baking in the sun and failing.

This guy is really annoying in the video but you get the idea...

Here is another one that looks pretty cool...

Look to a vinyl shop that does vehicle wraps.

They will have the software to do a vinyl for the side of the building and then all you need to do is pick a picture that you won't get bored with (although the wraps are removable).

The sky is the limit!!!!! *pun intended*

Be sure to show us what you end up with!!!

That was going to be my suggestion too.
