Default How to glue/fasten foam board together

I have a quonset hut building that has sheets of 1/2" foam board inside it for insulation. This stuff was put up with glue and has furring strips to hold it against the building. It seems ok, but I would like to fill the cavities with blow in insulation.

Where the seams meet on the sheets there are a few gaps in them. These have been sealed with duct tape & foil tape but that doesn't seem to hold very well.

I would like to put something over the seams. Maybe some 1 foot wide strips of the same foam board.

What kind of glue will stick foam board to itself?

I made a sample out of the board & liquid nails. The liquid nails just dissolved the board.

Any other ideas?

I might have to make some narrow panels out of wafer board & use it .

Here is a down view of the wall.

Thanks,
Jack

This is my 1st posting so I hope I'm not out of line with my answer.

I would try just plain 'ol Elmer's glue, or at least something along that line.

I worked for a guy at one time that was making insulated panels with 3.5" styrofoam with OSB on either side. We used an Elmer's type of glue and it worked great.

I don't know where he got the adhesive in 5 gallon pails but I would image it would be available in smaller quantities. Simply used paint rollers to apply.

As for filling the gaps at the seams, Great Stuff will work fine, and it will adhere without melting the foam.

My advice would be to test to make absolutely sure though.

Hope this helps.

They make a special adhesive that fits in your caulking gun specifically for foam board. I think it is something like PL? They carry it at Lowes on the caulk and adhesive section. YMMV.

3M makes a spray adhesive that made for use with foamboard. I've used it and it works great.

+1 if you're referring to 3Mô Polystyrene Foam Insulation 78 Spray Adhesive.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I'm going to try the spray & caulk gun adhesive .

I did some experimenting with the Elmers glue and it held fantastic.

The Elmers is only $16 a gallon . I could use duct tape to hold it in place until the glue dries.

After everything is done, I'll post the results.

Thanks again,
Jack
