Default Show us your LICENSE PLATE COLLECTION thread.

As mentioned by 38Chevy in the official License Plate swop thread, it could be a nice idea to show what you have or where you display your number plate collections.

Also if you feel like it, tell us why you collect, what value or other interesting facts you have to share about your plates.

Plates are often more than just a series of letters and numbers.

I will start with only one photo as I do still have a load to hang up.

Please add randomly to this thread and tell us what you have etc.

These plates have now mostly made it to the USA, so maybe the new owners will show them off in their collections.

I will just menion that South African plates, which they are , are made of Perspex, so end up being quite heavy and expensive to ship to the USA and elsewhere.

Having 9 provinces, South Africa has a variety of different types and styles of plates.
They also changed the style of plate, going from a town/city specific plate, to an "Alpha-Numeric" system where the 2 letter suffix denotes the province.

There you go guys....

Now please show us what you got.

The rest of my plates aren't displayed anywhere. Maybe when I get the garage finished!! My interest in plates really comes from my interst in old cars. I am restoring a 38 Chevy, so here are the 3 plates that tell the story!

A friend of mine (who collects plates) decided I needed a 1938 Illinois plate for my 38 Chevy. The rest, as they say, is history. Here are my 1938 plates.

Weird how stuff starts ehh ?

In South Africa every town/city/village used to have its own plate, and as kids (I am 49 in January) we used to love reading plates and know where a car was from..... the rest became history.

I like to build things with mine.
The headboard on my bed

The dining area of my kitchen

Oh yeah, the lights on the bottom ends of the shelf are hardwired to a switch on the wall.

This is by my basement stairs, the side door and the door to the 1/2 bath

Above my kitchen sink

The header thats between my kitchen area and living room

hallway area, up

hallway area down

I probably have more license plates displayed inside my house then most have displayed in their garages

Been a little busy so haven't been on GJ alot overthe past month or so but saw this and will have to jump in. Now I have to go home and get some pic's!
Some of mine are still in boxs but have some up. For me, it's just finding something cool like a plate or sign and saving it from the trash heap. Have traded with some on the other thread here on GJ.

ladycrusr..like what you have done! Going to do some of the same in my small home office at some point.

I don't know the specific of exactly where but it is a South African plate as far as I know. I traded a South African HAMB guy for it a couple of years ago.

This is one of my favorites. It's textured

Alot of my HAMB pals have actually sent me 1947 plates cuz my last three cars have all been '47's

There couldn't have been too many 1945 plates produced

Cool, yest it is a Stellenbosch plate.

tellenbosch is in the middle of the wine producing area of the |Western Cape.

In SA every town used to have its own registration.

Some areas have maintained it, but most hae gone to alpha-numeric in various combos.

Nice plates everyone. 38Chevy, that Delaware plate is sweet.

Here's a pic of most of my Idaho collection (and a few others). Trying to get all years and styles. Most important to me right now, however, is acquiring all 44 county codes. I am half way there. The 2nd half will be much harder to get I think.

So, I was trying to find the pic's of my old collection before I sold it off. Then I scrolled down and saw that you posted in here.
I think you got most of those headboard plates from me (at least I think you are the woman that came to my house in Dearborn Heights and told me that she needed plates for a headboard. I doubt there are two women local to me that would do that. lol)

I had over 600 plates but I sold them off. I'm glad to see that you actually did something with them.

Yep, that was me!! I can't thank you enough for selling me those plates. As you can see I made the headboard that had been floating around in my head for all those years. I'm thrilled with the way it turned out.

I do have plans to build a book shelf outt plates for my living room. You have any others that you might want to sell??

I'll have to look again but I think I have a pair of '58 Farm plates. I may have some newer ones as well. I'll try and get a pic for you tomorrow.

OK nothing fancy here, plates are hanging wherever there is room...LOL
The 3 freemason plates are all from my grandfather, the rest were given to me by friends, purchased at flea markets/ebay, or from trading. I also collect police/fire patches.

I have a smaller collection. Mostly it's those vanity plates from car and truck magazines they use in photo shoots. Here's one I have that is pretty unique:

It's heavy, maybe a pound. The recessed area is 1/4" thick and the border is 3/8" thick.

Hi mate,

I love the Sinclair brand, simply because I did not want to do my bus in Gulf colours (Which I absolutely love, but been done to death) so I started to collect and research Sinclair.... I even spoke to a lady called Britney in the legal dept at their HQ to get permission to use the colours and logos on my bus, which was given, as long as it was not for financial gain.

Problem I have found with the trading thing is that the postage costs from here are prohibitive, I have sent quite a few sets of numberplates etc to the USA.

I also have very little Sinclair stuff, mostly just cheap repro stuff off Ebay.
I do have one "No Smoking" sign in enamel, which I believe to be authentic..... which the guy who did the engine conversion on the bus gave me as a birthday present a few years ago.

All that said, what do you need, want from this side ?

I have various English number plates, and quite a lot of South African plates of various vintages.... but they are all perspex or metal/steel and heavy, so postage is usually less than a plane ticket, but more than for a sheet of paper.

Let me know, if it is no plates, I will lay some out and photograph them for you, and you can let me know what you want.

Grizz - I really don't need any UK plates. I was looking mainly for "garage art" - signs, etc. I guess I wasn't thinking about the postage issue.
Have a good day.

Got a parcel in the post today from a certain Mr Bugthug on here.

Herb, you rock !!!

Thank you very much for the generous trade and considered plates.

I love every one of them, and they will be up in the rafters tomorrow morning.

The vanity plates will be put on display until they can be added to final projects.

My wife is massively impressed and suggested I screw the plate into the middle of the headboard with an arrow to show which part is actually hers

Pardon the mess, these are a bit older (I've removed the blue plates and put up 40s/50s plate in their place). I have about two boxes that haven't been put up yet that I need to once of these days. Oldest plate I have is a 33, and some my 30s plates are WW1 veteran plates. Favorite plate is my grandpas license plate from a US military base in EU.

This is a picture from a few years ago, I don't have anything recent. Soapbox plate is in a box with the rest of my plates that aren't up yet.

Apology first.

Pics taken with my mobile phone.

Hope you get the idea.

I have a few more to put up.

Hope to get some more American plates, and also more weird metal signs.

Number plates do make me smile, especially as I know the history of many of them.

Look forward to seeing other collections.

Well, I was 30 miles down the road on the M25 on my way to a job interview this morning when the agency called to cancell..... grrrrr!!

came home but thought I would use the time productively so popped in at a car dealership to see if I could scrounge some old plates......

WOOOHOOOO !!!!

I got two plates that I did not have and have wanted before.

The first one is a Jersey Hire Car plate.
They have a huge red block to the one side and an H inside it, presumably to warn the locals and to make one stand out.
We have been to Jersey a few times and i always mentioned to Nicola that I would love one, but they are clearly unavailable...... whoops.
The other one was a pair of Guernsey island plates, because there are so few cars there, they just have numbers, whereas Jersey has a J prefix.

The other UK plates will be for trade internationally.

This week I also managed to trade a really nice 1974 Ohio plate for one of my less common South African plates.

The top one in the Pic.

Finally, I picked up this cool piece of automobilia at the bootfair this weekend, it is already up on my garage wall......

Hope you can see the detail.

Cheers for now.

Got a PM from Arizona a couple of weeks ago..... from THE Cliffmeister.

"Would you like a motorbike number plate for your collection?"

Of course my answer was Yes Please!!

So I offered a trade which was never meant to be a trade.

Cliff loves coins, especially foreign coins, so I sent him coins from three different countries where I travel to regularly.

Anyway, got back from Southampton today to find in the post a small envelope with custom stamps on.

Contents

And of course, being known in the internet world as GRIZZ..... this has to be my favourite.

So there you go, a perfect little update on here with a great gift from a big hearted guy.

Thanks Cliff.

Been away touring to France and Belgium this week on the motorbike with a friend.
Doing some war graves and battle fields.

Saw a lot of these.....

While doing quite a bit of this

We used radio comms to chat all the way.

The radio I used was loaned to me by another buddy, who also had a rather legendary BMW1000GS known as the Marakesh Express.

Andy brought me a spare number plate from that bike....

While over there in Normandy where so many men died during WW1 and WW2, I managed to find a show plate for the region.

In France number plates or Tags are kinda hard to get as there is a legal association with them etc....

However, while filling up in a rural town, I showed the proprietor the pics of m garage and he fetched me an unused plate from out back.##

These plates contain a whole lot of information.....

In Belgium the rules are similar, but I managed to get hold of 4 plate in a weird trade.

The guy also brought me a bicycle license from 1979..... apparently very rare.

Lastly, when I got home there was a tag from a Ducatti 996 waiting for me too..... from the USA.

Its been a good week.

I pretty much have every license plate I have had since I started driving in 1964. (Truck and trailer plates) and I have my California plates that I had in the service in the 60s. I have had the personal license plate, "JIMMY" since I bought my 78 Corvette in 1991. It is now on my 05 Corvette. My 78 Vette now has historical plates. (I have JIMMY W1 on my Impala SS.) Below the clock on the wall are my past motorcycle plates and I also have every 30 day tag that I have ever had.............

Finland.....anyone say Finland.

Now we know the greatest export from Finland......

Champion rally and motorsport drivers.

Got a PM from Teemu Rask in Finland Recently, commenting that I did not seem to have a Finnish plate in my collection (That was true) and would I like one??

Well, of vourse I agreed to him sending me one, and also offered him a nice plate from Cape Town to add to his garage.

So the weekend I put his plate up, toward the front of the garage where it has pride of place right next to a Democrat novelty plate ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks a lot Teemu.

There will always be another plate I am looking for, currently it is plates from any of the Arab Emirates..... Japan and also Israel.

Condition of all the plates are great, somehow the camera distorts them.

I am going to have to rearrange my plates soon, removing the nonsensical ones.

Well, I have done a bit of reading and research about this plate and have written a post on other sites where I play.

Please excuse the copy and paste here.

I am sure there are members on here from other countries who do not know about Purple Hearts.

A few weeks ago I got a PM out of the blue from a member on www.garagejournal.com asking if I wanted a couple of plates from his workshop, as he was having a clearout and general tidy up.

Of course I said Yes Please !!

I also offered him some of my plates or anything else from the UK he may want, which he declined, He replied " A pale ale on Tap in a pub will be payment enough" So I will be buying a couple of Pale Ales one day.

The plates came in the post yesterday and I had posted up a photo higher up already.

The Purple Heart plate took my fancy immediately as I know they are issued only in special circumstances.

I then PM'd him back and asked a bit more and in typical style the reply was somewhat understated.

The Purple Heart is awarded to US military personnel wounded or killed in combat. I have two, both for very minor wounds. Others have paid a much higher price for theirs.

I took the plate off of my 1932 Ford roadster when I switched to a historical plate. Arkansas is one of several states that does not require a front license plate. They changed the law during WWII to save metal. In 1943 or 44 they actually issued a cardboard plate which is now very rare. The original practice was to issue a new plate every year. Sometime after WWII they began issuing update stickers. Arkansas issues a lot of special plates. Volunteer fire fighters get a free tag as do disabled veterans. For a special fee (higher) you can get breast cancer support plates a portion of which goes to charity. Most of the universities in the state sponsor "Alumni" plates and then there are vanity plates such as "I Love Ma" which also require a premium.

I'm having these plates restored for my next hot rod. We can run year of manufacture plates if the numbers are available under the vanity program.

These are his new plates for the 32 Roadster that carried the PH plates before.

COPIED From the Purple Heart website.

The rules for issue of a PH plate in Arkansas, it differs from state to state.

COST: Both PH plate and vehicle registration are free for one vehicle, although you
must pay some miscellaneous administrative fees, such as title fee. You may have one
additional plate for $3.75. Personalization and handicapped symbol not available on PH
plates.3
PROCEDURE: GO to your local Arkansas Revenue Office with your proof of PH award
(copy of DD-214 or other) and complete the appropriate forms.
SURVIVING SPOUSE: One PH plate can be reissued to surviving spouse at the regular
registration fee for the vehicle. Surviving spouses who are not joint owners of the vehicle
must present a marriage license and death certificate.

So, here is my special plate.... which I have put in the centre of my USA collection where it belongs.

Am I pleased??? You Betcha !!!

Once again, thank you Bib Overalls, now waiting to get to a pub and buy a couple of Ales.

My collection of interesting and weird plates has suddenly taken off.

Have had some nice trades and also people contacting me out of the blue to offer me interesting and rare plates.

Today I received a nice and different plate from a Canadian trade.

SNOWMOBILE PLATE, How cool is that???

The cigarette lighter is there for size perspective.

They are about half the size of the mini ones you are selling. I think the one is from the owner's bike when he was a kid!

heres my garage , always changing. Still looking for 666 plates.
I think one of my favorite tag is the motorcycle plate from Phillipines 1959, extremely hard for me to get. I actually met a guy stationed at Clark air base, PI. he was there late 50's to 1960, and it came off his personal bike. He said he was getting old and his family didn't want any of his military stuff, but I got the plate.

JeffMoss, those are the states I need, and the place they go on the wall. I'm trying to get all 50, some 2 or 3 from each state, and some of the older ones I had years ago, I like them so some states have 5 or 6. Crazy I know , but thats the way of a true collector/hoarder.

I have all Kansas plates on one side, they go by oldest first, I think it starts with 1921 to present. All the other plates are alphabetical order. I still have about 500 plates no room to display, but they are mostly repeats.

Colt Z, thanks. J Moss, he has a nice collection, and owning a store where people give you plates is a nice gig too.
I think license plates covered on a wall is the best wall paper ever, just think if the plates could talk and tell a story of seeing the world from behind a vehicle.
Colt Z, you have a nice knack with your plate store. I just looked at your site and thats pretty cool. I would have a hard time cutting up the plates to re-purpose it but I do like the end results.

Another update.....

Got a PM recently from Thomas "The Doctor" in Holland/The Netherlands to see if I would be interested in some treasured paltes he had.

Well, you guys know I would not say no.

When he showed me, I had a little sexwee there and then, OK, not a little one.

I came home tonight from a job interview that I had this afternoon over in Watford and found the plates had been delivered by our postman.

Once again, thank you Thomas.

QUOTED FROM HIS PM

Do you want a real japanese plate as well? I've got 2, bought them for show reasons, to bolt on my japanese cars, but never bother to do so, if you want 1, it's yours.
It's a genuine one, instead of a show plate
I was told it's property of the government, so officially isn't allowed outside Japan, but I don't know how true that is. It's the same in the netherlands, but I do have a couple of old dutch plates which I didn't (have to) return to the government .

I've got a spare dutch classic plate as well, which i'm not using anymore, because I bought 2 new ones after the accident I was in last year. Rear is square (and mangled) and front is normal style. White letters on blue plate.

The plates you see include an old style Dutch plate, which Thomas managed to have on his crashed car.

The Japanese plate is one of a pair of genuine Japanese plates that Thomas had acquired some time ago to use at shows, anyone who knows the rules will know that these plates are all quite difficult to get hold of......

Lastly the German plate was a transport/transit plate he used on a car he moved from the UK back to Europe.

Once again, it means I have to rearrange the plates I have up in the garage.

Thanks Mate, I love it as well.

Because they are government property, it is quite hard to get them outside of Japan.

Got home from my New Forest ride today

Ride Report here:

http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/inde...topic=108295.0

Found a parcel......indoors.... It had been signed for by my daughter who had visited last night and slept late today after we had all gone our seperrate ways this morning, to work, school and for a ride

Kitchen table.

It had been returned to the sender "Copterdoctor" three times due to some customs glitch.

Anyway, VERY VERY Chuffed.

Different Alaskan plates....

Thanks a million mate.

Still looking for that elusive Bear shaped plate.

One day

Double whammy today.

Been busy deconstructing the kitchen (read: Gutting) today and only just got the post in. Thread started in Free Parking.

Two large envelopes for me.

Opened them both, one Local, one from Steve Vaughan in Texas.

Plates from his truck for my collection and a Gecko to go with our mask collection, as I have a few already.

Thanks a mil !!

Had a random PM from www.tnttt.com website, from one of the members....

"Would you like a couple of my old plates from Nebraska ? "

Of course I would. ;D

So yesterday they landed with some US $$'s to trade for some UK coinage.

Bargain, and thanks Lynn.

Another one of those very random plates to come into my life.

These are quite rare.

I made a comment on another forum when I saw one that someone owns..... a few weeks later I got a PM from someone to ask if I wanted one of these oval plates?

My response was predictable.

Turns out he found it at a tip years ago.... and it had ended up in a pile of stuff in his garage.

Now it is one of the stars of my collection along with my Purple Heart plate.

Thanks Billy !!

Hi Herb
Thanks for the offer.
Lets see what you have in your collection first.
I think having one printed is a bit frivolous.

My response was predictable.

Turns out he found it at a tip years ago.... and it had ended up in a pile of stuff in his garage.

Now it is one of the stars of my collection along with my Purple Heart plate.

Thanks Billy !!

I found one of those.

Grizz, this is what I found for 1963. Can you identify the long plate for me? Also what is the oval white one from. I also added new picks from plates found today. Including a constable one.

Hi Unslow

The top one is known as a "Pre-1963 plate.

In England the first car registered could have been 1 A then 2 A etc to maybe 999 A then 1 B etc.

Soon it ended up at eg. 123 ABC with sets of three letters and three number. The permutations are not endless but obviously significant.

In 1963 ( my birth year) they switched to " Alpha-Numeric" and a plate like the one on my bus would be born with the "A" suffix at the back signifying the year and some of the letters signifying the county the car was first registered in.

Thus
A - 1963
B - 1964
C - 1965

They did not use vowels and Q was excluded.

Q is use on home built specials and cars that may have been rebuilt after accidents or stuff like mad flights of fantasy.

In the seventies or eighties that series was used up and they swopped suffix for prefix.

So your plate could be off a pre 1963 car.

The oval one is Swiss and in my view quite rare.

Thanks for the info. We are still going through the garages. Finding all kinds of stuff. Do you have any idea what I could sell the Swiss one for? Who might be interested? I don't collect plates. Right now I'm trying to sell a lot of misc to pay Grandma's bills.

As always, plates are only worth what someone is prepared to pay for them.

I VERY RARELY pay for plates.

Most of my plates are direct trades where we post plates at postage costs to each other. I only buy plates at garage sales and bootfairs and then wont pay more than $2 for a random USA plate.

I was outbid at about $25 for oval and Arabic plateson Ebay before.

What you need is to either sell them all at maybe 50cents or a dollar each in a random joblot or get someone like Lonestar Blaze, Bugthug or others to give you better US guidance.

That said, I have no idea what the US market dictates.

There are plates that make stupid money though.

If I was in the USA then I would have made you a joblot offer and then sold them to traders.

Good luck.

i collected for a while before I had enough to do the perimeter of my garage at the ceiling, I mixed in dealer tags and other neat tags as well. I did two rows over my garage doors. I still will buy tags that I find interesting at a fair price. I'll have to find a spot for all those extras.....

The oval one is actually a German tourist plate. There is a German crest on it. They go for about $20.

You are absolutely right.

I went to the garage and checked.

All these years and eventually I got one and missed it altogether.

Good spot.

We got all moved in the new house and I got a nice dry clean basement to display some of my plates. My collection started with one of each michigan plate from 1910 to 1980. I have since focused on small specialized plates because the subject matter is endless and they are harder to find making it funner to collect!! I still have a few plates to finish my date set but thats on the back burner! LOL. Im just so into the small one right now.

I have displayed some of my rarest plates on this wall. I only collect original paint plates. The rest of my collection is in boxes wrapped up.

Great collection I hope some day to get close to having one for each year. You can get stamped plates in the 80s, personalized plates had the years stamped. Not sure what the last year they did it was.I think I might have them up to 92 or 93.

These two plates are the ones I wanted most desperately for years, and the condition as mentioned, is perfect. I love used plates.

They are right behind my Purple Heart plate on my list of favourite ever plates.

One went straight up, and the other one will have to wait as I am planning a bit of rearranging, getting all my rare and unusual plates together and sticking stuff like novelty plates and dealer plates together.

I think my next search will be for some Chevy dealer show plates.

Something like these in this pic.

Love the Parker one.

The plate shaped like a bear is very cool. I need to look for one of those. This Tennessee plate shaped like the state is one I picked up recently at an estate auction. They stopped doing that in 1956 and they bring pretty good money around here if you can find them. I have a huge collection of plates but until my garage gets built they sit collecting dust in boxes. I have multiples of all 50 states, a few Canadian Provinces, a couple of Indian reservation plates and a few motorcycle plates. Looking at this thread has given me some great ideas for displaying mine. Here's some useless license plate trivia... The state that's the hardest to get isn't one you'd think of. It's Delaware because their plates are not supposed to be sold or even kept by the owner. They are supposed to be turned back in to the state. It's even against Ebay rules to sell them on there although I do see them now & then. I finally got mine from a private collector who had some for sale at a car show a few years ago. Also Tennessee dosn't require a front plate so because it's an antique plate with a number system that's not used anymore I am allowed to use this NOS 1967 NH plate on the front of my 67 Camaro while using the current Tennessee Antique plate on the rear.

You will find there are several states that do what I call "CRADDEL TO THE GRAVE" its when a plate is assigned to a vehicle when bought . I know Arizonia is like that and I think New Mexico is too. When you sell the vehicle the plate stays on it for the new owner, when the car is destroyed the recycle place is suppose to turn the plate back to the state and report the vehicle no longer exists.
I got lucky and found some in a old salvage yard while on vacation. The yard owner said I could go out and look for the plates, well I was exicted to look and started opening trunks. I heard a sound I won't forget, it RATTELED, I jumped back and seen a diamondback snake under a spare tire next to a plate. I was scared but found a broom handle and got the plate out, still have it on my wall.
These plates are still around but getting harder to find. I like the Tennessee shaped plate, looking for one myself. Seen one at a swap meet but the guy wanted $70.00 for it.

Bug thug , in New Mexico now your plate is registered to the owner. You sell your car the plate stays with you, to put on your next car or whatever a new plate is 3 bucks. I always keep my old plate and get new ones.

But they are getting harder to get. Most of the old plates are nailed up in some old cantania's, bars. I'm not saying they don't exist, just aren't issued new plates every 4 years like most states do.

This will go with my number plates and signs.

I am planning to do my garage in the style of an old petrol station forecourt when Nicola lets me add the carport I want to the front of it.

I have not been successful in finding and buying a vintage petrol pump to restore yet.

However, this morning I had a rather large delivery by overnight courier.....

Pepsi can is for perspective, as is my latest "bush find" roadworks sign..... one I had eyed for about 6 months where roadworks were done a year ago.

MOT test center sign is embossed and a relic of the 60's, new ones are just vinyl stickers.

This one is solid, thick aluminium.

This sign will be just perfect for my creation, along with various others I have collected over time.

A massive thank you to mate Tim for donating it to my ongoing madness.

Hey Grizz, that sign almost looks like our nuclear fallout shelter signs looked back in the late 40's to early 60's. Nice find.

Northerngmc,

Do you have a 1959 Yukon? I don't see one in your pic. Was just wondering if they had the gold miner on it back then.

Everyone here has nice collections! There is no better way to fill up an empty garage wall if you ask me.

Yes, the top plate is a 59 Yukon plate that was cutoff on the photo. I hung them from west to east.

I think it has the gold miner on it but I will have to check.

Today was not a good day for me, so rather than rip a head off, or sit in a corner crying, I thought I would do some woodwork in the shed, but before I go there, I ended up in the garage, sorting out and grouping my "newest" number plates for my collection.

Then I took some of the plates that did not "fit" off the rafters

Followed by a significant change, including removal of all the metal signs.
They will be refitted later when I have revised the current layout of the garage interior.
This includes removing the up and over single door, and boarding up that side and fitting a large hardwood door, or a door and a half if I can find one.

After a few hours I was happy.

One side....

And looking from the other side.

I have some more room to fit some of my traded plates, and will look out for some special ones in the mean time to add.

Thanks buddy, I think it may be because it is so random.

Well, today I sent off some plates to the USA, and some were sent my way.

They fit perfectly into part of my focusing on specializing a bit in what I collect.

Disabled plates, Vet plates, and specialty relating to services like the National Guard will make it a bit more challenging.

Today's trade.

Looking forward to getting these and fitting them up in the rafters.

Copy and paste from elsewhere.

Well, after the last update, I can say that a whole load of changes have gone on in the various spaces Ashley has created.
I get the feeling he prefers to do stuff, rather than just talk about it. So posting updates are less important than actually getting out there and doing stuff.

HIS FULL BUILD THREAD HERE

http://retrorides.proboards.com/inde...=115116&page=1

I had a job interview in Portsmouth yesterday, about 5 minutes and less than a mile from his place.

So I took the torches I had made for him for the "manspace" over.....

When I got there at 10.15, I found the man busy in the kitchen.

Making some Bacon Butties.... and coffee.

These were quickly dispatched, Thanks a lot mate, they were rather good, in fact, very good.

Of course we went and had a good look at the garage, its contents, and his games room.

I have to say, the photos do not do any of the stuff he has made, any justice. It is as good as you can imagine.

While out there, he produced this book and gave it to me..... just how much better can a day get?

Ashley has also been collecting some number plates for me while doing his day/night job, and gave these to me before I left for the interview.

Included was this mini cab taxi license plate.

And possibly the most important sign ever.....

It will be going down the end of the drive at the garage, so then I can leave a sign on the house front door to say I am at the "back-END" if people come knocking.

So a great day out, meeting a cool guy and getting to feed both my belly and my hobby/habit.

Today the postman knocked and delivered this old sign, liberated 30-plus years ago by a certain Andy, member on various forums.

So another great sign to add to my slowly growing collection of random signs.

Once I have re-arranged the garage and created some new spaces, all my signs will be going up again.

You do have a PM mate.

Look what landed in the post today.

Can anyone tell me more about the meaning of the various bits of info on both.

Photobucket sucks....

I have changed the orientation of these pics but Photobucket insists on keeping it screwed up.

In other news, I have recently decided to start collecting plates with a slightly more defined theme.

So Disabled, Disabled Vet, National Guard, Fire dept, Police etc is what I will concentrate on, while still collecting random plates that appeal to me.

These landed today from a real neat trade I made with a Texan.

Plates came from his Grandfather.

Really pleased with these.

Included is my first ever "dealer plate" another one of those silly things I have always wanted.

The rest of the plates fall straight into my specialized collecting.

Before I forget, another surprise I got was this Intercourse item, and a pair of return to sender key tags.

All of these went up today, also did some rearranging.

Now I still just need a truck to go with it.

To answer your question on the Indiana plates:

The top one is for a truck with a gross weight of 7,000 pounds or less. I guess it would be a lorry where you are.
The bottom one is a regular passenger plate from Johnson County. The 41 is the county code. Indiana's plates used to only have the code and not the printed name. The other stickers on both plates are the expiration, Feb. 28, 2013

Excuse the bad pics. The reflection from the flourescent lights make some of them hard to make out but there are all 50 states, a US Government plate, US Virgin Islands & the Red Lake Band of the Chippewa Indians reservation plate. I also have some Canadian plates as well as many many others that I haven't put up yet. Just barely finished wiring the garage and have alot of stuff to hang on the walls still.

Absolutely live the idea of getting hold of US Government and also Reservation type plates.

Cool having all 50 states and a huge barn for them.

Hi Kenny, PM sent.

Thank you very much in advance.

Went to Surrey Street Rodders Wheels Day today.

Decided impulsively to go when we got up this morning, and I can honestly say, one of the nicest days out in a long time.

We dressed and wrapped up warm, so it was a good day.

I managed to find some signs, badges and a really special numberplate.

It came off a Ford Escort in Belgium that had belonged to a British soldier stationed there, hence the strange configuration.

The seller had the fairest prices I have seen in a long time. The plate, large bus stop and badges all cost me only 6.00

I also managed to find a couple of 12 meter rolls of stick on pinstripe at 1.00 each.

A great day out, photos are uploading, postin later.

Hello Grizz1963
Actually your plate came from the "british soldier in Germany" serie
For a private owned vehicle, not oficial army
as you have wo letters then three numbers it is the second serie start in 1963
It stopped in 1981 (last day of) at WA942B so you could calculate the date of reaching (if you're good in maths !)
Maybe can it help you

Thank you very much Land Cruiser
Well, as I'm owned +/- 900 US plates, I'm focused on what is a pleasure for me, nothing like a 50 states run, or a bitrthday run and so on
In an other hand, as you've an Idaho plate on your avatar, I've a great interest in "Basque" serie from Idaho, because I'm basque (you know what it is ?)
But if you want european plates you could make a job without problem.....except if you want Vatican or Monaco, what it is hard to get !!!!
I'll send a PM to you
Have a nice day

Hi Yves,

Thanks for the info.
What I posted was what the seller told me, as he had bought the car from the soldier.

I love your encyclopaedic knowlege of the plates, this is what I enjoy about plates as well.

You can PM me as well if you want.

I brought a few South African plates along as well for trade, mostly motorbike and mostly from the Eastern Cape province which si my former home.

Please do post up some random photos of some of your plates.

I thought it would fit in with the timing of the RR to add in some of the plates I was given as presents by Knucklhead, Tiger8 and BigDom for my garage.

Thanks a million guys, I was really blown away at the time by all the generosity of everyone, and still sit here grinning madly.

The plates have found their way, as many do, for various reasons to various places about my shged and garage.

The WD GRIZZ plate is on the Woodwork shed door...... Woodwork Department as well as WildDog Grizz

The GRIZZ EC plate is next to the new shelf with all the screw drivers, but specifically where I can enjoy it, and where it covers some of the knife blades hanging there.

And of course the GSPOT EC plate found its way to where people will note it.....

I have also received a load of traded and gifted plates from the USA while away,, and typically guys put a return address and possibly a real name, but never a note of forum name.

Anyway, I am sure they will ask at some point if I received their plates..... then I can say a formal thank you.

Right now is is 12.30 and I need to go lay some bricks.#

Later Dudes.

Do you have a picture of it? I have a US military plate to, but not sure where it was at. Mine is a black and white plate. I was told it could be Germany, maybe 1950's? Thanks
