Default Ideas for displaying old car license-plates

Hi all. .
I've started to collect old US car license-plates (living in Denmark) and just can't figure out a nice and easy way to display them in my garage. At the moment I have 10 - 20 plates, but hopefully more will come.

just line em up on a wall...

I'm using my collection as the floor of my 46' ford... no real rust holes in the floor or anything. I'm just going to rivet them in place, as if they were on a map.. AK in the upper left, kansas in the middle, etc...

I used a 4'x8' sheet of peg board. Bolted license plates to it and then screwed the sheet to the wall. The bad thing is only a fraction of my plates are on the wall. Seems like I only have room on the walls for the one 4x8 sheet.

I started to screw them on the wall in the garage bathroom, at the top like a border.

I don't think any display method can beat mounting them on the original, matching cars.

I have several chains that come with hanging lights and I just put a link between the plates and hang them on the wall. I have every plate that I have ever had clear back to the 1960s......... And check out the red microwave in the far right hand corner.

Well you could make something useful outt of them. I made a headboard for my bed.

I'm in the process of making a bookcase out them right now. I need about 20 more vintage plates to finish this project.

I've also used plates as crown molding and baseboard around my house

The license plates I have displayed in the garage are on the sides of the rafers as I have no ceiling.

My boss at the hardware store has several hundred plates displayed around the store. Most of them are hanging on the wall with a loop of decorator chain between them. Spaces them about about an inch or so. The rest are nailed/screwed to the wall wherever there is room!

mk2dk - Here is a link to another thread on GarageJournal that has some display ideas. http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123962
There is also a thread for trading plates http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/s...=99180&page=37
What kind of plates are you interested in? I'm sure there are guys here who would love to trade for a Danish plate.

Stopped in a state rest stop by Joplin Mo last week and they had a wall full of plates. Making a map of the country out of em. Look really cool but it was a big wall. Denice your collection looks great.
