Default fleet ratchet?

Procured a ratchet today, been sitting in this guy's tool box for ages he said. It's a smaller handled teardrop ratchet that has "fleet" written under the head. Any info on this company?

Fleet was a brand owned by Proto.

The ratchets are about the stoutest built ones I have ever found. They are very course with only 22 teeth but they are made to survive WW3 it seems.

They don't all have 22 teeth. I have one for sale right now that has 48 or 50 teeth.

Cool thanks guys. It wouldn't even ratchet when I took it home, but I cleaned it all up inside and added some grease from my grease gun and it ratchets like new, very smoothly. Maybe get some pics tomorrow, my baby is asleep right now

The OP doesn't mention the drive size, but my 3/8" has 24 teeth...

Ah yes, I missed that part.

Yeah, the pearheads have a mechanism that is almost identical to the Proto ratchet mechanism.

That will make it a 1261.

Penens Corp (acquired by Plomb/Proto in 1942) made Fleet tools... Proto used Penens for contract work for the war effort. Then later Penens changed their name to Fleet Tool Company. Cool bit of history.

I have some old Penens, Challenger, Proto and Fleet pear-head ratchets which are almost identical. If you can post up a pic of your ratchet, that would be helpful.

Your ratchet might look like a smaller version of the Penens 1661 pear-head ratchet, I bet. Check out Alloy Artifacts for more info:
http://home.comcast.net/~alloy-artif...re.html#penens

From Alloy Artifacts: "The ratchet mechanism uses a 22-tooth gear with dual pawls controlled by a lobed shifter. Basically this is the same mechanism used in all Plomb-family reversible ratchets, and the soft pawl springs give it a smooth action with minimal back-drag. "

You can find mention of Penens Corp on the Stanley-Proto website history page.

After greasing the inside it's the smoothest ratcheting ratchet that I have. Even smoother than the craftsman premium ratchets

Here is your ratchets twin, its cousin and big brother. The middle ratchet is the exact same as the Plomb made Firestone ratchets. I use my penens branded ratchets just like them allot and never had one fail me.
