Angry Craftsman Ratchet Made in Taiwan??

Today a new Craftsman ratchet that I purchased on Ebay arrived. It is a long handled, full polish 3/8" drive ratchet #44813. I thought it was absolutely great until I saw on the tag that it was made in Taiwan. The next time I get in a Sears store I'll convey my disappointment. Has anyone else noticed other foriegn ratchets sold under the Craftsman name?

Yeah, I have. I went into sears today to burn up some rewards points, and could only find one (1) USA made ratchet. It had the old style packaging, so I guess it had been there awhile. It was model 44836, and the ratchet"felt" better, whatever that is worth. I went ahead and bought it, along with some NOS Craftsman socket caps that were made in the USA.

All of their ratchet production is moving overseas. The only things they seem to still be producing stateside are RP wrenches and sockets.

Yes, the raised panel ratchets are now made in China. Full polish and thin profile made in Taiwan. Been discussed here in several threads.

I feel lucky that I snagged a RP 1/4" USA made Craftsman ratchet today. New.
USA K3AA 44807 I didn't really need it, but had been looking at some used ones at the local pawn shop. This one was cheaper than used.

Why do you care where it is made if it's great?

I didn't know they still made the 44813. I thought it was discontinued some time ago...

You should ask for a refund.

If its made to the exact same specs, the exact same tolerances, the exact same designs and the exact same materials then I live with it, but we all know the answer to that.

As another member mentioned, the raised panel ratchets are now made in China and all the fully polished ratchets are made in Taiwan.

I posted a thread comparing a USA made and Chinese ratchet. The mods locked it because a few people wouldn't stop arguing, but the pics are still there.

maybe he has pride in American production; keeping jobs here, or just hates to pay US labor prices for Chinese tools? who knows, it's his money and his tool.

While on this subject, thought I'd ask if anyone knows much about this ratchet I bought "used" yesterday.

It is a 1/4" drive long handle ratchet, model 44812. When I first saw it I thought this is a Taiwan-made ratchet, but no, it is stamped USA. Manufacturer code is VS. Anyone know much about this one?

Thanks,
Steve
