Year and intended application would be useful.

There's not really an intended application, it's got almost 190,000 miles on it & an exhaust system is in the near future so I thought I might try some headers if I can find some that won't warp, I don't want to be replacing gaskets all the time.

I figure I might as well keep it on the road, I've got some newer suspension parts on it & newer bucket seats etc. it's been a really good truck,
it's a 96 f-150 2wd it's also time for new tires & the rims are so rusty the chrome part is separating from the rest of the rim I think the chrome part is just somehow pressed on to the rest of the rim, so new rims are in the future also.

Thanks for the links.

We have/had a set of split headers for one of those. Forgot about them until you asked. Had to be one of if not the best engine ever built. One thing to watch out for is the carb butterfly shaft can wear into the carb body and engine will run lean in cylinders 3 and 4. Dont ask how ai know. LOL

My engine is Fuel Injected and I was planning on keeping it that way.

I'm in the same boat as you and hate to break it to you but, there ain't that much out there for the EFI 4.9L motors. Pretty much, the majority of performance parts are made for the Carbed versions. There are a couple of performance cams out there that are computer friendly but from my research, most performance improvements come from things like head work( 3 angle valve job), rocker replacement(used in place of new cam), spring replacement for newer ratings. The exhaust on our motors are the one's that the carbed guys use as a performance header. other than that, a freer flowing exhaust might help but to large will bring down the low end torque the motor is known for.

Check out FordSix.com and read ALOT of the threads on there.

What are your want's/needs/desire for this motor? They're not meant for speed, they're a puller motor. There are some that are high revving speed demons but it take lots of money and tooling and fabrication to make one that way. Look up a guy named French Town Flyer and read about his motor build.

Sorry to disappoint but the 4.9L version just wasn't on the market long enough for the aftermarket to really make anything for it. The carbed motors were out there for many years while the EFI version was only out for maybe 5-7( I think) before the motor was scrapped for the V6.

I see in one post that it's a 96. Is it by chance an OBDII motor? Just wondering. It's kinda been one of those things I've read both that the 96 4.9L did and did not come as an OBDII computer.
