Default Picked this old jack off of craigslist today

I couldn't resist the price.

Unfortunately it is missing that top cover piece, but some sheetmetal will have to do for now. It had an issue with the handle but I already sorted that out. I can't find any cracks or repaired damage. It works fine and just needs a clean up and it is ready for service.

I am not real familiar with these, but it looks like an old walker. The top portion off the handle has traces of white paint.

Yep, it's an old Walker. I would like to see some more pics of the upper T-handle and control knob though. Looks like somebody may have morphed some Blackhawk parts on there.

You can see the original handle style here:

This is very interesting to me. From your pics, the T-handle and control knob look like an original installation. You can tell from the Walker catalog link, there are some other Walker models with a similar style handle.

I am not a Walker jack expert, but I have not seen this model of Walker jack with this style of handle.

An early Blackhawk S-4 has a similar handle style, but with an opening at the bottom to accommodate a trigger for handle positioning.

Hiball will know. I have to order some parts from him myself for some old jack rebuilds when I get them torn down. He may even have the cover..who knows.

Wow, this is pretty trippy. I just emailed Hiball looking for a rebuild kit for the same jack. Its a Ajax brand and I thought my handle was strange too, but they must all be that style.

What does that plate on the bottom of the handle say? That will be your make/model and weight rating.

Thanks for the info guys. Hammergodthor you were spot on...i can barley make out a JAX on the top of that plate.

I also see 782 and SERIES B.

Quick search on this site found this:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=61742

And if Hiball has the cover I would be very interested.

The handle is oem for the walker produced Ajax jacks from that era. The Ajax jacks are essentially dead ringers for there walker counterparts with some small exceptions including the handle/release along with valve caps and the low/high speed valve.

Hammergodthor, or anyone else that knows, what is the original color for this jack. I see traces of red white and blue.

Mine has a green power unit, green under the cover, walker blue on the outside, and red overspray in strange places.

I still need to fab that cover but I wire brushed, primed and painted the jack today. The jack functions perfectly so I decided against dismantling it just for paint. It's going to be used and dirty soon anyways.

P.S. If anyone can post a picture of what my missing cover looks like I would appreciate it.

Well...I'm obviously no expert on Ajax units either, but I'm glad to see your jack get I.D'd correctly.

Check out post #129 of this thread to see a cover for your Ajax:

When were those produced? I could imagine late 30's and into the 40's.

Used the jack this morning for the first time...I am loving this $20 jack. Looks like this will be my 56 chevy's dedicated jack.
