Yes, all 7018 can be run on AC if you know what your doing, the 7018AC just has a few more arc stabilizers added to the flux to help keep it lit.

Why would I want to you ask? The company I work for tosses large quantities of this rod because it is no good to use anymore due to policies. Throw them in a rod oven for a few hours and their right as rain. I have an AC stick welder at home, no dc.

If you are using them for noncode compliant work then use them. Just practice, practice, practice.

Atom Arc 7018-M, scroll down a bit

http://products.esabna.com/EN/home/f...l_low_hydrogen

takes you to

http://products.esabna.com/EN/home/f...rc_7018m_7018m

by the AWS class definition, Exxx8 electrodes are low hydrogen, iron powder and AC or DC capable.

The Atom Arc 7018-M is a 'variant' of Atom Arc 7018 made/certified to meet additional MIL-spec requirements of MIL-E-0022200/10 for mechanical properties, coating moisture and diffusible hydrogen content.

Rebake is usually 700F for one hour, storage is 225-300F. Right from the ESAB Covered Electrodes Data Book, page 27.

http://www.esabna.com/us/en/support/...ndex.html#/26/

(AA 7018-M listed at the end of the chapter/section under "Additional Products", page 1-75)

All right from the ESAB website.
