Default all these toolbox threads

Between my own search for a new, bigger box, and all the other threads on here about this box or that box, got me to thinking about how much I have tied up in simple tool storage.

So I figured out last night that I currently get about 137 cubic inches per $1 I have invested in the boxes. I got this by multiplying H, D and W then dividing by cost. I've done quite well, but when I took in the impact of my pending purchase I could go two routes - Chinese International toolbox off ebay, or a used Mac combo. The international route allows me to keep my current cost structure in place, but going mac drops my overall down to 65 cubic inches per $1 which includes me selling one of my current setups.

Maybe I have too much time on my hands, or maybe I'm trying to hard to justify things. I guess I was just hoping that finally getting a high quality toolbox setup with 24"+ depth would give me more room than it does.

Damn straight, I went a step further and priced out square inches and cubic inches, since I feel square inches is more important for how I lay out tools. That's why I ended up with the International.

You hit the nail...Its about usable space, Sq footage not Cu footage. I also believe that you get what you pay for to a point, so middle of the road for me.
$3.29 pr Sq In for mine. (Snap-on)
