Default Best way to clean engine

In another post I mentioned how I got my Grandpa's old Ford Jubilee tractor at my place for the winter to give it a little TLC. Would like to get it to the point that I can paint it back in its original colors.

Some areas are gonna need a scraper and a lot of old shop towels but for general cleaning of oil and grease what works best for you guys?

Power washer or steam cleaner. If you only have a compressor then a siphon gun and a solvent (we use to use kerosene).

Since you are going to paint it you can wash it down with oven cleaner and a stiff brush. Oven cleaner will lift the old paint.

I use super clean, it is a purple engine degreaser. I get it at my local napa. I use it on my natural gas compressors with a pump sprayer, then follow with a pressure washer, looks almost new when done. Works best straight out of the bottle or 1 to 1.

$1 oven cleaner at the dollar store is a great cheap cleaner for oil and grease type. Follow that with some simple green or similar. Do some initial cleaning with a tool to get the big stuff off first. The chem cleaning works better with less bulk to deal with.

Diesel, cuts through grease well and is cheap although not the most environmentally friendly choice.
