Default Extreme Cheapskates- TV show

Have any of you guys watched this? It shows people who are cheapskates and won't pay anything for something. One guy digs into a garbage dumpster for stuff and goes around to people's tables at restaurants and gets people leftovers to take home and eat. One woman doesn't buy toilet paper. Her husband and kids use washclothes and rags to wipe their butts with. Then they throw them in a basket, wash them and reuse them. All of the kids use the same bathwater. Different!!

The show was interesting in that it shows how much money we waste. But those people go too far. Some of them are crazy

I'm a very, VERY chea... errr, frugal guy. With that said, I think at some point it becomes a sickness. I've seen older folks who were either in the depression-era or who were raised by people from that time who were very close to going over the edge on frugality.

Basically, I won't scrimp on basic needs or SIMPLE comforts to save a penny. Knowing where to draw the line is key.

Washing and reusing each paper towel 5x is a little overboard. I guess if you have nothing but free time but everyone I know has better things to do than spend hours carefully washing used paper towels without ripping them!

The same guy picked up rice from a wedding off of the sidewalk- took it home, cooked it and ate it. It was also his anniversary so he dug some wilted roses out of a dumpster along with a used teapot and some other trash and gave it to his wife. The card he gave her was from another holiday, so he scratched out the lines and wrote his own crap on it. Of course she recognized the card. That was pathetic. All of them lived in pretty nice homes, too.

So what would an extreme cheapskate in a garage/shop be like?

Making a part on a lathe and then collecting the chips and shavings so you can melt them down and make more parts

Deep discount oil change (resell the oil from somebody else's car that only has 3,000 miles on it)

Used tires

^that^

I really doubt those people are like that....even worse, some production company went looking for them.

What basically happens is that a production company will do web page telling people what they are looking for...

"Do you have an unusual hobby?"
"Do you reuse toilet paper?"

etc.

It puts the idea in their head and the create it.

About par to the Jerry Springer show....

Ate a burger at the Mickey D's that used to be in the local WalMart, was the worst burger ever ate, they have since closed & been replaced by a Subway, which I won't eat at even if someone else is paying.
