Default Car wash frequency

how often do you wash your car? Ive seen replies on other forums to this question that range from every otherday, to once every six months. Ive got a new truck, had since feb, and havnt washed it yet. Startin to feel a bit guilty about it, but wamted to know what other average folks do.

It depends but infrequently as possible. If you live in a high winter salt area try not to wash it at all. People don't realize washing salt off (or attempting to) it finds it's way into area's like door jams, creases etc.. Unless you "dip" and agitate it in a bath (lol) you won't remove alot of it so minimize or don't wash, It's tough not to though.

I also use a whole can of fluid film on certain areas in the winter. It can be difficult to remove and can attract dirt but cleans off after a couple good washings.

I usually wait till early spring when the salt is washed off the roads then i do a full detail with a quality wax. Maybe a few times during the summer and just before the salt flies again.

I use a light spray wax like Maguires and then use a detailer between waxes. Also use the California Duster twice a day. Huge saver on cleanings.

Never ever wash/wax in the sun or when truck is hot.

Daily beater, never. The truck, once a year. The fun car, not enough.

I wash mine once a week or twice sometimes. Usually roll through the automatic instead of doing it by hand.

Think I washed my S10 back in November, if not then it was April 2012

When I used to drive a car that I liked and that looked good, probably once per week. Always washing, waxing, plastic dressing etc. Nowadays I let the rain wash my daily driver - it lives in the garage which helps I guess. I keep the interior and engine bay fairly clean but only a few times per year/as needed. What still amazes me is how well an infrequently washed car cleans up when you put suds to metal. I hope to have a car I can fuss over again some day.

We have a hand car wash down the street, that sells a package to a lot of people who use cars for business, realtors etc., that is unlimited washes, sometimes more than once a day.

I use a micro fiber mop type thing, wash about every other week.

Wait a minute. Y'all are all pulling my leg right?

You're supposed to wash your cars and trucks? Like with water and soap and stuff?

I guess next you're going to tell me you're supposed to change your oil at a certain time too.

Almost had me going there for a minute!

It's kind of dusty here, and the car is black. Once a week.

When I first bought my car and my old job I'd work Saturdays and after work I'd wash and wax it which was nice doing it in January when its 0 out.
These days everything is so busy that every few months and can't remember the last time I waxed either vehicle.

I completely disagree with that assessment.

My buddies taht was way too often in the winter have the best keep and least rusted vehicles.

I have also heard the arguement that keep them in a heated garage is worse in the winter for the same reasons. The people that I know with ehated garge kept vehicels fair as good as the regular washers.

Those that keep them outside or skip the wash have the most rusted vehicles.

It has rained hard a few times over the last few months, so we haven't had to wash our cars in about 4 months or so. I don't worry too much about it.

I clean the interior every couple of months. Remove all the trash and the stuff that doesn't belong in the car. Shake out the rubber floormats and then vacuum with my little handheld Black and Decker 12V vacuum that I paid $2 for at a yard sale (love the thing). Then replace the mats. I then wipe the dashboard off and the nooks and crannies.

This!

Wintery slush/ salt mix gets the same places water does.

Keep the cars clean and they last.

My daily driver truck gets washed when it's dirty. Could be once a week or once a month. It's silver and never really looks very dirty except in the winter.

My old truck has only been washed 2 or 3 times in 14 years that I've had it on the road. But I use Griot's SpeedShine on it when necessary.

You guys that have black vehicles must like work. I will never own a black car again. Life is too short to be spending that much time cleaning a car.

When they are dirty. So, about monthly? Less for my Jeep, since the top is off on nice days (when it would get washed). More for my wife's black car, which just gets dirty before she makes it home.

We get the discounted 'books' for the local car wash, but hand-wash when we have time.
