Question Removing grease from fingers

Ok so I do have hand cleaner and one with and without pumice, however trying to clean under the fingernails is not really working and around the fingers are a little dirty.. I'm only asking because I have a little meeting with a female friend tomorrow and I don't want to UN-presentable.

I usually use the orange Go-Jo with a touch of blue Dawn mixed in. Trick is to get it on your hands and lather up before getting them wet. I think the cheery Go-Jo works better (has pumice), but orange is on sale more often around here. Blue Dawn dish soap is a great degreaser. I've also heard of people using powdered laundry detergent, think just plain Tide.

Pack vaseline under your fingernails before you work. When you are done, the vaseline will wash out leaving behind clean nails

After working the whole day on a car, and with the grease packed around my nails, I find the best thing is to jump in the shower, bring the hand cleaner (I use Goop), nail brush, and a stainless steel nail clipper. Lather up your hands, then turn on the water. Brush, lather again, use the clippers to clean under the nail and around the bed, repeat... and even then, honestly, still gonna have some grease there.

I went to Sally Beauty Supply and bought a tool for cleaning under fingernails. I figured that a company that sells to professional manicurists must have a specialty tool, right?

Nail brush in the shower AFTER you clean everywhere else, especially washing your hair. This softens up the grease. I also rub the brush over the soap before using. Works 95%.

Spray some brake cleaner on your hands and then wash up with dish soap. Anyway, I do this only as needed since I like using gloves.

Gloves are the key. Size them smaller and you wont loose much.

When I don't wear gloves I use Boraxo to clean my hands and nails. It works best from what I have seen.

I also will use a nail brush.

I been using mineral spirits for over 40 years. It's probably not good for you and might have some long term health effects. So far it's only turned my hair gray and made me gain 30 pounds.

I use an old toothbrush......

Be sure to put the Goop on dry hands and work it in thoroughly before you add water, for maximum effectiveness. I use the toothbrush first, just dip in in the Goop and start working under and around till it's all clean, then wash the rest of my hands. I use the white Goop without any pumice, that stuff will really start taking layers of skin off if you use it too much.

Dawn works well too, but I find the Goop does it best.

After the Goop I use regular hand soap to get the rest off.

Its funny, I do about the same thing with my butcherblock countertop in my kitchen (without the WD-40). The salt is an excellent abrasive and cleaning agent. It picks up as much as pumice, so long as you don't dissolve it all.
BTW, "kosher salt" works better than table salt. It is a coarser grade of salt that also has sharper grains which are more abrasive. It is cheaper too.

When you get in the shower, rake a bar of soap with your fingernails, forcing the soap
under the nail. Leave it there till you're almost done. Repeat one more time.
One way to help keep this from happening, is to rub dishwashing liquid on your hands before you start and completely rub it in.

Old mechanic's trick-- wash your hands with a mixture of dish detergent and granulated sugar. Works amazingly well and it's way more abrasive than any commercial hand cleaner.

Or you can be a "real" man like some of these guys and just cut off your fingertips....problem solved! LOL

When I wrenched for a living my hands would be stained and nothing would clean them other than washing a few sink fulls of dishes with some BLUE DAWN and hot water. It worked every time.

There's something special about Blue Dawn. The other colors will not do some of the funky, strange things that the blue will do.

I've tried it all and I always revert back to a pot scrubber sponge, plain old bar soap and short fingernails.

Agree with Doublemup#39, tried just about everything W D40 will dissolve grease, oil etc. without harming skin, pumice will eventually over scuffs your hands etc I wash with WD40 until you can see the grease break down and follow up with Dawn, sometimes a 2nd helping is needed but wont hurt your skin

Wash your hands with a little fresh motor oil. (Like dissolves like) then do the dishes and add bleach to the water. Still not clean? Wear nitrile gloves when it's hot out and you'll sweat the rest of the dirt out of your pores before the sweat evaporates. Still not clean? Wash your hands with pure bleach using the brush. This last step will make your hands soft for the laaaaadyssssssss.

I have a small laundry brush for this exact reason.
Put the cleaner on the brush and then scrub away, I had great results with doing that.

Like others said. Some of our day job bosses wouldn't appreciate the appearance one bit. Big no no where I work. I wear mechanics gloves if I know I'm going to be working on something super greasy.
