Default Miracle Truss - Closed their doors

I just received an email from a friend, his neighbor purchased second hand a Miracle Truss building that had never been assembled. He decide to make it a bit longer and wanted to purchase some more trusses from Miracle Truss and he discovered Miracle Truss is no longer in business.

I had been considering a MT building myself because I wanted a large clear span steel building that I could easily stucco to match my house which is a HOA reqirement where I live.

I had earlier asked for leads to other companies that make a steel truss style building with wood girts and purlins so I could side it with OSB and stucco. I given the name Web Steel out of Sandy, OR. http://www.websteel.com/

Does anyone have any experience with this company they would share with me?

almost went with them or miracle truss , i really wanted a open sealing but my local building inspector wanted a engineer stamp on everything so i went with traditional pole barn construction with trusses spaced at 4 foot , good thing about stratospan is they have steel plants thru out the country so shipping or pick-up will be cheaper

These folks make a clone of the Miracle Truss building. Don't know anything about them beyond the fact I've seen someone on this board mention them in the past.

Its a sign of the times. I copied a picture of a garage from their website, I wanted mine to look like. It had a 4' overhang along the whole length of it for firewood. Really nice garage.

I'm surprised their business model held up as long as it did. Where else can you pay for a whole building and get less than half?

I nearly hung up on them out of pure frustration with the sales rep when I was shopping for a building. See ya MT.

I was never impressed either. A co-worker has a garage built using the Miracle Truss columns and trusses, thats all. He finished the outside with OSB covered with siding. MT wanted a fortune for taller columns so he poured raised piers to get the height, it was cheaper to build wooden box forms and rebar and concrete than it was to pay their high price.

You were getting very little for the money, only selling point was low shipping (as you provided wood purlins locally) and "easy" erection due to light weight.

I went with web steel in may of 07. Good expirience. Paid roughly 12,500 for a 30x40 x14,fully insulated with 1 10x10 and 1 10x12 roll up door shipped 1100 miles to my door. You just need to know what you need in the bldg. snow load ,wind load ,sky lights ect... Its exspensive to have plans reengineered. mike

I used "outback steel" 30x52x10 4.5/12 pitch clear span, incl all roofing and siding, 4- 8' garage doors. Erected it all myself with the rented scissor lift.
For right around $13,000 delivered

There was a member here a few years ago outta SoCal who built his ultimate shop with a Miracle Truss system.

It seemed he went thru a lot of extra work as he pretty much built a stick-built structure around his original building... I'm not sure why...

he documented the build here...

I have a 30X36 Miracle Steel Building I was going to put up on some property I was buying. I ended up loosing my job, selling the property, getting a divorce, being put through the ringer and now I still have the un-erected building in storage in my garage. I am interested in selling if anyone wants it. I live in Lansing, Michigan.

Krooser...I went to see the building you are referring to and it is nice. He did not build a stick building around the original building; the Miracle Truss design used only steel truss posts and roof trusses with wood girds and purlins between. The siding is then screwed to the wooden girds and the roof is attached to the wooden purlins. That is the design.

Web Steel of Sandy, OR produces a similar design as the Miracle Truss design and comes as a complete kit which includes both the wood and the steel.

HM,

My uncle has hay storage buildings from both Perka and Kentucky Steel.
He is very happy with both. He only went with KS the second time around
due to them being much closer to his place in Ohio.

If one or the other is closer, I don't think you could go wrong with either...

I will most likely go with one of the two for my place next year here in Florida.

CobraDriver, I understand the rule of thumb with steel buildings is to go with the outfit that is the closest to your location in order to keep the cost of shipping down as much as possible. Local is more better!

I have been very impressed with the people at Web Steel and those who I have spoken with are very happy with their buildings and service.

I have looked into Outback steel buildings and have been through a few and they are very nice for an all steel building.

I have to have a stucco exterior to match my house to get it approved by my HOA so I am still up in the air about what will be best for me.

If I go stick built I have to have it engineered, the steel buildings are more expensive material wise but you have no engineering. Shipping is expensive for steel buildings...Web Steel wanted $4600 to ship from OR to SoCAl.

HM,

I have no idea about Socal codes 'cause I bailed from there 15 years ago but.....

On my brothers garage we built in Ohio he had a similar situation. Even though
he was way out in the country the commisioner said if he made it match the house
he could build anything he wanted.

So we started with a pole building. After the poles were up and the top ledger
boards were bolted in place we poured the floor. When the floor was framed we added
rebar and forming to pour the slab and raise the sides 18" up between
the poles. Basically between each 6x6 was a solid concrete wall 18" high.
Then we used standard trusses 2' on center and sheathed and shingled like the house.

On the outside we used OSB with vinyl siding over that. You might be able to do this
and use mesh and stucco over the outside...
The nice thing is we framed 2' on center between the posts and then used 2'x6"
insulation and drywalled the inside. You could never tell it was a pole building
but it saved the huge expense and labor of footers.

Like I said I have no idea if you could get and engineer to sign off on
something like this...

I have looked into having a steel building with sheet steel sides stuccoed. I have seen a few and like you say, you would never know it was a steel building.

Steel buildings are not popular in SoCAl, so I think it would be better for me to stick build the garage so it is like construction to the house...would ad to property value rather than decrease it. I actually would prefer a steel building, but the cost of lumber right now is lower than steel and the prices for stick built are coming in considerably lower than for steel.

My wife is really pushing me to begin construction, but my conservative nature looking at the economy says to hold off because the money maybe more important in the future than a garage. I am retired so any construction costs have to come out of savings and once out they don't go back in at my stage of life.
