Default Red Wing Shoes - made in china!

I picked up a new pair of Red Wing work boots today, to find that they are made in china. These are not from the Worx line that has always been imported, but regular Red Wings. I paid full Red Wing price for boots that should have cost much less to make.
I am saddened by this, but not entirely surprised. Now there is no real reason to pay more for Red Wings, so I guess next time I will just go to Sears and get some chinese work boots for less.

Well, they special ordered them for me, and I have been buying Red Wings from them for years and assumed that they were still USA. I didn't check the country of origin until I got home. I considered bringing them back, but I had already worn them a bit and its not like the people told me that they were American, I just assumed it. It won't happen again.

I'm in the market for new boots too and when I found out there was a Red Wings store near me I checked it out only to find a lot of their boots are now made in China. I had heard of them from this board and had no previous knowledge of them. Comfort and USA made were their big selling points on here it seemed. I'm now looking at worx and caterpillar since they're similarly comfortable and much more affordable.

And the beat goes on! Nothin' beats moving industry to China. The price doesn't change but the manfacturer's cost does!

I had a long talk to my Red Wing Shoe store owner a couple weeks ago. Told him I wanted made in the USA boots. He said, Red Wing still makes boots in the US but theres more and more china boots coming. He also said that it pisses him off because Red Wing makes alot more money off of China boots than USA boots. He said he used to put a china flag on the display boots that were made in China to show where they were made. The Red Wing rep didnt like that and made him take it down AND told him that he couldnt put made in the USA on the display boots that were made in the US.

It wouldnt piss me off if they kept the Wrox brand the china made boots.

I ask the guy which ones are USA made and which ones are chinese
he points em out
the USA ones are always double the price
unfair free trade laws have made domestic production uncompetitive
thank you douchebags in congress

I knew the quality of the leather in the uppers had gone to shit, because they had to change the tanning process, or so I was told, I see now that "changing the tanning process", is because they now make them in China.

The only bad thing about the Worx line is that the soles are as slippery as owl shit.

I would buy the Worx boots for short term contracts, and just throw them overboard when they would finish up, but I fell on my ass once big time, and came close several other times when the deck was wet and covered with oil base mud.

I just looked at my newest pair (< 6 months old), and they are "Made in the USA, from IMPORTED components.

These have the "Super Sole", but the leather has a 'pebble grain' look, rather than the smooth, and thicker leather of the old boots.

I actually wore a hole in the back of the boot from going up and down the stairs between decks, something I had never done in the 20 plus years of wearing RedWing boots offshore.

This man has probably sold 10's of THOUSANDS of pairs of REDWING Boots over the years. He does mail order. I have bought several pairs of workboots from him over the years as he used to have a payroll deduction plan before Halliburton fked him over on selling the licensed and trademarked 'gimme' shiite.

I just picked up a set of Red Wings for wearing around and they are made in USA and don't have the pebbly grain look like some of them do. I have noticed that atleast Red Wings that are made in China are slightly cheaper than USA made ones unlike Danner who makes almost everything in China and wants even more for their chinese boots than Redwing wants for any boot.

I have 2 pairs of Danners, one China, the other USA. The USA made are way better quality and the price reflected that also. The chinese boots were still expensive, but have been ok boots. Not my go to's. I've been buying Red Wings for years, and will only buy USA made from them. I picked up a pair of their motorcycle boots in 03 that were still made here. $200. Went to replace them a few years ago and was suprised that they had dropped to $150. Tried them on and they felt substandard, I checked the tag, and guess what. Made in China. I laughed at the shopkeeper, and went on my way. The old USA's are still ticking. Their a little beat up, but still my everyday riding boots.

They went bankrupt but Knapp shoes are trying to make a comeback. I have never had a bad pair and wore them exclusively machining for about 15 years. The website says made in the USA. I don't know how many are familiar with them but they used to come around to the shops and measure you up.

Red Wings would only be acceptable, if the China girl was hot as lava.

Be prepared gentlemen. Kenosha is "downhill" of Red Wing, MN and you know how that saying goes about the direction poo travels.
