Default Where is the best place to sell my tool box?

I've got a KRL1003 Snap-on box that I've had for a few years. I don't need it as much anymore so I want to sell it. The problem is nobody want to buy a box like this for what its worth. I'm not giving it away so I was wandering if anyone had any advise as to how would be the best way to get rid of it without taking such a big loss. It sells new for about $10,000 now and I think its worth about $5,500-$6,000 at least. Am I way off or what do you think???
Thanks ~ James

I have seen several of the same exact box listed locally to me for around $2,500-$3,000 and they are still for sale. Good luck trying to get a good price for it...your going to need some.

James,

I think your expectations are pretty high given the current economy.

Right now is a great time to buy a box as there are many awsome bargains on the market. Conversly, now is a bad time to sell a box, especially if you want top dollar for it.

You might want to hang on to your box until the economy rebounds or lower your expectations to sell now.

+1 Its really hard to unload tools nowadays unless you let em go cheap, better to hold on and hope the economy picks back up this winter, good luck.

Yes, they are not going very high right now.
On Craigslist they are going cheaper than I have ever seen them. I have been buying large boxes and I am sorry to tell you, I am not paying anything like what you want.
I see ones like you are describing asking 3000-2500, but not selling.

You would possibly get more on e-bay, but need a track record of feedback before you get anything like a fair price.

I know its a bad time to sell right now and I'm not in a hurry. I just hope it gets better soon. I would sell or trade it if i got the chance. Its just hard for me to move it around when I move from Army Post to Post and I don't use it as much now that I'm in the military.

Maybe someone with a nice pontoon boat want a nice Tool Box. Hey that would work.

Thanks for the input.

Whoa, now you said the magic word TRADE.
Try putting it on the classifieds here, put it on Craigslist in the Barter section or about anywhere.

Trading is hot right now, and doesn't require money.
People still want things, but they don't have the disposable cash so trading is the way to go.

James, I have to agree with the concensous that you'll be hard pressed to get big money for your box. I buy and sell used boxes and tools and cash just isn't around. You can probably get $3000 to $3500 if you are patient and the box is in mint condition and clean inside and out. It always amazes me when folks try to sell things when they are dirty or broken, so make it look great. Ask for a little more than you are willing to take to give yourself a little wiggle room. Good luck and maybe the trade idea work out best.

I have seen some KRL1003 got for 1200-2500$ The time's get worse for people by the day. The only thing's I see selling are the deals and $5,500-$6,000 for that is not much of deal IMO.

If it were me I would go for the trade idea.

Just because a box RETAILS for 10 grand doesn't have any bearing on its WORTH. I have to agree with all the other members and say that your box is WORTH $3000 give or take $500.

There is good reason almost everyone here knows, you get screwed paying retail, and good deals abound in the used tool box market.

There is a way you could get $6,000 for your box, trade it in on a more expensive model and finance for full retail with your snappy guy, then you'll get your asking price.

That's true for the most part. If you sell it, don't plan on more than 30% of retail. If you can work out the right trade, you may do much better. And like fatfillup said, condition is very important too. Nobody is going to pay top dollar for a box in so-so condition or worse.

Put your location on your profile or at least on your ad if you place one here.
