Frank,

I used regular old pink glass on a roll from the big orange box store. R-13 for 2x4 studs, and R-19 for 2x6 studs. A lot of guys have used osb but it may not meet code due to fire resistance. I went with 5/8" sheetrock walls and ceiling.

This would be a good time to do any electrical upgrades before you cover the walls. So much easier, or you could surface mount wiring later, if you wanted.

Good luck,
Billy

You may want to mention where you're located...insulation requirements in San Diego are going to be different than in Fairbanks.

Also, make use of the search function - insulation and lighting are two of the most discussed subjects around here.

I just put up something like 37 sheets of OSB inside my shop...just the 34x40 bay to the 8" level. Two walls got 6" insulation, the wall with the bay doors and the wall facing the open bay got 1.5" styrofoam. It got caulked over the weekend, and today I have a five gallon bucket of primer sealer for a first coat.

Looking forward to building workbenches this weekend.

I just got two quotes to finish off my 24 x 22 garage (8 foot walls) with one wall already completed (fire wall). For a paint ready finish the pricing was between $950 - $1,200.

I am going to do plywood myself.

For the drywall alone, it would cost approx. $375 and take 54 sheets of drywall (5/8") I doubt if you could put plywood up for that.

I have a 24x24. Used OSB on floors and ceilings (that way I don't have to worry about hitting studs if I want to hang "stuff" on the walls), primed and painted with exterior off-white I got at a outlet for $5 a gallon. I also went with surface mount wiring in case I want to add, change or fix something later. Kept the outlets 3 feet off the floor, because garages collect stuff around the walls and I didn't want to have to move stuff to plug other stuff in. 8 flourescent fixtures for lighting. Pink insulation, 2 inch thick insulated doors. Mounted eyebolts to the rafters to hang stuff from. (had my 38 Plymouth coupe body hanging from the rafters for 6 months).

We used Smartpanel in our garage. It looks similar to T1-11, but smoother and with a better woodgrain pattern. It also comes pre-primed and in 10' high sheets should you have higher ceilings. It goes together similar to T1-11 as well as the seams are hidden.
