Re: hot rod garage in the works.38x56

I like that metal rack idea. What bolts are you using to hold that up and what are you tieing into?

the steel rack is made of 1 1/2 sq tube and is tied into the studs for the wall framing.moved the rack out side and put a awning over it to keep the weather off of it.to make room for the paint booth. have had alot of weight on the rack 4 lag bolts 3/8 per rack.

The Diamond plate looks great. Can you post some more info on the boiler? Brand, model # etc? looking for a set up like.

Re: hot rod garage in the works.38x56

I like it man. Love the lean to that gets finished and turned into a paint booth, metal working area!

That is a bad *** looking garage, What is all stored in there, looks like it could be 4 cars deep.

I am saving up for in floor heat also, I plan on using a boiler rather than a water heater as well. Water heaters only last 7-10 years and boilers, well who knows. Hey if the wife kicks you out for a bit, just go sleep on the floor out there!!

Hats off to you sir. The differences are in the details and the diamond plate around the heater pex lines and the recessed side wall lights in the paint bay so your attention to detail. Keep up the excellent work and the pictures.

Looks great , I like the work with the diamond plate, I was going to do the same thing in my office area where the concrete walls is 8" higher than the floor, then but the drywall to that.

i used a hydro shark boiler purchased it from menards a local home building center the one I used is a 10 kw. it can suport about 950 sq. ft more if you live in a warmer climate and or insulate.the power draw is huge on electric boilers the boiler takes a 40 amp breaker gas just wasn't an option. i am just heating 650 sq. ft.with room to expand the system for the future. the system is working great and I am happy as sh!t with it so far.hope this helps let me know if you need more info.

I have not been able to do anything to the belair to change it because of finishing the shop, but it all seems worth it now that I have heat and am able to just go out and work without it taking an hr to get it tolerable to work in. hope to finsh the final layer of the ceiling today then i can start moving things back in the fab area.hope to see you on power tour 2010!

You will love the in floor heat! I have it in my garage. I leave it at 61 F (I live in Minnesota) You will find that is plenty warm for any projects and will likely never turn it up above that. I work in just jeans and t-shirt and often find its still a little too warm. What I was also surprised with in floor heat is how quick it heats up the garage after opening the garage door even in single digit weather. Great looking work!

finally the install is done and one more corner of the shop is finished!going to try to keep the slab at 62f and turn it up when I need to paint somthing.still have lots to do yet going to finish the celing on the back half of the carport next then the dust collection system wish me luck I going to need it!

Re: hot rod garage in the works.38x56

progress has been a little slow since christmas, but still going foward finished the second layer of insulation last week and this weekend finished the last layer of foil back insulation and finished the last layer on the doors in the rear of the shop. The in floor heat is still working great but the furnace in the other part of the shop is shooting out 6 foot fireballs!:shocking: I think this might be bad.just replaced the furness form the 70,s with a 80's model from a friend and it did not realy pay off.shut down the furnace after finding out that I would have to shell out 300 just for parts for a 30 year old furnace I think I will save some money and buy a new furnace hope to get the lights and the ductwork up this week.

Re: hot rod garage in the works.38x56

What did the garage doors cost per door and what size are they?

the doors were 1200 per door installed they are r19 insulation value with a poyurathene core not polystyrene.they are 2" thick and they did qualify for the energy credit rebate.not cheap by any means but very nice quality. oh the sizes are 9 foot wide by 8'6" tall :)
