Default Mixers with moonshine

First before anyone goes off with it is illegal to make, possess and consume moonshine, let it be know that I purchased a bottle of it from a distiller in N.Y. that is allowed by federal law to make and bottle said spirt.

So anyway, I have a bottle of this stuff since I have always been curious to what it taste likes and the wife asked me if you can use a mixer with it sort of like a Jack and Coke kind of thing.

So can you?

I have my whiskeys that are fine for mixing and other that I drink straight out of the bottle. Is this the same as moonshine?

moonshine is whiskey that hasn't been aged in a charred oak barrel (which gives it the color and flavor). it can be enjoyed straight or mixed with about anything you choose. i normally sip it straight from the bottle but it makes a dandy bloody mary.

We drink corn or fruit moonshine straight out of the bottle. A well made peach moonshine is like drinking summer sunshine in a bottle.
Perhaps I show a bit too much enthusiasm.....

We only used to drink moonshine because it was cheap.I would use whatever was nearby for a mix.The worst ever mix was lime crush.I shudder just remembering it.

Sounds about like when mixing Thunderbird and Kool-Aid. Cheap and Kool_Aid flavored it so it was tolerable.

Why am I not suprised that Krusty jumped right into this thread...I know nothing about moonshine, other then what I learned on The Dukes of Hazzard, and I usually was watching Daisy anyway.

Wow, I didn't know you could buy moonshine legally today, which is news to me. Many years back I did have the opportunity to sip some real shine a few times. Whooo, step back after that virgin sip and catch your breath. Not knowing how refined (or unrefined) this moonshine you purchased form this distiller is, I would suggest you taste it straight first. You need to experience the real flavor before mixing it with something. But if you really want a mix, I would suggest orange (or cranberry) juice. Start with half and half and tone it to your desires.

Now I do remember some years back that Redd Foxx had a mixture of Ripple wine and cream soda and he gave that mix a name. I believe it was "Cripple". Warning, once you do decide on your mix, put some good music on and enjoy ... and to keep everyone in your area safe, hide your car keys first.

I probably shouldn't tell this, but once during my youth, a couple of friends & I pooled all,and I mean all, our money to buy a pint. We stopped by one of my friend's house & got a jar of mustard to chase it with.
