Default Found in my Garage/Basement Sump

Since we had some extra rain this weekend, I had to keep an eye on the sump drain to keep water out of the house basement. The sump is located in the garage and the pump is about 10feet down and below the basement floor. I always shine a light down there to see what's going on and how deep it is before I trip the pump. These two guys wanted out, so I waited until they were high up enough and grabbed 'em. Whos say's snakes don't climb? They climbed an electric cord to get out. I didn't have the heart to tossem out in the snow and cold this morning. I think I'll move them to my shop to catch mice....

Nice, I like the fact that you didn't have the heart to put them out in the cold.

Good that you saved their lives, but I would have pissed myself right at the get go. I'm not afraid of snakes if I see them first, but when I find them unexpectedly

No way in Hell, I can pick up the back end of a car and used to be a bouncer at a rougher bar, but I'll scream like a girl when it comes to snakes...

I think these two have been in there a while...last fall to be approximate...and I'll admit when I first reached in there and one of them wrapped itself around my hand... ...I did step back a little and say a few appropriate words!

My wife would have a sold sign stuck in the yard within 3 minutes of hearing about or seeing them in our pit.

Good on you for taking care of em

Moving them to the shop sounds good, likely they will find a cool spot and hibernate, then as you reach for something near the floor later in the spring, curl around your hand again. Wonder if they are northern water snakes?

Holy crap! I do not like snakes, I'd killed that thing immediately, serve as a warning to any other snakes that want to move in and not pay rent.

Zoeller makes a water powered backup pump that you add to your existing electric pump. However if you're on well water..... although if your primary pump failed, this would back it up.

Darn I would not know a poisonous one from a non-poisonous one. you sound very knowledgeable about snakes.
It also helps one if you can see color as I am color blind and I could not tell a rainbow snake from a deadly coral snake ! I think I will stick with tools and leave those bad boys alone.

This house is sold if I ever see a "s word" inside. Yes.. I refer to them as "s words". I don't even like to hear the word.

Killed 4 in our yard last year.

I would definitely seal up your basement. Not all snakes are friendly.

Good, I'm calling you to remove it if I ever find a snake in my house, I'll just tell you it's a rainbow snake and hope for the best.

I would have been replacing the sump pump due to the 00buckshot in it.

and hang em on a stick in the yard as a visual reminder.

me and snakes dont get along either, when i bought my house in fl, i stepped out the door one night to let the dog out, damn near stepped on a snake !! it met an untimely death at the end of a shovel, coral snakes sure are purty
couple months later, same thing, this time it wasnt poisonous, and the lil bastid got away. several years later i saw him again, he was nearly 6 ft long, and living in the bushes in the yard. never had any other snakes, mice, and even the palmetto bugs stayed away

Holy crap just looking at the pictures freaked me out. I would have had to call the wife in to take over on that one. Didnt have the heart to throw them in the snow, let them come in my house uninvited they'll learn to love the snow.
