Default Where the heck can I find a fixer upper golf cart

Hey all! Wanted a golf cart to roll around the neighbor hood in. Is there anywhere (preferably in Indiana) where I can pick up a broken down one needing fixed up. Everyone on craigslist people want $1000+ for and they are always in good shape. Where can I find a broken down piece of crap for a couple hundred bucks that I can fix up? Is there a secret place I don't know about or are these things really just that expensive?

Check out crankyape.com. I purchased a scooter from them last year and it was a very easy transaction. Nice people to deal with also. They have a place located in Northern Indiana as well as other places around the country. Their hq is in Minnesota but they will ship stuff to their other locations if needed. They do bank repo and total loss type stuff.

Even if the cart is free, the batteries will be $475 and up, depending on what brand/type you buy. Golf carts for sale cheap will need batteries. That's why they are selling them cheap. A lot of resort areas will not let you run a gas cart on their property.

I would check auctions.....it may take a few auctions but you should eventually find one you like there.

An acquaintance picked up a ratty 1974 Harley-Davidson off Craigslist for a couple hundred and put another couple hundred into it. It has a gas engine and sounds horrible and leaves a trail of stink, but it's fine for buzzing around the beach neighborhood.

Another approach is to try online forums or swap meets.

Online Forum or Swap Meet

Also, there are some huge gated community developments (thousands of acres large) built over the past 40 years ago in which golfing was a big draw. I've seen some old-timers driving their carts on the trails or to the stores. Cooper is one developer, and I'm sure there are others (maybe with the name "Del" in it.)

Hot Springs Village

Sounds like a fun project....keep us informed!

I looked for months and months for a cart like your describing , I ended up buying a $850 cart with a trailer, ( came with the deal no choice) its worked out pretty good ive been using the batteries that came with the cart now for 2 years but they are on their last legs. When I was looking I could find lots of them in the $1000 to $1200 and up catagory... I finally found mine in Lake Havasu City AZ

It does sound like a fun project but doesn't sound like a cheap one. I just wanted something to buzz around my neighborhood in and go to yard sales and stuff. I would be fine with a gas one (in fact I would prefer it if it goes faster).

If I were to buy a cart, I'd buy a gasser. They are lighter than the electrics and no need to spend hundreds on batteries. Depending on what you buy, I know a guy that does bodies for them and you could get some custom paint.
