Default How do you store you weedeater \ trimmers

Well, just picked up a Stihl FS 55 R

And wanted to see how everyone is storing them in the garage.

Also, engine up or down?

This is a summer heavy use storage not winter storage.

Thanks

I also have an FS55R. Stored with the engine up leads to leaks of fuel/oil mix on the floor, so I'm interested to see if there are any unique ideas in this thread.

I also have the FS 55R (great trimmer by the way) and always store it laying down, either on the floor or on some hooks on the wall.

csp where was it leaking at?

Floor space is a premium in my garage so i have to hand things vertically mostly.

Or i could to vertically up on the wall with two hooks possibly?? hmm

My father's is hung from its guard onto a grab rail screwed to the wall, engine down. No leaks, in fact that's how they're displayed at the dealer.

get one of those bent aluminum tubing hooks that screw into the wall and hang it up on that. if you look at the engine end, you'll see where the case is designed to hang.

if you're hanging it up and have a fuel leak, well.... you have a fuel leak. And you should fix it....

[QUOTE fact that's how they're displayed at the dealer.[/QUOTE]

But there's no fuel in them at the dealer. I always heard horizontal for storing them

Ive got a fs110 and it just stays on the cheap trimmer rack on the trailer. I say cheap because its just made of steel channel and square with some hitch pins to keep it from falling out. The balance on the trimmer causes it to roll upside down. I never have fuel leaks.

If I rememebr right, the fs55 has a curved shaft so if it was on a trimmer rack it would probably stay upright.

Just google trimmer rack and you will be amazed at how many different types there are. And Im sure one of racks for an enclosed trailer would work for you, or at least give you the blueprint for your next project.

Both trimmers are stored vertically hanging on the garage wall to maximize space, an electric Weedeater and a gas Shindawa T-18. The gas one is stored engine down. The only fuel leak was a few years ago and replacing the dried out cork gas cap gasket fixed it. It has been stored full of fuel and hasn't leaked.

You should never store your weed wacker or any type of lawn equipment with the gas in the tank. It's bad for the carb and you will have problems starting. If there is no gas in the tank you can store the equipment any way you like.

Just lie mine down on a shelf in the shed horizontally.

Only thing that I do to preserve the fuel mix is always run a true synthetic lube oil mixed in the gas and tank full.

Next season prime bulb, click open throttle normally starts on second rip of cord.

I just throw it in the woods when I'm done. Neighbor comes and grabs it when he needs to borrow it. Just a 5-6 year old $50 job so I don't care about it.

I hang my echo pole saw and weedeater horizontally on hangers I bought at tractor supply for a couple of bucks. I also second the idea of no gas in the carb. If mine are going to sit for more than a few days I drain the tank. This is what has worked for me. I used to leave fuel in them and after a few carb rebuilds I stopped.

I swadlle mine in fine micro-fibre trimmer-jammies and gently place it in a trimmer-manger. It's made of the finest natural fibresin order to keep all surfaces properly craddled......

True, but they are lubed.

I'm also under the impression that fuel should be drained.

I hang my Echo vertically w the engine up... no leaks. It starts easy during the summer & takes about 3 pulls in the spring. I always mean to drain the tank at the end of season but it somehow never happens.

I don't store any of that crap in my garage. It lives out in the shed with the rest of the lawn tools. I suppose it's just laying on the floor in there somewhere.

Perhaps you should define your idea of "store". I leave gas in mine during the lawn season. I'm not going to drain the tank or run it dry after the weekly (sometimes more than once a week) mowing/trimming.

Between mowing/trimming they still have to be stored somewhere so nobody is tripping over them, even if it is in a shed.

I don't store any of my lawn related crap in my car garage... they go out back in their own garage.. away from anything important that they could fall on & dent or scratch.

My Shindaiwa trimmer hangs horizontally from 2 rubber coated hooks screwed into the wall studs of my shed. No leaks so far. Every winter I dump the gas and run it dry, but it's always stored with about 1/2 tank during mowing season.

I use one of those hooks you screw into the ceiling joists. I hang it from the handle on the ceiling. I am 6'4" so I hang a lot of things from the ceiling.

Used the "fork" bracket for the track system I picked up at CT Boutique a couple of years ago. Works well. Before, I used to hang it from the trusses in the shop by the business end. Never had fuel spill in either orientation.
