Default how long does your factory car battery last?

I just changed oil on my wife's car today, 138k miles 2004 Toyota 4Runner, the original Panasonic battery(made in Japan) is still going strong.

the same model Panasonic battery in my 1999 4Runner lasted longer than the original starter contacts. it died after 10 years 150k miles.

I just recently, last month, changed out the factory battery in my 2003 Tundra. I believe it was put in service around March of 2003 so it last 7.5 years.

Not long enough.

My Mazdaspeed MX-5 uses a gel cell and since I don't drive it that much, I usually end up replacing the battery every couple of years. I think I got 3000 miles from my last one. It sucks because they're tough to find anywhere other than the dealer and a new one is about $130.

From what I have seen factory batteries last about 7 years and aftermarket replacements last about 4 to 5 years. If the battery is left out in the cold and runs dead before or during winter the life is shorten dramatically.

The Batteries in my F250 lasted till the end of the 09/10 winter. They were still starting the truck, but getting weak so before I got left stranded, I swapped them out. Stuck with Motorcraft Batteries - Sucks when ya gotta buy two instead of just one!!

i replaced tne original batt in my '00 sierra 4x4 after 4 years.
it wouldnt even hold a charge overnight. i put in an optima, it lasted 2 years, replaced it under warranty with another optima, that one lasted a year till it didnt hold a charge.
i put in a used battery out of a truck i scrapped out 2 years ago, and havent had a problem with it yet.
wifes '07 saturn vue battery crapped out when it was about a year old. stsrted fine one morning, drove a couple hours and shut it off and it was completely dead, wouldnt even light the dome light. jumped it off, drove another 8 hours, shut it off in the driveway, and dead as hell again.
saturn replaced it under warranty.
batteies in my f550 SD are 4 years old, and no problems yet

2 Years, 11 months, 24 days....Wifes' 07 Honda mini-van.

Seems about par for this car....lets see...just 36K miles....transmission (torque converter issue...had to be replaced). Both rear wheel bearings just last month...rollers replaced in the side doors....Front brake rotors warped at 24K miles....and gets about 13 MPG around town....

Nice car....runs well...maybe I was just expecting more from a Honda.

even my '00 sierra 4x4, lifted on 33's gets 11-12 mpg around town if i keep the skinny pedal off the floor

My 1991 Oldsmobile's battery stayed in the game 'till 2003! 2000 Toyota Tacoma battery played out in 2008.

Before long it will be the compressor clutch and the condenser... and the transmission is ALWAYS a crap shoot... sorry John

My factory Jeep battery lasted 4 1/2 years. I hear they were made by Exide so I'm not that surprised it crapped out when it did...

I've replaced factory batteries about 3 years out, average. Best battery ever - a $10 refurb Interstate bought from some potential super fund site on the Jacksboro Highway. Lasted over 6 years. One trip to Houston killed it. Damn you, Houston.

By using C-Tek's and Battery Tenders I have had batteries last longer than ten years.

As far as I know, both batteries are original in my truck. They are both are MOPAR batteries and 9 years old.

The battery in my 04 Mazda6 lasted 5 years and 150km and died with absolutely no warning. I came out of the beer store and it was completely dead and would not even take a charge. I drove home in a huge electrical storm that day and wondered if that had anything to do with it.

I'm one of the probably few who replace car batteries on a schedule, rather than waiting for symptoms to show up. For me, it's every 5 years.

I get better than that mileage around town with my '99 Lincoln Town Car.

As for batteries: The original battery in my Mustang lasted 5 years. I priced a new battery at my Ford dealer (A small shop owned by the same family since the Model T era). The price of a new Motorcraft battery was within a dollar of a top of the line DieHard, so I went with the Motorcraft which gave me five more years.

My old CJ used to eat batteries every couple of years, but since I would forget to shut off my headlamps every so often and used it for plowing that that did not surprise me. Converting to a two battery set up really helped and I got about five years out of it that way until I traded it away to my cousin.

Battery tenders are essential for long life on seasonal equipment and vehicle batteries. If you let a battery go flat you have just shaved a lot of its' longevity off. Simple maintenance will give you more service life too. Clean those terminals and make sure the water (acid) levels are good (even in batteries that are "sealed" you can pop the cap strip and check the water levels...
