I’ve got nothing for ya today… Absolutely nothing… Well, nothing other than my favorite hammer. Hammers are one of those things that you just bond with – you know? They are very tactile and by definition, simply purposeful. I just love hammers…

Anyway, the ball peen job above is my favorite. I’ve had it for probably 20 years and don’t remember where I got it or who made it. It’s marked with a “Made in the USA” stamp, but that’s it for identifying marks. And yeah, I’ve replaced the handle once. The head is still OG…

But this all got me thinking – we need a thread full of hammers and nothing but hammers. So, post your favorite.

One more... and this one isn't mine... It belongs to my buddy Keith who I share a shop space with. A mini ball peen that's been cut for ultra small clearance situations.

I got this Vlchek motorcycle hammer from my grand dad. Super handy to have around.

Here are my favorites.

I made both of them when I was in high school. The cross peen doesn't get much use but is my absolute favorite. The one with the plastic and brass heads gets used the most of all my hammers but is only used for my gunsmithing projects.

I would love to get a wilton bash someday. Right now my favorite hammer is the smaller buddy blaster. It will change though I'm sure.

How could you have just one favorite?

I have a big deep drawer full, and they are almost all my favorites. Each one in turn, when it is the best one to use for the job, is my favorite at the time.

When the one in your hand, fits the hand and the job perfectly, it is exquisite!

When I taught school I usually gave many of my graduates one of these:

I told them if they didn't loose it they will never have to buy another one.

That is really a handy size.

My favorite... found it in a field behind our house in the early 80's and after installing a new handle, it has been in my tool box ever since. Now that I think about it, this was probably the first of my own tools.

I just purchased an Estwing USA E20S leather handled 20oz. rip hammer today and it's already one of my favorites.

My 2nd favorite is my Nupla USA HD-3 3lb. hand drilling hammer. Nice short handle and love the Nupla grip.

3rd favorite is my Nupla USA Nuplaflex 2lb. rubber head fiberglass handle dead blow, same grip as drilling hammer but slightly longer handle. Seen 7+ years of daily machine shop use and is nowhere near the end of its lifespan. No pics, in work box.

Left to me from an old friend. I won't use it much as I don't do that kind of work but it was his and now it's special to me!

My favorites because they were made by my great great grandfather. They were used in construction of wagon wheels and barns he put up in the town.

Snap On dead blow ball peen in 32oz. Haven't used it in years but its a very nice hammer.

My go to hammer for the longest time has been this cross peen. I have no idea where it came from. As far as I can remember I've always had it. I looked all over it for any markings but as best I can tell it's an "Always Wear Safety Goggles!" brand hammer. Don't know the weight but it's decently heavy. It's always gotten me through whatever I've thrown it at.

Lately, I've been grabbing the new TC stubby for everything I used to grab the cross peen for. It's a really heavy hammer for how small it is, and it packs a whollop! If it had a square head and a cross back I think it'd be about the perfect hammer for coercing anything that needs to be coerced. As it stands it's just about perfect. Also I don't have to worry about the head flying off! In recent months the cross peens gotten a bit wobbly and I think before too long it will be set free from the handle and cause everyone to hit the deck.

My favorite is rarely used, its a 50 lb sledge used for pounding fence posts on the farm. The head is ~10 inches diameter and you dont swing it so much as lift and drop it. My most used OTOH is an old Plumb ball pein.

mine is much more beat up, but the perfect size, good handle.... bout due to replace the handle with a new one or learn how to wrap the neck in some fancy wire!

These are my three favourite hammers, The chrome soft face I made at school about 79/80,the ballpein can’t see any brand, I’ve had since January 27 1981,the day I started my apprenticeship, J&W welded on is for the company I was indentured to(JOHNS PERRY /JOHNS & WAYGOOD). The claw hammer is a Stanley my farther gave me in 1985 with the nail pouch.

Mine is a large brass hammer I made when I was still a tool & die maker at Parker Hannifin, I actually made the die that was used to forge that large brass tee, Its made from CA-377 forged brass, I made the handle on the lathe out of a piece of cold rolled steel and added a knurl on one end and threaded the other to go into the head, A great keep sake from my machinist days...

I have two. An old MAC hammer I found at a garage sale for 50 cents. Replaced the handle, works great. The other is a brass hammer that I found the head at the same garage sale as the MAC. Had a machinist in my group make a handle for it.
