The New & Improved Garage Journal!

Wow… that was one hell of a week. As many of you have noted, the performance of garagejournal.com hadn’t gotten to the point where at times, the site was almost impossible to use. The main problem was that we’ve seen such a traffic increase over the past year, that our servers just weren’t able to process the number of requests. During peak times, out database server would just give up the ghost.

As a result, you guys had to suffer excruciatingly long page load times and I had to figure out how to fix it. As you guys also know, we recently launched the Garage Journal Alliance. Thanks to the success of that program and to our sponsors, I had enough capital to step up the game a bit and you fellas are now calling pages from a brand spanking new server and host.

Anyway, I’m posting today for three reasons:

1. I wanted to thank you all for the support. This new hardware change was a big step for me and I couldn’t have done it without you fellas having my back. Thank you.

2. Durring the hoopla of the change-over, I lost some private messages that I just got back. They will answered shortly… sorry for the delay!

3. Also due to the hoopla of it all as well as some travel, I haven’t shipped new Alliance tags in two weeks. They will ship tomorrow. And extra special thank you to you fellas… It means the world to me to have your support.

That’s it… Back to regularly scheduled programing. Enjoy the new and improved Garage Journal!

Thanks for updating the site, and keeping it running. My shop wouldn't have turned out as great as it did if not for this site.

Thanks Ryan!!!!

but what have you done for us lately? :D

I have a friend who runs one of these. I had no idea how much work was involved, and as haugy said, GJ makes my world a better place.

Thanks a lot.

Good response now, well worth the effort on your end. But then for the content here, I don't mind waiting a little.

Thanks Ryan, I would love to be part of the alliance but it is not within my means right now. I do enjoy the site and wouldn't have the insight, knowledge, and experience to draw from anywhere else.

Ryan,

I am so new that I didn't know what the Alliance was until your post prompted me to investigate.

So, because of my appreciation for your efforts and your Boomer Sooner alliance notwithstanding, I will be joining as an Alliance member. Also thanks for moving one of my threads for me.

Yours in good football rivalry and with appreciation for this forum,

Many many thanks for all you do Ryan and am pleased that I could play a miniscule role as an alliance member and will re-up each year as long as I am able. Can't wait to finally mount my tag on my toolbox after I finish it's new home and bring it out of it's storage trailer where if has been since 95. :rocker:

Thanks Ryan, appreciate the time and effort to keep this place going, and ad free nonetheless. It is a tremendous resource.

Thanks Ryan.

If you can read this thank a teacher.

If you can read this on the GJ forum then we have to also thank those who have paid the Alliance Membership.

Still waiting to see what Aussie Companies become vendors before I join  either here or perhaps on the HAMB.

G'day from Australia Ryan. This is one of the best sites on the web. Many of the posts on here have taught me all those things that my father never got around to.

Glad to be a part of such a great forum. Really appreciate the work you do, Ryan!

Thank you Ryan!

As luck would have it, I'd been having trouble with my AT&T DSL service at the same time you were having server overload problems.

My trouble was slow bandwidth and disconnects so, because The Garage Journal is one of my favorite sites, I had a hard time troubleshooting.

For what it's worth, I got rid of the crappy speedstream modem (the second one in three years) and bought a Motorola modem at BestBuy on February 8th and it solved my bandwidth problem.

GJ is a wonderful source of information on all things garage related and not related as well. You've helped us form a wonderful community here that literally circles the globe! Thank you, Ryan, so much for all your hard work and dedication to keeping the GJ up and running and feeding some addictions we didn't even know we had.

Ryan,

Upgrade the server, increase the bandwidth, spend even more money.

Heck, wouldn't it have been easier for you to just banish Tom Payne & Jack Olsen!!!!

j/k, they are both tremendous inspirations for the rest of us to attempt to get our act together.
