Worst Tool Ever…

We feature a lot of really great tools here at The Garage Journal… and that’s exactly what I was looking to feature today. But then, I got to thinking – maybe we are neglecting the bad stuff in a bad way? So, I began looking for the worst tool ever made. I think I found it… It’s a 24″ wrench. It’s sculpted to look like a hand pinching the bolt. It strips the unstripable.

I like it. Not as a functioning tool but as a conversation piece. Sometimes you just want to own something that's different in a fun kind of way and I certainly think this one fits that bill. Who made it? Are there more available? How much and where?

Honestly, I have no idea... It popped up in a google image search and it wasn't linked to a page...

Then it's probably a one-off made by some artist who wants a jillion dollars for it. I was thinking it'd make a cool paper weight but I wouldn't pay a whole lot for it. Just looks like something "fun" to own.

Ryan: funny because i just saved that picture off a thread maybe in Free Parking a few days ago. i don't know if it's a good tool for any job, but thought it would look cool on the pegboard or wall.

i'll try to remember what thread i found it on if you can't google it and here's the pictures i saved which might be the same. or maybe the member that posted it will see this thread to give us more information.

not sure if it's the worst tool ever but it's different that is for sure.

It's the perfect novelty gift. I'd like to give one to my BIL. Think about it ... someone says "This only needs to be hand tight", so you toss him this monstrosity!

Another try - searching Paul Julius Martus takes you to his website - he's an industrial designer in Michigan. For a wonder, there's a "contact us" link, so I sent an inquiry about the wrench. We'll see ... but I noticed all the mentions of it I found were between '08 and '10. Since a plastic version hasn't shown up at Spencer Gifts by now, it's probably a one-off.

sitting here laughing as that's the first thing that popped into my head...obviously made in the far East (insert Southpark Chinpokomon episode joke here)...

but man I'd love one of those for the wall!

It's cast bronze and I'm sure it's expensive. But it's hilarious. I'll wait for the plastic one to show up at Harbor Freight.

That would be pretty cool if tool makers put a little more art in their tools - and I don't mean more pin stripes and glow in the dark skulls on tool boxes.

I have one of these minus the legs. Lol. My buddy says its an old railroad wrench but idk if that's its real name.

My thought exactly when I opened the thread.

If it's not that, it's for reading maps and calculating mileage off the key.

Maybe to assist a fisnherman to tell his tale of how big the fish was ?
