Who besides Snap On makes shallow broach deep chrome sockets with 4 indents?

I like the few SO shallow broach deep chrome sockets I have. Looking for other cost effective brands though.

I know Proto has shallow broach, but it looks like they have a single hole for ratchet detent, and I'd like a 4 sided detent.

I can't tell from photos if Wright has shallow or deep broach? Gearwrench?

I'd love to buy used on the open market, but GW prices new are real good, so...

If the proto are new stock they should have the detents. The only brand that still does the single hole on chrome sockets is cornwell the only full broached deep sockets I'm aware of is cman/armstrong and wright all others should be shallow

I believe SK does.

I have a 3/8 drive metric deep set and a 1/4 drive master set both circa 2010 which have shallow broaches and 4 indent drive ends. However, my 1/2 drive SK impact sets have full depth broaches. I suspect this is because they are forged rather than PM?

Oddly enough, I just ordered a spare 17mm 1/2 drive deep socket for my audi wheels this week, so I will let you know when it arrives.

I do believe that snap on has the shallowest broach available.

I have a set of metric Gearwrench deeps in 3/8" drive. They are broached shallow, and they have a single standard dimple detent on each of the 4 drive end side walls. The increasing broach depth progression is very linear as the sizes get larger, there are no sudden depth jumps like some socket sets have. Here are a few sample broach depths. Broach depth measurements include socket inner edge chamfer.

19mm socket- 12mm broach depth
13mm socket- 9mm broach depth
7mm socket- 7mm broach depth

Gearwrench looks good. The price is right.

Proto new is absurd pricing. Williams has deep broaches. Wright is pricey (and super nice looking). Snap On can be hunted down used for GW prices...but then OCD kicks in on non matching and beat up/abused etc.

At Home Depot I saw the new Husky ones, and they are nice looking with shallow broach, but I forgot to see if China or Taiwan....are they THE SAME as GW since both are APEX now, or ????

The Williams sets MSBD-19HRC & WSBD-13HRC are shallow broached. They are what prompted me to ask originally about the deep or shallow broaching. When I asked, the vendor told me all the USA Williams ones were shallow broached, just like SO.

I can look at the Taiwan Williams broaching in the truck set later and update for you.

Just for reference, I have Williams USA made Kobalt deep sockets in 3/8" drive, 1/2" drive, SAE and metric. They are all have dimple detents on all 4 sides of the square drive and they are shallow broached. The broaching measures about 20% deeper overall compared to the Gearwrench 3/8" drive deep sockets I gave the previous measurements for. The reason I am mentioning the Kobalt (Williams version is hard to source) is because they should still be the same socket dimensions as Williams USA. They look just like the Williams USA sockets, and they even have the Snap-On date code stampings in them.

Kobalt (Williams USA) 3/8" drive deep sockets
19mm socket- 15mm broach depth
13mm socket- 11mm broach depth

Per my earlier post, my spare SK 1/2 drive deep socket arrived from Amazon. It does in fact have 4 indents and a shallow broach. For reference, the 17mm is ~3.25 OAL w/ ~7/16 depth broach.

I have 5 or 6 new SK 1/2 drive deep sockets and they are all shallow broached with 4 indents.

Who besides Snap On makes shallow broach deep chrome sockets with 4 indents?
