Not a garage sale, but FB marketplace score for $100. Nearly new Snap On Coolant pressure tester, Lisle fan clutch kit, lang slack adjuster tool, and an IR 3/4" impact gun (I think it's a 2141 but no actual ID stickers left on it)

Darn this thread! I've had a long dry spell of good estate sales, and reviewing the latest posts got me jonesing for a good score. So, I did what I swore I'd never do again and bid on some tool-related auction lots on MaxSold.com. Sigh. I need a good cob webby basement or workshop to crawl through...other than my own!

Quoted for truth.

I was thinking about this the other day, there are, maybe, two good tool sales in an area per year. And yet I waist probably hundreds going to iffy sales that I hope against hope will pan out. Well, we shall see what tomorrow brings.

Sure, it's about the hunt. But, sometimes you want to walk up on a herd of elk, and take your pick, as opposed to tracking down a ground hog for two days.

Today I hit two estate sales that looked promising, and I really like dealing with one of the companies. But, bupkis. Worn out tools, too many lookyloos, and just a not fun experience.

That’s a heck of a beauty! You sure you don’t want to pick it up and sell one of your others?

Here is my complete Blue Point extractor set. I had to pull some pieces out of another set to complete it. The sets were sourced from Ridgid and some pieces are even marked Ridgid if you check closely.FE8C9B51-5F26-4346-B75F-C69A2ADF8DA4.jpeg

A Deco 9/32” drive spinner I used to have.
There is an AT8021 sliding tee in this toolset. Snapmom has one B205FB41-AB52-4CB5-887F-E192DCDA692D.jpeg

Thanks Don! Mine is a little different inside. Layout is different, no cast-in sizes for the bits & extractors, yours has several fat nut-like things that probably enable the extractors to be turned--which I believe is the purpose of my missing flat wrench which had different sized square openings along its length. My No. 4 drill & extractor and No. 5 extractor are marked Ridgid.
Any idea which set is older?

Secondly, thanks for the info about the AT tool kit. Any idea who made the tools for Packard / RR--or did they make them on their own?

I went back to the sale where I bought the Proto cantilever box for their 50% off day and picked up this fairly decrepit box full of pressed steel sockets, extensions, hex sockets and hex drive tools. Sadly, there were no drive tools for the pressed steel. I don't yet know who made them. Hopefully when I knock some of the grease and rust off them a logo will emerge. Total $25 plus $0.25 for a brand new half black/half white faced rubber mallet with a Walmart label.

:shocking: Out of How many? I have 26 "twisters" and none have duped. so maybe even more :shocking:
Not really all that many. I keep finding them around the house too.4ED88759-4752-461F-AB6C-6136F64DE91F.jpegBCC99002-BF9C-4011-9B20-33ED92C7CC5D.jpeg

I think my extractor kit might be earlier since it matches the WW2 Navy catalog but I don’t know for sure. The Packard/RR set tools had many different manufacturers. I even have a couple of Barcalo combos with AT correct numbers. I think Snapmom started a thread about the set she has put together.

I for one, am on the edge of my seat for the reveal!
Two, at least, seem to have S-in-a-circle stamped under the fractional size - a logo that has caused significant consternation and conversation when found under screwdriver handles, on wrenches, etc.
I think Starrett, this time.

The forged hex-drive sockets look by the stamped stars to be Indestro, possibly Bog.
The box…Union? SK?

Why not? I have Uhhh, seven but two are going to be sold! Honest!
A little off topic, but when someone says I/they/anyone has "too many" of some kind of tool, I remember an old fellow that I knew that had a separate hand drill for every size of bit, so he didn't waste time changing bits. He had a whole bench covered in drills and a line of receptacles to plug many in at the same time. I don't recall how many drill presses he had, though, but it was more than just a couple.

I don't need two DP in my small 2 car garage.....

Honestly, I can see justification for 3 drill presses--one for woodworking, one for drilling small holes in metal, and a slow speed press for large holes in metal. And if you are making things like small model engines, maybe a small sensitive drill press for tiny holes in metal. Oh, and a big old blacksmith's post drill for having fun drill big holes in metal.

Yep, Wood always seems to need higher speeds, and metal mostly lower, esp for the larger drills, hole saws.

I have a tiny DP (actually the first one I ever bought) for tiny drills and very high speeds (1000 - 10,000 RPM, variable) It wasn't planned to be my first, it just came up at a price I could justify at the time (very young and living pay check to pay check back them...

Biddings is at $59.76 with 3 more days to go....
So what would be a reasonable figure for this DP?

Asking for a friend :devilish:

That thing looks to be in really good shape. If some delta collectors get wind of it, I could see it going for $400 ? But I'm no expert... post it on this thread and the more well educated guys can chime in.

Miserable weather (very cold for around here, and rain likely), so only 2 sales, this first was advertising tools and the second I should have skipped. My feet got cold and they are still thawing out!

But for $15 I'm not unhappy:

Stan NB Proto Pen Will bill Utica CM Enders Jp.jpg

Snips are Stanley Aluminum framed with steel inserts, (My second pair, and I have a pair of bigger Malco Andy's)
Kitchen/Fishing Scissors marked Japan, but seem nice, they also open 90 and pull apart so nice for cleaning them
Ignition pliers are marked New Britain, but I suspect are Channellock made as they are true arc joint
Slip joints are Utica, Dykes, are Channel lock and have the early handle knurl pattern
DOEs are Proto LA Pebble and Williams, south of that are Pennons Combo also Pebble?
Upland Forge DOE tappet, and a Billings.

the dark green/Wood "Driver" isin't! Its a light chisel, and has the geometric Craftsman (no underline) on it - I'm guessing 30's/40's?
The Enders is also marked for a local Hardeware store. I have these Enders in a smaller size and several in this and the larger size.
A chunk of brass stock (almost looks like it was cut off a chisel end?)
And lastly a folding can/bottle opener, -destined for camping

Only as much as you are happy to pay. I set limits and stick to them - I refuse to get into "Bidding wars".
Yes! This x2. I do the same thing. I dont play the ebay price game unless it's a really good deal or something uncommon. 99% of my plomb/proto/craftsman has come from swap meets/garage sales/estate sales and it's usually from the discount bins. You can find tools on a budget but you have to konw where to look and how to save money. And if you find something in budget, you have to hop on it. You can't hem and haw or it will be gone.

Made it to a sale today, couldn't get there at opening as I was working on the genarator/backfeed/electric . We were hit with an "ice storm" Wednesday nite/Thursday morning and the power restoration efforts are now looking at Monday, house was 52 degrees this morning. Fixed it up now. Got a partial set of Plomb 1/2" dr sockets,Craftsman sockets including a 10mm and crossbar for 1/2" breaker, odd socket out is a PowrKraft 5/8''

Good eye, LS! A quick (and small) random sample just now showed more Mossberg M-Diamond but there are definitely several Starrett S-Circles. Two of the larger sockets I checked are unmarked. I haven't seen any stars on the hex drive sockets but of the half-dozen I've cleaned so far most have a single dot after the fractional size--just like my score a few weeks ago, albeit with a smaller knerl.
The box is as yet unknown. The only thing I've noted so far is the heavy grunge layer and the reinforcing feet on the bottom corners which are smaller than similar sized Kennedy boxes.

Picked this up this morning for $10. Never made fresh butter before, so I figured why not.

Got it -Yep, the same; maybe a slight diff at the bell of the outlet, but that could be just the operator of the lathe, or the grind of the tool bit.

I forgot to mention the can opener, I think one or more have been posted before.

This one is "Vaughan USA Patd." and "Quad Fold" -Not clear to me what makes it "Quad"

Made by Vaughan Novelties, it and its owner seem to have some interesting history!

I'm going to soak the business ends in Evaporust and put it into camping:

I've been too busy buying, fixing and selling chainsaws recently to do any estate sales. But today I attended a sherriff's sale and found something I've been wanting for a long time. A lot of bidders but none of them wanted it as much as I did. Picked it up for $90. Damn this thing is heavy. I didn't realize it is mostly cast iron.

Not a garage sale, but a consignment auction. Got the MiniMax 6 chainsaw and case for $5.
Got it home, added gas and a new spark plug, had it running in short order.
