No, they are 1/2. I have a socket box for these, so I was pretty stoked in any case.

4stroke, the spinner handle and L-bar aren't marked. But, I am comfortable calling them Indestro, as I don't know of another set like this. Of course, I could be proven wrong.

Today, I mad three stops, well, four if you count going back to where the BB gun was with zero luck. In any case, here are my finds:
52771388754_c1fb7f3e78_c.jpg
The first stop yielded the Proto 5449 and CS Osborn leather punch for a whole $1, and at the second stop I found the Amateur Radio guide and drill stops. But the last stop was the best. I found the Dunlap box (with no tray), Cornwell hex key set, most of a Snap-on metric key set, a 12 gauge wad punch, and, best of all, a P&C metric socket set, almost complete! I have never seen one of these, and could not believe that it was still there on the second day, at half off no less!

I am kinda irritated about the box though. I originally bought it for the leather handle, as I need one for a Walden box I am restoring. But when I was taking every thing to my truck, I noticed the rather nice Dunlap logo inside, and now I am conflicted. I need another carry box like I need a hole in my head, but the logo is so nice. But it has no tray, so now I need to dig one up...
An almost identical Dunlap box to that one found at the Tahoe flea in 2016 got me started collecting Dunlap.👍95BB4F1F-3AFB-4E3F-BED9-9FE3EF6CE11A.jpeg4FBF4468-39FF-49D3-ABD5-C4DB89DE465D.jpeg

Here is my meager haul for the weekend, picked up by remote. The wife sent a pic from an estate sale she was at, very tool lean. She grabbed this set of wrenches for me. Unfortunately, the price sticker pulled off some paint. Bummer

Indestro Bracket 0930-5W and 5 Select Steel Wrenches 5/16 - 3/4".
The holder is design patent D174919, granted June 7, 1955. Not in DATAMP. These look to be a Set no 0930-5W, "same as above except heads unpolished". 5 piece open end wrench set, containing P720, P723, P725B, P27, and P729.

Found them in the 1959 catalog, you can carry them, or wall mount the bracket to hang the wrenches individually, instead of ganged together.

I thought I had another set of these, but don't see them posted in the Indestro thread, guess I gotta go digging for them before I post these there.

The paint tends to fall off of mine as well.

Ugghhh…the Dark Side of collecting: when “for parts” morphs into a new “project.”

Not too much this month either.

Top left, Two old Hazet spanners,
Tiny little claw hammer head, bsa spanner, a 'thing' which I was excited about as I thought was the little wrench for removing the jet from stoves, it's the right shape, but twice the size of the two jets I have, so not sure what it's for. Staley tape, large curved needle that is stamped made in England, but no company name, pad saw handle, no makers name either. The little packet item in the middle I had no idea what it was for, but it turned out to be a Duncan pipe cleaning tool. Might not get use out of that!

Nice drive in the country this morning to little town called Macungie for a garage sale. Tools were junk, but did manage to pick up a box of old license plates and a USA Craftsman folding knife. I recently bought an old Mustang that came equipped with the latest in sound systems the AM/FM/Cassette radio so I picked up my first cassette in 50 years. Not particularly a C&W music fan, but why not check it out.

Pronounced muh-KUN-gee, for those reading along who did not grow up nearby! :)

Including a wartime plate! Wow. Nice snag.

Hmm. Maybe there's a market for the three crates of them I have up the attic that I did not know about! :)

Interesting. Maybe they're more common on that side of the pond, but I have never seen that forged in marking before.

Nice find. 1940's.
They are not that common here either, I will be looking into those two a little more. Top two in the pic are today's picks, both sides, bottom two are ones I had and are the style I would be familiar with. Name recessed and the series, both of those are west Germany, so not too recent. No county of origin on today's, but foreign is stamped on them. Know the British ensured this was stamped on imported tools up till 60s? Not sure, will read up on it a little more.

The BSA has the piled arms logo, faint on this, but I think it's a really cool logo, and a broad arrow, but unusually no year.

MrsLS lured me to the Circle Drive In Theatre Flea in Dickson City PA today. It’s a bit of a drive, but Jake’s won’t open until next weekend. New to me, but I did spot at least one vendor familiar to my usual circuit. Seems pretty decent, and I suppose the $1 entry fee helps with upkeep.

20 items, averaging $1ea, I think. Most of the wrenches are Plomb, Germantown Tool Works rip hammer, Plumb and Evansville ballpeins, Lufkin rules, Craftsman embedded-diamonds waterpump, misc screwdrivers, unmarked bodywork dolly, 1/4dr empty SK box, accidental Vlchek slipjoints (I just happened to have them in my hand when I asked “how much?” on a double fist-full).

So I'm ticked at myself -yesterday as ES1 I had in my hands a tiny wood box with a sliding lid, with a few tiny (NOS?) drills loose in it. I must have either dropped it there or set it down and forgot to pick it up, but its gone... :withstupi:badteeth::rant:

FB MP War Effort find today. Andover, Ranger, Eclipse large aircraft Auxiliary Power Generator (APU). It was used in the aircraft to keep batterys at peak performance.

From the internet,
“The air cooled APU (PUTT-PUTT) was used to: provide electrical power during ground operations, in emergencies, and to supplement the engine driven generators during takeoffs and landings.”

When this apu became surplus someone made a 28 volt 175 amp DC welding machine using it. It's a V2 cylinder producing 10hp I'm lucky most all the original military parts are on it. It has compression but no spark yet.
Short walkaround vid.

Today was a rare Sunday only Estate Sale. Drove up a little after opening, and two guys having a very animated discussion in the street. Walked in, and a patron leaving commented that those two practically got into a fight at opening time, and neither bought anything. Ok, promising start....

The pics for this one didn't show any tools, but MLW was excited about the garden pots. After she got a sold sign on her goods, I went inside to look for the promised tools. Guy was a gun guy, and had 5 big gun safes, which one guy bought, so a few people were ogling them, blocking access to the garage.

Finally made it inside, and in a tiny one car garage was one little bench, with some gun cleaning supplies, and a few meh tools, homeowner maintenance stuff. All the other cabinets and stuff were full of home cleaning and household goods, so I returned to the small bench, and started poking harder. Under the open lid of the toolbox full of picture hangers and drywall anchors on the floor, I found an obviously Craftsman toolbox, with a few Craftsman, SK and Plumb tools. Also found 2 Craftsman (stubbies) and one unknown oil cans, a US made Vise Grip, and Collectors long term oil, buried under the cleaning cloth packages. Another small box on the floor had a long 1/8" drill bit, medium Gerber knife, forge hook, and a vintage Lufkin tape. Gerber steak knife and light clamp rounded things out. MLW added some garden tools and a roll of Blue towels. $7 all in for this.

Looks fairly heavy, goes against everything I thought I knew (from watching TV) about airplanes.

Most of the weight was the generator, which was made mostly of steel and copper. They used the same generator that was driven by the large radial engines that powered the airplane. 200 amps at 24 Volts (nominal), with actual voltage with fully-charged batteries 27.5 to 28 Volts.

Large airplanes use a surprising amount of electrical power. The B-17 used electric motors to run the landing gear, fuel boost pumps and many other systems, including electrically-heated underwear for the gunners!

The generators were often repurposed into DC stick welders after WWII. These Auxiliary Power Units (APU) were self-contained, and that made it easier. Since there were multiple generators on bombers, there were loads of aircraft generators sold as surplus, and some vendors made kits to adapt them to commercial gas engines.

Not a garage sale (eBay purchase), and not recent (2 years ago, actually), but when the package arrived, I put it away (without even opening it) and haven't touched it since.

Was cleaning the garage today, and this was like opening a little Christmas gift!

Two full sets (SAE and metric) of Four Star split die thread chasers, $75 for both. The cases look like garbage on the outside, but the insides, and most importantly, all of the tools, are immaculate!

This is the type of tool that you'll rarely use, but when you need it, it's a lifesaver.

I'd bought ONE (individual chaser) back in 2015, after I buggered up the threads on a front spindle of my RV doing a brake job. The spindles were NLA from Ford, and I couldn't find any at a local junkyard, so I gave the chaser a shot (after a regular die failed due to the damage being at the tip of the spindle). Saved me from having to remove the spindle, which would have been a major PITA.

The way these work, you spread it open, put it on clean threads (past the damaged ones), put a deep socket over it, and back it all the way off the threaded item (spindle, bolt, stud, etc.).

Made in USA!

Found a forlorn ole Proto bottom roller at the Flea Market this past weekend.

It looked really bad
Since the drawer retainer clips were gone, the drawers over extended...they were pulled out too far and fell on the drawer underneath it.
All of the drawers were jammed shut.
They were all overloaded, stuffed, I mean STUFFED with Chinese wrenches and other junk pinning them closed.

The drawers were crooked....making this ole boy a sorry sight. And very hard to empty.
But....
It cleaned up and looks good now
Also found an empty Thorsen box

The 1960 JHW catalog lists a set B4 that appears to have the same contents as mine.
Good catch! I don't know what I was thinking earlier, directing you toward the 1/4" set. Williams used the "B" for Bantam (3/8" set) and the "M" for Midget 1/4" set. However, your original thought that the set comes from the 50s is, I believe, misplaced. Not only does your set appear in exceptional condition for that time period, the color and graphics are wrong for that period. Your referenced '60 catalog shows the period design with the interior decal using the backward leaning font and diagonal "swoosh" line. I don't know when the designed changed to your set, but probably NLT the early 70s. Another thing to check is the hinge handle. According to AA, "By the early 1970s Williams had discontinued the 3/8-drive end broaching for the B-40, and the model number was updated to B-40A to indicate the change. The cross-bar hole was retained though, so that the B-40A flex handle now had the same specifications as the earlier B-42 model of 1936."

Small Restore haul today. Folger Adam makes prison locks, definitely a tamper proof screwdriver!

Suggest Bar Keepers Friend for cleaning up the All-Clad skillets. Been using that stuff since buying our All-Clad cookware and they all still look like new - great stuff. I buy at our local Walmart.

Cheers,
Tim

Yep, that's my first choice. The only problem I see is there is black and brown crust in the crevices. Should be an adventure wiping that out!

this is one of my favorite skillets. never looked quite the same after that backpacking trip, but it's still working just fine.

A country estate sale today. A Stevens-Walden socket set box and speeder. No other SW tools to be found. Unlike Don, who is able to reach back into his hoard and complete the most scantily populated sets, my stock of SW orphans is minuscule. Looking through archive.org I see similarities to the S-421 set box in the ’48 catalog, but I think mine is much later. The speeder is only marked with “STW” and no model number.

The J.H. Williams Vulcan No. 302 clamp appears in the June 1937 catalog for $4—which is what I paid for it.

I’ve always been partial to saws. This is a 16” Henry Disston & Sons No. 7 Panel Saw from 1896-1917. It’s in pretty good shape with no chips on the horns, a visible etch and even the little decorative nib is intact. The only real issue is a hairline crack on the carved tongue.

Etches are notoriously difficult to photograph. You’ll have to take my word for it that it looks a lot better in person.

^ That Stevens Walden box is fabulous - built like a tank, yes? The etchings on the older Disstons are difficult to make out in the catalogs, too. ;)

^^^ The outside of the box is pretty sturdy. It had some deformations that I was able to adjust. The socket divider, on the other hand is practically fashioned out of butter. It was a mess but was easily put straight.

The best place to go for Disston saws is the Disstonian Institute.
Here is their picture of my etch:

I have a set of Magnalite pots and pans in my old tent trailer setup. Awesome cookware. Most had wood handles mot;y gone/burnt away, but I had enough of one left to use as a pattern and make more out of oak.
