Thanks. It’s complicated. But this is a disc/drum master, as was the one I removed.

The system is a bodge up of parts. Front discs are 70 Chevelle. Rear drums are 78 Malibu. There is a GM brass proportioning valve, mounted on the frame out of sight.

When I got the car, the brakes kinda worked, but with a very low pedal and not very well. No documentation as to what came from where, so I’ve been replacing parts and improving things. Also documenting, so now I know what came from where. Both calipers, both cylinders, all hard and rubber lines, pads, shoes, drums are new. Discs have been turned.

Last year, I took the master and booster off. I can’t identify what came off, but I never could get it to bleed with a hard pedal. I found the pushrod between booster and master was some kind of adjustable thing that had been hacked up to make it fit. In doing so, it flexed all over the place. From pedal (unknown junkyard sourced GM pedal assembly) to booster, there was a tab welded on the pedal arm and some single shear eye bolt looking thing used.

I removed the tab, and tossed the master and booster.

I installed a 66 Impala booster, without the mounting brackets that deal with the angled firewall in the original car. My firewall is vertical. I hooked this with the proper adjustable clevis to the hole in the pedal arm where it belongs. I then put a 70 Chevelle disc/drum master (1 1/8” bore) on and bled it to a hard pedal.

This worked, too well. I have (had) very little pedal travel, like less than 1” from none to all the way hard.

The new master is a 67 Chevelle, disc/drum, 1” bore. I‘m hoping to gain a little bit more pedal travel for better braking feel and reasonable control. I should get slightly longer stroke, and higher line pressure with less pedal effort.
@DGersic, as I suspected, you know what you're doing. I do everything in my power to make things difficult for myself. I bought some Cal Custom finned aluminum valve covers for the big block in the '72 Corvette. They were scruffy looking but for $10 I figured I could polish them up. Took more time and effort than I expected (alternator clearance for one) but they looked good. Tried to install the one on the driver side but it wouldn't clear the brake booster. Rather than obtain a chrome set of '70 valve covers, my solution was to replace the vacuum booster with a hydroboost setup.

No pictures, but cleaned and organized. Spent roughly 18 hours in the garage over the last couple weeks. I have one cabinet unit that needs gone through and things culled…otherwise it’s a go for the year. At least until the fall….then I’m overhauling the boring beige paint and white trim. Going a little more spicy with a light gray wall, darker gray trim, and a belt line with a splash of color. Next project from there is attacking the peeling paint on the floor that the last owner put down. It’s on its last leg.

Took a nice long ”test drive” today. Brakes are much improved.

The original setup was “kinda like steppin’ on a plumb”. The upgraded setup was more like steppin’ on a rock. Now there is reasonable pedal travel, and better braking feel.

I didn’t do any panic stops to test, but some decemt hard stops seemed solid.

More lengthy test drives are clearly needed.

Dug out speaker wire, Cat 5 wire, speaker wire connectors, and a leftover piece of oak for a shelf.

I also made a hardware store list for the rest I need for setting up the living room for a planned move of the flat screen TV and its antique side board stand that holds it and the supporting electronics, from the FR to the LR. I need to pull wires into the walls and across the ceiling in the attic.

The shelf? For the center speaker.

Cleaned my mower deck, changed the belt, and greased it up. Got to try out my new CTA extra deep sockets, and my new Icon semi deep sockets (Koken Zeal long handle flex and proto 12" breaker) and couldn't be happier with them. (Unless they had actual, usable knurling.)

Finally hanging my belt/hose hangers.
Had Goodyear logos and were held to concrete wall with hand forged square nails. OLD...
I don't use Goodyear so I made them suit my preferred brand.

Did come from an Old VW repair shop and were loaded up with radiator hoses I may find use for someday on my, or other cars I play with. Bought at auction for $8 with hoses. Had the paint and Stickers were under $2ea

First things first, I pulled the impala out and parked it behind the garage. I took it for a spin and she is still stalling. Of course. I haven’t diagnosed anything yet haha IMG_1376.jpeg

Then decided to tackle a project a couple years in the making. When I was in California, I picked up an axe head. It’s been riding in the Cummins truck since, under the rear seat. Forgotten.IMG_1371.jpeg

While I was at rural king, they finally had axe handles in stock. So I spent a few minutes shaping the end to fit the axe head. Got that done and now have another axe to add to the collection, seein as how I’ll be a wood splitting fool here soon IMG_1372.jpeg

I do have a couple others though IMG_1373.jpeg

Looks like I need to do something about this one next IMG_1374.jpeg

The other day ago, I noticed the tire on the wheel barrow was in bad condition. IMG_1340.jpeg

I initially wanted to get just an inner tube. But none in stock unfortunately. So I just grabbed a whole wheel IMG_1368.jpeg

Then, to top it off, I decided to finally set up the weight bench. And pulled the ninja in for a tune up. I took her for a spin, but she’s not happy. Probably a valve adjustment haha IMG_1375.jpeg

Maybe tomorrow I’ll get to the bike. Next weekend I’ll get a bar and plates for the bench, and maybe another horse stall mat.

It’s going to be a great spring/summer 😁

I noticed the brass house numbers on my daughter's home were looking grungy...
Took them down, cleaned them up, removed the tarnish and then applied 3 coats of UV clear spray paint in the garage...
Hand applied random non directional swirl pattern... (I used the orbital sander with a red Scotch-Brite pad... )
I even polished the screws and cleared them as well...
She's out of town participating at a horse show... So I wanted to give her a little surprise when she returned...

Jumped into the rabbit hole of restoring stainless on the 74 Chevy truck. I now have a high degree of respect for those that do this for a living. 150grit to remove deep scratches, progress in 100/ 200 increments to 2000 wet dry. Then over to the buffer. Start w/ black, work down to ruby and green followed by rubbing compound and ultra cutting cream.
A lot of time invested. Haven’t been able to achieve the mirror finish of chrome, but a huge difference.image.jpgimage.jpg

Got more parts and tools for the Sound cable, cat 5 runs in the LT got 3 of 4 holes cut for boxes, the 4 I hit a misplaced stud, so I need another 4 plex box for the existing Ethernet/Phone box to allow speaker wire & connectors there.

My son dropped by to change oil, top off air, and inadvertently changed his ****** fluid as well. (Oops).

Received a message from renters saying they’ve heard water running since the day before which would have been Tuesday. I was at work at the time and could not expect to get there for probably 4 hours.

So I called John the guy next door to the rental, he had moved in last summer, and we’ve been helping each other out since. I ask if he could check under the house for me and see if the crawl space was flooded and he not only did that but crawled in there 20’ and shut off the line going to my shop that is on the flag lot behind the rental. So the crawl space was dry but the line to the shop was broken somewhere.

Then John came over when I arrived there later and we started digging around looking for the leak. Dang mole tunnels spread that leak out to make the hunt a real challenge. Finally found it yesterday and patched it up today. There’s been a lot of rain and the ground looks to have settled some putting tension on the PVC coupler which snapped in half.

And then started refilling all the holes and trenches we dug the previous three days. Here’s to good neighbors. 👍🍻

I've recently started "cheating" on doing maint on the mower. 1000 times easier doing blade sharpening/belts etc.... this way. Wasn't sure it would fit, but "just" makes it. I use long 4x6 blocks to drive across (and "ramps" I cut from other 4x6's @ an angle, to drive up).

Used oxalic acid to bleach out the water stains on an oiled walnut speaker cabinet. This was my first time using oxalic acid and the results could not have been better.
Photos show the stained, bleached, and re-oiled / waxed versions.

These two statements do not belong together: You need to replace the PVC with a material rated for water supply line, - - PVC is for sprinklers, not constant pressure. its too brittle (as you now know)
Didn't know, I could see it. Should work now.
Original pic still not working; the following post worked.

Question to all: ATF stain on leather, what might draw that out (daughters light tan boot, post "Helping" her brother yesterday... Pushed a wood block with her foot, instead of picking it up.)

Yesterday helped a friend work on his 2006 Infinity G35. He put a clutch in it. So we started putting everything back together. The reason he called me was because he thought he stripped one of the oil pan bolts to where it would need to be helicoiled but turns out it was just dirty threads so once I cleaned the threads the bolts threaded right in. We worked on the car, drank some ice cold beer and then he showed me his whole house and everything and bought us some food so it was a fun night. I can confirm I like the hard Mtn Dew drinks haha. And of course I love my Coors Light and i would not touch the other brand he had with lime but I’m not going to say anything regarding that. The Coors Light is my favorite beer besides Yuengling. That’s the most drunk I’ve ever been it was a blast lol. We also egged a tree because he had expired eggs.
