Picked up a new US General toolbox to mostly store consumables and small tools. I wanted to get the current Gen2 before they came out with the deeper drawers on the new Gen3.

I have been able to move quite a lot into it, but getting things organized will take some time. One drawer partially done.

Are those red casters replacements? Would you mind sharing the part you used?

Boomer to the rescue. No not me, even though I certainly qualify for that gen293A890E-D6B5-4856-AF3F-3D5E16172352.jpeg3A725F41-83A5-49F2-B69B-8E9A18CD7D55.jpegD8C29417-81ED-40D7-914A-E3EBE3A0BBDD.jpegF34E0A41-8C3A-4556-B305-599AB7096214.jpegeration.
Talking about hood spring removal.
I’ve always raised the hood, fill the spring gaps w/ washers, lower hood and the spring pretty much falls off.
Not this time. 74 chevy truck has a pretty heavy spring. Washers didn't work.
Used a boomer. Attached one end to the spring other end to a hook threaded into the radiator support ground screw holes. Works very slick!
Time to clean and paint the hood springs. Done this before. If you have a shop hydraulic press simply replace its return springs with your hood springs. Opens em up for cleaning and painting. Just checked springs I did 8 years ago. No paint issues do to spring flex. No visits to the dentist either!

Connected a charger to my small generator battery bank.
Moved the DD to the alley and am waiting on the Auto Club to put my spare tire on. I used to do this myself but today I am playing the Old Man card.

You rinse the tank with water, for maybe 15 minutes. Then you warm the tank, especially the seams, while running air through it. Then you rinse it again. Then give it a dose of argon. Then you weld. No pop, no bang, no whoosh, no dead.

I know they say you can weld on a full tank, but one slip, and it'll let your squeak out.
We used to run water through them for quite some time before welding them.
I seem to recall they'd toss in some soap now and again.
But, that was 40+ years ago.

I de rusted and "thoroughly cleaned" a Jerry can before soldering some lines into it (making a "second tank" for my Samurai. it still did a few POOFS" (the first one scared the bejeezuz out of me... )

Those seams in Jerry cans simply hold too much saturated fuel to get it all out. I've also soldered Coleman type fuel tanks and where possible I fill them mostly with water adn minimze the avaialble space and "heat sink, the bulk of the steel - works great.

Finally some nice weather. Been a dreary few days lately.

Built this quicky bed insert / patch to work around the rust holes and soft spots. $10 in OSB.

IMG_2408.jpeg

Then went and picked up some mulch from the city “free” pile.

IMG_2409.jpeg

Then spent a good chunk of a beautiful sunny afternoon dealing with family stuff. I did eventually get the mulch spread on the front garden.

IMG_2412.jpeg

Every time I pull out the wheelbarrow, the tyre is flat. Pulled the wheel off, removed the tube, and inflated it in water. No bubbles found. So I put it back in and inflated it. If it isn’t holding tomorrow, I’ll replace the tube anyway. I’ve never had the bucket of water fail to find a hole, though, so that’s weird.

Time for an airless wheelbarrow tire. I put them on the garden cart, wheelbarrow, and gas PW. So nice to not have to drag the dead thing across the yard to get air in tires.

Slime is your friend:

You can see many leaks/wet spots with slime bubbling out.
Sometimes I thin it with auto antifreeze but that's not always necessary.
Those are tubless tires on a trailer dolly.

I used a pair of Double locking casters from Woodcraft that I had left from my scrap cart caster upgrade. I believe they are pretty much the same as these sold by Home Depot. They are my default caster. I did need to add a 3/16” spacer plate between the caster and the toolbox to give enough clearance for the locking mechanism. It doesn’t look like you need one, but they flex just enough under load to need that space.

Last night my 5 year old and I cleaned up the Sun Tune Engine analyzer I bought a few months back. I thought the control panel was rusted and wouldn't clean up very well. I was surprised that all it took was a squirt of some soapy water, a few of the big q-tips from HF and a few minutes. Can't wait to try it out on my Triumph!

I connected the scan tool and discovered the check engine light was on because the mechanic forgot to reconnect the sensor after completing another un-related repair. I told my wife that we're going to have to find a new service provider because at the rates that we're paying this guy there shouldn't be any mistakes!

I let the car smoke the garage up... My new carb which was supposed to be preset with the right out of box settings had the idle mixture screws WAYYYY too far out.

Tuesday and yesterday I got the speaker wire tabs tinned, then taught my youngest a bit about soldering to get the wires onto the tabs, and wired up the main TV wall speaker wire posts, (4 pairs, #5 is next to the TV so a direct run), then got stuck on the opposite wall as I thought we had a dead wire. After dinner I went back and discovered I'd crossed two pairs (the "off" pair was the center) and once that was corrected, its all good, one for the left front left to complete. That one is "rework" so while the wire is in the wall, the box needs to be replaced with a 4X4 box, and I need to replace the Cat 5 network plug there,

Today I'm recharging the Van battery so I can go pickup a new 65" TV (the old 55" Toshiba, over 12 years old) finally croaked.

Mostly family stuff again today. But I did manage to drop a 1000 pack of brads, so got to play pickup with those. That was fun.

Investigated a rattle here.

IMG_2413.jpeg

Drill works fine, but has a rattle when shaking it. It didn’t used to do that. It’s in the gearbox, not the motor. Not sure what I’ll do about it yet.

The wheelbarrow tyre is still on my bench vice. Holding air fine. Should probably just replace it, I guess.

For jobs like that I reach for a magnet on a stick, the floor has gotten too far away for many things.

Took a tire to the shop I bought it from because it had picked up a nail. The shop refused to fix the tire because they had tried to sell my son tires for this same car and they said it has weather checks.

I told them that I will take the tire to a shop on Main Street in Chula Vista that will fix it. I generally can bypass many peoples concerns by dealing in Spanish with folks who are not so restricted by unwritten policies.

Yep. I gave up on tubed tires on my hand truck. EVERY time I needed it I'd have to air them up. A couple of solid wheels from HF and it's been good to go since.
