You must have different deer than we have around here. I've never hit a deer with the middle of the front of the truck. It's always been the corners of the vehicle and took out headlights.
The damn deer stepped right out in front of me & I had no time to stop. Bent the front bumper, cracked the plastic filler panel above the bumper & tore off the license plate bracket.

As mentioned in another thread, my mulching deck broke. Again. IMG_1437.jpeg

So I grabbed the other deck from the pole barn. Also broken. IMG_1433.jpeg

Decided to clean it up IMG_1435.jpeg

Got it wire wheeled, and flap disked. Got the broken supports cut off. Then ran out of time. Still have to do more cleaning, and prepping, but I’m hoping to get this deck welded together by the end of the week, along with a decent paint job. THEN, I can fix my other deck. OoftaIMG_1438.jpeg

Made this double planter to fill an awkward space in the patio:

20230508_204257.jpg

Black plastic planter inserts from Lowe's, cedar fence pickets from HD, and underneath is a bit of reclaimed treated lumber. My wife has already bought the flowers.

EDIT: I feel I should defend my choice of assembly techniques here, because the question will be, "Dwasifar, how long do you expect finish nails to hold that thing together outdoors?" The answer to that is, it's not just nails, it's a lot of Titebond 3 too. And then the follow-up will be, "Dwasifar, surely you don't think you can glue to a rough cedar surface like that." And the answer to that is, I planed the inner faces smooth before assembly.

Had the (electric) pressure washer cranked up to blast off the tractor and mower yesterday. I had just dropped 5 gallons of diesel in the Grasshopper and the empty can was within range. I've had these cans for 40+ years and the funk that has built was was pretty extreme. Bad enough that gloves were needed when handling.
I shot some Blechwhite on the can and let it sit for a few and then hit it with the sprayer. WOW !

I went to the barn and got out the rest of the vintage plastic can and followed suit. Some of these gas cans have been used since the 70's and showed it. Love the old cans with NO government intervention.

Ahhh, the simple joys of being retired.

You can still get new spouts and parts for these cans. I have 12 and use 5 for the mowers. The others are ready for our Florida Storms.

Finished a little project I posted about back on page #1302 - needed a holder that would hold all my T-handle wrenches flat in my tool box without taking up tons of room.

Originally I was using a Capri magnetic holder on a block of wood for the needed height. Then found an older one my pops gave me years ago and I’ve just been carting around. I like this one because it’s wider

IMG_1444.jpeg

IMG_1442.jpeg

The block I mounted it to is just a piece of 3/4” ply I had around. Gave it a quick sanding with 80 and then 150 grit before staining it. I new the stain wouldn’t be a perfect match to the magnetic bar, and since it’s not a show piece I’m fine with it.

Mounted and loaded up!

I did some cleaning and sorting, the boy who is living with my part time helper did not have a tool box, i am finding some usable duplicates to add to the collection we will be giving him. So far he seems to appreciate the tools he has been given.

He has had no positive male role model, his welfare mother has several children all by different Gang Bangers. He seems to want to break the welfare and poverty cycle, while staying out of jail and away from drugs.

That's probably the most important thing any of us has built in our garages. Good on you.

Had to clear a pathway in the garage for my father in law to bring in a 'new' to us top loading washing machine. Ours works but the cold knob is weird so it does not really work unless you fenagle it so we dont bother. We're in Phoenix so I dont think there is such thing as cold water anyways :D

Both front window regulator/motors on the 2001 Suburban because the one I received was for the passenger side not the drivers side. 2005 Camry new valve cover gasket w/ spark plug gasket. PCV valve was stuck.

Not a whole lot of pics, as I needed to get done before nightfall. I was supposed to be at this stage last night for today assembly. But, well…

Gonna preface this with “I am not a welder”, as well as “I’m in a bunch of pain, and just wanted DONE!”

Put my cheap POS Hobart to workIMG_1454.jpeg

Got the patch panels cut and welded in. Yes. Popcorn welds. I’m not a welder haha IMG_1447.jpegIMG_1448.jpegIMG_1449.jpeg

Grinder and paint, make you the welder you ain’t…IMG_1451.jpegIMG_1452.jpegIMG_1453.jpeg

Not going for show quality. Just usability. Top looks even worse. I guarantee it. But paint was still tacky, so I couldn’t flip it.

This should suffice to keep the grass from sticking much, and rotting it out more.

“Just one more season”…

And seein as how this is my “spare/extra” deck, I now have some practice for when it’s time to fix my actual “good” deck.

For flux core you do DCEN, and up the wire feed. I know it made a difference for me.

I finally got my shed wiring completed. This included a (probably illegal) switch loop back to the garage to turn the compressor on and off (the compressor is in the shed).

As I mentioned in another thread, I have been chipping away at this job for years. My garage is stuffed, and it was a ***** pulling the wire from the breaker box, up the wall, across the attic, then back down the opposite wall, through the conduit, and into the shed. I had to move equipment, shelves, open the walls where there were mysteriously-installed horizontal studs, etc. But finally, the shed has it's own breaker and outlets, and I can flip the compressor on and off with a switch in the garage. No more plugging in a long-*** extension cord when I want the compressor on, lol.

I have been motivated to finish all of these half-completed projects by the death of my father-in-law. I have been working non-stop at his house fixing all his half-finished stuff, shaking my fist and wondering how he could have all of these half-finished projects and not be driven nuts by them. Then I got to thinking, "how am I able to magically find time to do all of HIS projects, and I never have time to do MINE?". Well, now that his house is finished and ready to list, I am using the time I had allotted to his projects to work on mine. Hopefully this momentum will last.

Sometimes it's easy to make fun of somebody else's half-assedness while completely ignoring your own. I gotta hurry and finish my projects so I can get back to making fun of others with a clean conscience, lol!

Finished the mower deck.

I have two sets of hi-lift blades for this deck. To keep it in service, I pull the dull ones off, put the sharpened ones on, then sharpen the dull ones, paint them for storage, and keep them on hand. IMG_1456.jpeg

So the sharpened ones went on IMG_1457.jpeg

The mandrels were new a couple seasons ago and were still in good condition. The centers of the pulleys were stripped, though they still fit kinda snug. I didn’t want to take a chance, so I bought 2 pulleys and a new belt IMG_1460.jpeg

Put the deck on, and it sits ok. I didn’t pull any measurements when I welded the brackets back on. Just kinda eyeballed it. IMG_1461.jpeg

But she cuts flat, and I was able to mow most of my yard.

I did start scraping the “good” deck. My mulching deck. I like this deck because there are 4 wheels that let it roll across the grass. IMHO, it produces a much more level/clean cut. IMG_1467.jpeg

Got it mostly cleaned. It’ll be less dusty when I wire wheel it. And luckily it’s just the one bracket that broke off. I’ll repair it the same way as the other deck (cut rusty metal back until clean metal is found). IMG_1468.jpeg

That’s about it. I reached my pain tolerance for the day and had to give up. Rain tomorrow, supposedly. So not much else, besides clean the messes I made while repairing the deck.

Whaaat? I’m not the only one? When our boys were all under six, I’d get home after a 12 hour day to find the only toilet we had was plugged once more. With the most likely culprit being a toy of some as yet unknown type. George Jetson took the deep dive once, also other brave explorers of the depths below. Brave action men of the deep we salute you!

started my brake conversion and running into issue after issue but have one more brake line to install and then bleed.
most of the issues had to do with powder coating. they got powder into the mounting threads and the pin holes. worst was the pads where the brake pads sit. took about 1 hour each caliper and a lot of cussing to finally scrape all that **** off.
Gen 2 CTS-V calipers going on a mkiv supra.
