Had a pretty good day today.
I had been watching a local online auction with a bunch of vises. The Reeds and 4" and larger Wilton Bullets went for big money, I managed to snag these two 3" swivels for less than $50 each.
Next I went to a garage that I had picked before. Sweet elderly widow occasionally calls me to come dig through her late husband's things. When I go, I end up doing some household chores for her, have a cup of coffee, and just talk to her for a while. Her husband and I shared a lot of the same interests, and I think it makes her happy to sell his stuff to a guy who likes old Ford and old tools. She almost always tries to give things to me, but I make sure and pay her fairly. She has no children, and no other family in this town. I check on her often.
Today, I trimmed a tree, and put new batteries in her security camera. We talked about her time as a school secretary in the 50s, and I went to digging.

I have been in this garage several times, and never noticed this cabinet until today. Its in beautiful shape, with the exception of the fact that George apparently lacked Post-It notes, so he wrote numbers and names all over this cabinet. Common sense tells me to clean it up, but I think I will hang it in the shop exactly how it is.
Absolutely sucky!
Between the Wiltons and that Champion cabinet, the rest is noise, LOL...
Although, doesn't this violate the self-sucking rule?

Picked up this Matco MB-1440 last weekend to replace a Waterloo WI-5013R. Drive was 3.5 hours away. Convinced a good friend to get up at 4AM on a Saturday to make the trip with me. We headed out around 5 AM and made it back by 3 PM that same afternoon.

So yesterday morning I got a phone call from one of the estate sale pickers I know, there was a huge sale going on that I didn't know about. I have been trying to cut down on my buying but it's not working LOL. Anyways I went and picked for around 3 hours. Stuff crammed everywhere, mix of USA stuff and lots of Harbor Freight. Only large items were priced, rest was make a pile and get a price. So I made a big pile, expecting $100 or more. $60! I was so happy I decided to look around some more. Did another pile for $50.

I'm a little surprised it got as far as needing to check it on Wiki, but maybe my dry sarcasm meter needs recalibrating. I thought the leg pulling would start to show with the comment about "no after after party" and the first trophy "falling apart in shipping," and be self-evident by the time you got to the *****-slapping line!
Also, while I now love the nickname, I don't think anyone has ever called the award a "Picky"!

I hate / love sales like that, going very cautiously on the first pass, then hog wild the second, hoping to grab stuff you thought you would like that may still be there.

Finally made it to a sale. This year has sucked for me; I have been so busy that I haven't had time to go yard-sale'ing the whole summer. Well today I hit 8 sales. And only one sale had anything worth a damn.
I got this pile of USA wrenches for $10
Mostly Craftsman and SK, couple Thorsen + Husky USA. Only one import (the flare wrench at the top). I haven't cleaned them up yet, this is how I found them. The ones on their side are "Wizard" brand? Never heard of them, but they are stamped USA at least.
I needed some more variety in my offset wrenches, so that's a cool find for me.

The OD green box with parts and baggies with smaller parts is Air Force. The marking is a Technical Order. The "65" is the date. They used that style wooden reinforced box with partitions for a long time! I have found two. Both from WW2. Both ground crew chief kit's. One with an amazing stencil and backstory. See here...

Lugz, you failed to account for both the membership's need to view the page in its natural habitat and most of the membership's limited eyesight. (I myself carry a powerful penlight and a lighted magnifier when out picking)
Very elaborate and well laid out. Now that you've done all that work, you might as well tone the sarcasm down (a bit) and actually submit it to Wikipedia! We'd all love to see it there and it might bring in some interesting new members.

Well, the physical trophies are. I'm not at all sure that it's that cut and dry about any of the content. This post I am writing right now, any post, or any thread. But what I meant was, GJ is his business. Literally. One of his livelihoods. He owns the site. It's not my place to make a Wiki page for one thread when there's not even a Wiki page for the site itself. Granted, it's one of the most well-known and popular threads, I have always been a major purveyor of it, and I started the whole Picker of the Year thing, but it's a big site, and it's not my place to do something like that. As I said, it was just a lark. Anyway, have you seen how much is involved in Wiki content creation?

The "Not Perfect Handle" Screwdriver (through tang and wood scales but not tapered) is a PEXTO.
The bag of coping saws is Disston, but made after the sale to H.K. Porter (1955) and before Zip Codes (1963).
I ve been feeling well off pace this year and a little archives searching proved my hunch right. Lugz 2021_28 occured on May 1. Lugz 2022_28 occured on May 26.

I don't think it's big enough. I don't think it's a stud puller, either. I think it's something esoteric to a specialty I am not familiar with.

Took me a long time to get rid of the hyperplural of you (you's) (i.e., one ewe, two ewes)(pronounced yooz) and a lot of my friends who stayed local never did. In that city and the surrounding area on the other side of the state we ignore, they say "you'ns", (pronounced yunz), which comes from pluralizing you as "you ones".

What does a wheel knocker do? I’m used to tire knockers (thumpers) for checking dually tires for pressure.

You screw it onto the threads on the end of a tapered axle (like pre-1949 Fords) and hit it with a hammer. The impact is supposed to knock the hub/drum loose from the taper from the inertia. I say "supposed to" because it doesn't work very well. Witness the mushroomed heads of most wheel knockers!
The most effective way to remove the tapered hub is a well-designed puller. The field method is to back off the nut on the end of the axle a couple of revolutions and drive the vehicle around for a while, usually making hard turns to add sideload to the hub.

Not a ton, but managed some things for $9:
Deep Fryer, and a Tea Tin - the Tin had tatting thread and stuff that SWMBO wanted, I kept the tin and some safety pins, and a tiny Crochet hook (can come in handy for fine work out side threads...)
Old Contact Cleaner (I think the precursor to Caig Deox-It) - can has a 1998 date on it) 3 in 1 oil old fishing Reel, Silver Bearing Solder, adn a Rafter Square.
Biplane art -they look cooler than the pics. and a pair of leather straps probably from old camera's - taken off and rolled up and stored. a bit dry, but I will oil them up adn use them...)
