I went to a sale about a month ago, I got home and got busy and never sorted out and took photos. Finally got it done. Since I have started naming my estate sale escapades I'll call this one the Cycle Stash since the guy was an avid motorcyclist. The biggest items were the Craftsman rolling workbench for $80, the $75 Rockwell Jawhorse with extension for 4' wide sheets, 5 hardware drawers with some hardware for $30 and a True Temper heavy duty wheelbarrow for $20 since I noticed the plastic tub was cracked. One of the yellow/black tubs was $10 and had the Coleman lanterns and softball stuff and the other was empty for $3.

I only got out to 2 sales this weekend. We had been on vacation all week so it was a weekend of catch up on chores and other things... like fixing my 4 year old samsung refrigerator...sigh. This is why I like the good old stuff. It doesn't break like the new items. I have 4 samsung appliances and 3 out of the 4 have had multiple issues. I don't recommend that brand to anyone, however I digress.

Sale 1- my wife was on fb marketplace looking at local sales and tells me "hey, look at what they are selling". She shows me a picture of a vintage 40's dodge tailgate that I would recognize anywhere. I pulled this off a truck in the junkyard about 10 years ago and I clear coated it to stop further decay. I had this hanging up in my garage forever and I have a picture with my son next to it when he is really small. It was something that when we moved I felt overwhelmed by the amount of items and chaos and I sold it. I kinda regretted it ever since then. Anyway she messaged the seller (same person I had sold it to) and we hightailed it over there. Appartentley the seller said they had turned down $300 to keep their word that they would sell it back to me for what we sold it to them for $50...I'm really happy to get this one back. It's crusty and cant be used again for a tailgate but for a wall hanger, it has the look!

On saturday I went to a local venue and attended the "steam up" swap meet and living history display. The grounds are an amazing culmination of museum's and other working vintage steam engines, saw mills, black smith shop, etc. Once a year they have this local even where people can gather and show off vintage tractors, caterpillar machines, etc. I arrived at 9am (due to working on my refrigerator) and commenced picking. I picked up some really cool stuff! Some of the sockets/tools are rough but heck, for $1 or $2 a piece, I'm not saying no to the plomb :).

-Right off the bat I found this super cool snap on cantilever box. I paid $15 for it. inside has some rust pitting but it's still useable and maybe a snap on enthusiast will restore it. I need to do more research on it.

-also picked up this really cool sun distributor machine base for $40. its in good shape but not great but I couldn't say no. Inside was a business card from a local chrysler/plymouth dealer nearby. I don't know how old the card is but I would guess 40's/50's ? I'm a chrysler guy and the town on it is local so I'm stoked.

- picked 2 nice p&c 1/4 drive sets (already going to a local enthusiast) for $35

-early ford v8 car hub cap for $5

-really nice thorsen 1/4 drive box and partial set. I'm not a thorsen guy but for this price and this nice of shape, I'm in at $5

-various modern craftsman sockets to fill some holes in the blow molded sets I picked up recently to move along

-various plomb sockets of the 1/2 drive variety

-snap on ferret 3/8 speeder

-bunch of proto la/mfd era tools to fill holes in my collection or keep for spares

-2 craftsman metric socket sets in plastic trays. While I don't collect this era, some guys do and the usa made stuff isn't coming back so I jumped on it at $28.

photos continued...

Also , my wife and son came and met me around noon time to check out some of the museums on the grounds. We also hit a few of the swap vendors but it was getting hot and both of them are heat sensitive so we bailed. Both of them want to come back next week and check out the second weekend of this 2 weekend event and see more of the swap meet. Who am I to argue :)

Found an extended shaft vintage Delta/Rockwell grinder/buffer with the Kalmazoo 48" belt sander. $85. I would have paid that just for the cast iron pedestal. Those pedestals are scarce and spendy.

Echo PB-770H leaf blower $75. (runs great)

Here are pix of my two hauls, one Friday, one Saturday. Friday was just a mile down the street, a routine vendor, picked up some goodies in the past. The two Peachtree cam clamps will go into my Woodworking jig spares pile, for some future need. The file card will be checked against my spare, one will move away. The stamped Crescent spud wrench is rusted stuck, will toss it in Evaporust shortly. Original plan was to use the knurl on a different 15", but a spud is too different to set aside.

PXL_20230730_172721798-X2.jpg

Saturday was about 7 planned stops, only one delivered tools. Seller was a jack of all trades, welding, brazing, WW and other tools. The screw arm plow are was at a decent price, the file handles were cheap. The box was an OK find, til I saw the label, then had to grab it. Asked how much he'd used the plow, never, but put a lot of miles on it trying to sell it. 😒. Joh. Weiss Sohn Wien (Vienna) imprint. Rare to find these with undamaged threads, so stoked. I have a bunch of irons for this type of plane, will see what fit.

Have been busy the last couple weeks so not much opportunity to hit sales. I did pick up this Plomb box from a CL listing, apparently the PO worked for Boeing and his departure must not have been a happy one as he defaced the Boeing stickers on the lid. Fortunately the Plomb sticker is in great shape which is the main reason why I picked this up. I'm thinking the removable tray is not original as it looks quite homemade...

I did make it to one sale near the house before I went out of town for the weekend and while the garage was full of tools, not much of it was in my wheelhouse. Grabbed this black oxide Stevens 1/4" partial set which had a few random Craftsman bits. I added the Proto hinge and Blackhawk rat which I'm pretty sure is offshore as there are no USA marks on it. $5 for the Stevens stuff and $3 for the big P&C 2740.

IMG_4901.jpg
** I'm glad you grabbed that box since it's closer to you than me. It's in decent shape for its age**

I was at an ES this AM and was getting ready to ask the price on a floor standing Craftsman 150 Drill press with the second pully for speed reduction. The DP was in a shed in the back yard and was "an over the river and through the woods" type of extraction. That was weighing on my mind when I got a call about a family medical situation and went to handle that.

The DP was in good shape but the extraction to the driveway was daunting. Someone had pulled a Grizzly table saw out of the shed so it's definitely possible - maybe just not by me.

Jim
** The 150 DP's can be broken down into smaller more manageable pieces to carry but if they are rusty and stuck, they can provide a real workout to say the least :) **
I had six stops lined up, heading north in the valley.

53079483972_4798f06505_h.jpg
The first advertised as a tool sale, and it was. The tools of a former HVAC tech being sold by his daughter and SIL. Not much there of interest to me, but I picked up a folding Z rule, two Snap-on V sockets, and a Park headset Wrench for a couple bucks. At the second stop, not much of interest, except for this vintage machinist chest.
53080033371_8c70716820_h.jpg
I have no idea who made it, but with cast handles like this, there was no way I was passing it up:
53080239144_ef939021e4_h.jpg
It is still in the back of the truck, but when I figure out where I am going to put it until I clean it up, I will get more pics and measurements. Not sure who made it, as I cannot find any S J and Co listing for machinist chests on the "guide".

The third stop was the estate of a guy whose hobby was horology, or clock making. I picked up the Mitutoyo fish, Armstrong threading tool, MT2 adaptor and this:
53080451125_9137167c54_h.jpg
an UNImat milling attachment and head affixed to a 1" steel plate, so as to be mostly permanent. I was able to talk them down a bit, but I am pretty chuffed at finding this!

The last three stops, one of which was what caused me to head in the direction that I did, where all busts. Funny, how that is.
** I don't know much about machinist type tooling but I feel you probably **** after getting that unimat**

There was only one sale on Craigslist that mentioned tools and it was close so we checked it out first. Top to bottom,
IR die grinder,
Plombpire rusty extension,
Craftsman dykes, stubby Phillips and slotted screwdrivers,
two Channellock 420s,
TruFit DBE,
Vlchek DOE and DBE wrenches,
possible Klein screwdrivers and a Buck Bros screwdriver

Found some irrigation items at the next garage saleIMG_9818.jpeg
We stopped by our favorite hardware store in town only to find out it was going out of business. I grabbed the whole bin that I buy replacement screws from for 1/4” drive ratchets and a couple of cans of bug killers.IMG_9817.jpeg
I cleaned up some of the tools.
The die grinder works like newIMG_9822.jpeg.IMG_9824.jpegIMG_9825.jpegIMG_9826.jpeg

Holey Crud you guys are killing ot! (dead hear, nothing today...)

Too many to mention, but these stood out to me:

DB5 toe dolly

Have not seen that style very cool!
41653 Hinge handle, square drive in handle, 9/16 hole, large head
41653 Hinge handle, square drive in handle, 9/16 hole, small head
41653 Hinge handle, unmarked, square drive in handle, 9/16 hole, small head

Three breakers with the square drive handle? One is uncommon enough, but THREE???

I had this hanging up in my garage forever and I have a picture with my son next to it when he is really small. It was something that when we moved I felt overwhelmed by the amount of items and chaos and I sold it. I kinda regretted it ever since then.

Awesome you got that Back Smoke!

Colemans stove $2,

Is that a 400? Those are great singles and 6500 BTU if so, (one of their most powerful singles)

Thanks ! I'm glad I have that old tailgate back. Now, if I can just find some of those old mopars I sold for the same price as back then, I will be doing just fine :)

Found a cool 30 cal M1 ammo can

That is my favorite type ammo can, and I've switched to those for hunting/going to the range, whats not to like? You lift the latch and you can open or close almost silently. the "newer" latches open and close with bang. I modded one for a lock loop. but msotly don't use it, unless its too near me in the rig (separation of guns and ammo transport laws...)

Store close out ($25). Better Pack 555L water activated packing tape machine w/ heater. Got to love the buttons.
We used his older brother in the late 70s to seal up ice cream boxes, none of this fancy colored buttons, they were all grayish back then, with the length under them. It was probably old before I got there.

The back up had some manual lever to dispense.

I've been enjoying seeing all the goodies everyone has been finding over the last few months of lurking here. Figured I would share a bit of my finds... these are mostly from local ReStores, various thrift shops, and garage sales. This covers most of what I have picked up minus a few pieces that have been sold off. Most of these were $1, though a few were a bit more, and a few were a bit less.

Tools-1.jpg

1st column:
Sanp-On short 17mm
Old Blue Point 1/2 with raised lettering
Blue Point Supreme with 1941 date code
Par-X 7/16
Armstrong 13/16 service wrench
Williams 5/8 Engineer wrench
Craftsman double box
Craftsman double box
Mac 5/16 long pattern
Unmarked (but sure looks like a Par-X) Drum break tool

2nd column
Old unplated Cornwell 3/4
Cornwell 9/16
Cornwell DOE
Cornwell Angle 9/16
5x Proto Professional SAE Wrenches
Plomb DOE
Snap on 1/4 bit driver

Been having fun hunting and finding deals, but not really much of a collector, so will likely move a lot of it on, though will keep the snap ons (what I'm typically looking for), and the Protos that I'm working on putting a set of together.

Best regards,
Matt

I may have sent him a few tools for a GMTK that he is working on plus one of these. They are replica decontaminators that I made using similar WW2 fire extinguishers. IMG_4635.jpegIMG_8190.jpeg

Thanks. Yah, its hard to sell vintage chisels, especially the heavy (framing) chisels: The really early Buck Bros 1-3/4" gouge; the Stanley Everlasting 1" Cabinet chisel; and the Greenlee 1" gouge are all super nice. Just shipped the Herring Bros. 11/16" Prize Medal gouge. :(

No home runs but spent $7($6.50 but I didn't get change) today.
PXL_20230803_192357116.jpg
Snap On F747(seized)
Meteor ignition pliers(didn't have a pair of slip joints this small)
Matco 15mm wrench
Mac 3/8 extension
Oiler can
32(?)oz ball peen
Odd pliers
10lb sledge
1-1/2"x8" screw jack(handle broken off but otherwise intact on first inspection although there's a fairly thick coat of dust/mud on the exterior)

Don't think anything is particularly rare but it's few extra things for my office/stuff to resale if it's not needed.

I really like my estate sale find for today! Fleet Alloy Tools by Penens Tool Corporation wall tool board for $25! None of the tools are Fleet but most of the wrenches are Penens. I'll have to check out my Fleet and Penens stashes to see what I can find for this board! I'm thinking about keeping this and mounting in my kitchen for quick household repairs without going out to the shop.

Here's the rest of my estate sales finds for today for $28 more. Bridgeport Boy Scout hatchet, Penens pipe wrench that I'll put on my Fleet / Penens board, Craftsman pliers, distributor wrench and Dunlap ignition pliers and Sears Hilary propane camp light. Plus the 4th of July shirt!
