Here is my first dark finish Walden 3128 41-B-302 Extension ¼” Drive 3”. These are definitely rare. It was a surprise gift in a recent care package from a colleague in TN. IMG_9842.jpegIMG_9841.jpeg

First find out of a $25 Toolbox & Contents auction lots more to unearth. These were my favorite thing given the smallest 1/4” x 5/16”

Next Walden installment. Model 4075 Impact Driver in it's original case. I'm used to typically seeing cheap variations of this type tool, ie: K-Mart, etc.

This Walden partial chrome 1/4” drive set arrived yesterday. I’ve never seen one like it with a blue box but it shows no sign that it’s ever been repainted. I should have the rest of the tools to complete itIMG_0006.jpegIMG_0008.jpegIMG_0009.jpegIMG_0007.jpeg.

I have a couple of those SW surplus boxes. I think they would look good in that shade of blue vs the red. Will feel better about it now.

I was very tempted by one on eBay recently, it may have been the same one.IMG_5018.jpeg

I passed because I already had a similar wartime looking one. The part numbers seem to be different though. IMG_3664.jpeg
Here it is next to a Williams example that may look familiar to you.😉

I was digging through some recent bulk acquisitions, and sort it out this Walden 1/4 Drive sockets in a 1/4 drive set box. I’m curious if these unmarked extensions fit with the set, invite extended reason, is it possible that there was a plug style ratchet that was contemporary to the Sockets and this box?

Walden had a habit of using double male ended extensions with double female adapters, particularly in 3/8” drive. The adapters look kind of like the double female adapters on some distributor wrenches. I have no idea what their thinking was. I can’t think of any other manufacturers that did the same thing. If your extensions are 1/4” drive, the 8 point 1/4” socket would probably drive them.

Noted with thanks Don. I have seen those somewhere else in the “death pile” as my GF calls it.

ONLY thing I've seen that was even close was a Soviet-era Russian set that kinda-sorta was using the same idea.

Walden Worcester 5.16 hex drive SAE socket set 091123 01.jpg
Walden Worcester 14-piece 5/16" hex drive SAE socket set

This rather unusual set, as near as I am able to determine, is similar to the model 68 set shown in the 1932 Walden catalog on page 10, with the exception of this set being 5/16" hex drive (about which the catalog description makes no mention) and the sockets are 12-points in the set (as opposed to the "hex sockets" shown in the catalog description, from which one might assume they were talking about 6-points.)

There are no markings on the sockets, six of which are 12-points and two of which are square 4-points.
The screwdriver attachments are stamped "Walden Worcester Made in USA" and are also stamped with part numbers 3803 and 3804, respectively. The "Spin-Tite" driver handle is stamped "Walden Worcester 3801" and still has 99% of its original black paint on the handle. None of the other pieces show any markings.
Based on the description from the 1932 catalog, I would posit the set is complete, although I believe it to be of earlier vintage than 1932.
I have no empirical evidence of such other than visual comparisons with other like sets. (see OTG's set on GJ in the Walden thread.)

Interesting that the handle was used in other sets. It’s impressive that your set is so complete. IMG_4412.jpegIMG_5553.jpeg
This partial cad plated set arrived today. It was inexpensive and I bought it mostly for the crossbar. IMG_0258.jpegIMG_0257.jpegIMG_0259.jpeg

^ looks like there are plenty of sockets. of course the black 6-inch extension is missing - they're always missing! (ask Don!)

maybe I should round up my Walden stuff and get it listed... I pulled out three or four (?) sets a couple weeks ago, but realized when I opened the boxes that the missing pieces were scattered all over somewhere in the garage so I have to hold off until I can get them sorted out.

<edit> and Don is correct: that ain't no Walden box there.... looks more New Britain-ish (to me, anyway.)

was this purchased by a member here?
(I found another Walden 1/4" set in here in the back bedroom a couple days ago - another mish-mash of stuff.)

^ Ooo... that's interesting... I do not believe I have seen that "SW" logo before! Same content list. same California Trimmer on the left. Same oatboard motor on the right.
Too bad about the masking tape schutz on the label on that set of mine - c'est la vie, eh?
I know there's at least three more of these out there - one of them is still in the original cardboard box!

I'm not sure if I added that breaker or I bought it that way... !

If it hasn't been talked about before, I will add that you just have to appreciate the subtle, sophisticated humor of graphic artists in the unlikeliest of places in that era. Nobody in the Stevens-Walden front office asked for that posture and look of leisurely impatience on the missus as her husband attempts to get it running again.

Not discussed, per se, but most certainly given many moments of consideration. My observations of the sort of thing you are talking about cause me to believe it's every bit as ridiculous in the current era as it ever was.
One of my personal favorites is the Sunbeam lawnmower ad which shows mom merrily mowing away in her freshly-ironed pleated skirt and penny loafers.
You can't make this stuff up!

Stevens Walden PM21 21-pc 1.4 & 3.8 dr SAE socket set (Ebay 142687368055 03).jpg

What makes your comment so timely is that I just received an ad brochure in the mail the other day from ACE Hardware, which shows Mom and Dad and Sis out in the back yard having a party cleaning up the leaves.
Because... you know... yard work is so much fun!

You have to wonder what sort of universe advertising illustrators and photographers live in.
