Not new but resurrected. I bought this Snap-on KRM-274 at an estate sale last year and while it was solid the paint was done for. I had started stripping the paint myself but lost motivation. I ended up finding a local powder coater that I could take it too and just picked it up today. I still need to decide what I want to do about emblems, this one has a spot at the top and the bottom for one which is odd and then I need to find a new handle since the one I have is pretty beat up.

Picked this up today. I like to have a toolbox at every large machine or group of similar machines. I try to pack them out with a decent tool set so that I don’t have to wander all over the place looking for tools when needed.

Found in the purgatory known as Facebook marketplace.

For this machine, the lathe and the super surfacer.

I wanted the advanced color model, but half of what I use them for is outside. I read the color models were not great for outdoors. Hard to see in sunlight

I look forward to using this. I hope I do not regret this buy. A snap-on Basic DMM

I have the advanced one. The screen size is worth the price of admission honestly. I like the Bluetooth feature on mine so I can use the big screen on the mm and then also use an iPad. Not sure if that one does that or not. Either way it’ll be an awesome meter.

Big screen on the mm and an iPad??? Why would you need / want to combine those devices? (Not criticizing, looking to learn here...)

Multimeter leads hooked to tail light, you can hold the iPad and sit in the car and hit the brake pedal and test it yourself without stringing up 20 feet of test leads or flagging down an assistant is one example.

Or testing continuity on a long stretch of wiring harness. Can have the iPad on one end of the vehicle and the meter on the other and your long test leads set up. Can see it at either end when you switch pins without switching pins, walking to the other end of the vehicle. Then switching pins and walking around the vehicle again to see the reading.

Totally not worth it unless you do a **** ton of electrical diag. But if you do, I’d recommend it.

I've used it to try and detect a random power dropout, hooked multimeter up under bonnet, connected my iPhone on the Bluetooth, set it to graph and put the phone in a holder so I could see what the graph looked like as I road tested the car. Handy for trailer lights too.

You read correctly, my advanced one is hard to read in direct sun. I ususally swap onto using my iPhone at that point. It's great indoors and in footwells thou.

My other complaint is that it doesn't reset the auto power off when you are using it for measuring, my fluke only powers off if it's open circuit, the snap on powers off if the control dial hasn't been moved for a few minutes. Oh, and for $600 it should be usb-c rechargeable.

Earlier this morning i managed to twist the 1/4 square on the USAG 3/8 to 1/4 adapter,it was time to visit the local auto parts store and get hazet or gedore. Too bad they had no Gedore so i bought the Hazet. $16 so price was about the same as Gedore, but knurling on Gedore is MILES ahead of Hazet's knurling.

I wish that our auto parts stores in the USA had Gedore and Hazet on the shelf! We mostly get Chinese products of varying quality.

Its a chain of auto parts stores, like NAPA in the states. Some things they have in store and some dont, but they do stock sockets, wrenches and most basic items from gedore and hazet. If you need something that they dont have in stock, they will get it for you and the next morning you can pick it up in the store.

Here is the hazet along with prices

There is another chain of stores who stocks the toptul as well. Gedore and Unior are usually found in old mom and pop hardware stores.

Pretty cool, seems like both Germany and Japan have awesome hardware stores.
Pretty much the entire Europe is well packed with good or at least "decent" hardware stores. Here in Croatia we have Bauhaus,id say they are the leading hardware store chain. They dont carry any of the euro's big three (hazet, gedore and stahlwille),but they have a BIG Knipex and Wera section. Also there is a brand called Matador that they carry, once it was a great brand but unfortunately they moved pretty much all of their production to china and taiwan. My local Bauhaus store had a bunch of the old german made Matador. Funny thing is that people were always buying the china made pieces just because china wrenches had smooth finish and german made ones were textured. I mean an average Joe had no clue that the "better" looking wrenches are made in china. You can still find these made in germany leftovers on the back of the rack, and price is the same as new china made Marador.

Here is the old German made Matador,i doubt you can find a brand new german made 36mm and 23 inch long wrench for $20... (i mean you could at flea market or garage sale...). Bauhaus find, and it was the last one on the rack among the china made 36 mm.

Am I the only one, wouldn't you think a wrench called a Matador would be made in Spain? ;)

Came across a couple Snap-On ratchets on marketplace for a good deal. The timing was right as I've been shopping for a long handled 3/8 flex head and a mid length 1/4 flex head.
image001.jpg

I have a strong preference for the quick release versions but these were a good price and I have the matching "extra long" 1/4" version with the same red hard handle (except quick release).

Boot for the Milwaukee high torque I got recently.

Also snagged a GW spark plug socket set:

That's some pretty cool stuff right there!

My "wrench extenders" are a variety of iron pipes (various diameters and lengths, depending on the application, LOL)...

Stopped by the wholesale house today, something I rarely do. Low n behold they had Klein’s counter to the Milwaukee pack out system. I checked it out and will give the whole system a thought. But I grabbed this bag that goes along with it.

You ole school sparkles will understand but I ran with a canvas lineman’s bag for decades as it had good dedicated pockets for everything. Last year my last canvas bag died so I picked up the synthetic version. F I hate that bag. So we’ll see how this one handles my needs.

Hmmm...., in Germany most common hardware stores for end consumers have also rather cheap and scary tools. Some have also somehow better, some only terrible ****. Nothing for professionals or passionate hobby mechanics. Otherwise you have to go to specialist stores or know what you want yourself...

However, in Germany there are special VAT-free professional stores for registered businessmen - in which private consumers cannot shop. Then there are typically some other tools - and lifetime costs are more important than purchase price ;)

Some manufacturers also have different product lines for this separation - e.g. "Bosch" green (consumer) or blue (professional) etc. or founded sub-companies as e.g. HAZET and VIGOR etc. or simply rebranded tools... The price pressure is immense - and even a small amount produced abroad quickly damages the reputation.

regards,

Got some tools from DRPD Labor day sale.

KTC Profit wrench 15/17/19 to complete the set (already own 8 to 14).

Koken 1/4 and 3/8 flexible extension.

Koken 16mm Zeal spark plug socket.

IMG_0547.jpeg

Really like the slim profile with the angle of Profit wrench.

Koken knurling is beautiful.

Those flexible extensions are very interesting. I didn't see those browsing DRPD.
I don't understand the love for lots of Koken stuff, but those flex extensions are by far the best out there. They are SOLID, can be used by hand as well as a ratchet.

These are really nice sockets! Almost no wobble on the ratchet and the tolerance seems to be on the tighter side. The chrome is flawless. I’ve had Kolbalt , Stanley ,Blue Point, Tekton and Milwaukee sockets sets and I prefer these over them with first impressions. I wanted a socket that stepped down in size on the shallows like Snap On,Willams and Icon does. No need in making the socket bigger than it needs to be. I ran across these looking for similar sets and decided to give them a try. They are priced high but can be obtained much cheaper through eBay. 92 sockets,2 ratchets ,4 extensions and 2 swivels for $395. 6 of the sets I got off eBay,1 off Amazon and the other I paid retail for at Lowe’s. These are definitely not your run of the mill cheaper made Craftsman. These look to be some the higher end Taiwan sockets I’ve seen. Full disclaimer though…I’m no mechanic. Just a DIY tool enthusiasts that tries learn something new every day.IMG_2651.jpeg

A few tools from HJE arrived yesterday afternoon.
IMG_20230915_160534.jpg
At work there are a lot 5.5mm nuts that I've been using a nut driver bit in a multibit screwdriver for. Having a dedicated driver has been really nice (for the one day I've used it lol).
The 6 inch channellock griplock pliers are lighter than I expected but I've already found many uses for them. For $10 and change they were certainly worth it. I'm enjoying them a whole lot even if they aren't as precisely manufactured as Knipex cobras.
The lang mini pry bars replaced a pair of flathead screwdrivers I was carrying around to use as pry bars. My screwdrivers can go back to being screwdrivers 😅
The only tool I have yet to use is the Eklind folding hex key set. We use mostly torx fasteners at work though I occasionally need a hex key. This set is super compact and feels sturdy.
