I admit I'm just guessing that.
That's not guessing, that's just good, sound deduction. And you are right, that Mossberg is undoubtedly older. I did not look at it before commenting, I did not realize it was also made by Mossberg with Mossberg markings, and I assumed you were referring to a factory-issue Ford marked wrench. My comment was about knockoffs of Ford factory issue toolkit tools as opposed to original Ford factory issue toolkit tools. Ford brake and reverse band adjustment wrenches are littered all over this forum, from Mossberg, Bog, Hinsdale, Walden, and even Packer ("Ray"), and as Jock alluded to, Ford made the Model T for so long and issued a factory toolkit with it for so long that some of the knockoffs could be older than some of those issue tools. Sorry for the confusion.

If you're interested in Mossberg tools, we have a few threads down on the VB. Just use the A-Z Index in the Sticky to find it quickest.

Saturday was the town wide tag sale. Highlights were a Stanley #3 needing a handle glued for $10, a Hanson Ace tap and die set (from Wustah) for $5 and some bags of brass switch plates for a dollar each. 1695142229971.png

The marking gauge and sawset were freebies. I've never seen calipers quite like that. 1695142566999.png

Cool stuff. How old do you think that Ace set is?

Small haul today.

The Duro 673 was so covered in rust I was forced to scrape a little off to see who made it.
The Scholler was crusted with dirt-impregnated dried grease to the point the forged name was almost unreadable. It has a couple of stress cracks at the back of the mouth so the upper jaw is no longer parallel with the lower and won't close the last 1/4 inch. Oh, well...
The Yankee drill points have seen better days but the North Bros. wooden tube is cool and pre-Stanley.
I think the level is from a breast drill.
I first thought the wooden drill tube was from Millers Falls but no longer. The name that starts with the M is centered over the rest of the text and if "Falls" was there, it would be hanging awkwardly off to the side.
The the barely-there text is:
MIxxxx
Straight Shank Twist Drills
Chrome Vanadium Quality
Set of 9 1/2 length
sizes
$2 for the lot.

I've only got one.
I need a couple dozen for a wall-hanging coat rack. Big doorknobs would be much better than coat hooks.

(Figured I may as well throw in the box of rocks too while I'm at it.)

Thx GPW! I'm still in cleanup mode on it, Case is clean, the rust I need to mitigate and I think that will be Phos Acid, avoiding the paint as much as possible...

I'm pretty confident that the second letter is an I (eye). MI plus four undecipherable letters.

That's a great idea to make a coatrack out of old doorknobs! There's been several times I've seen a box of old brass or glass doorknobs at a sale and though "These are cool but I really need to just leave them here." So now I'll be on the lookout.

four.cycle about door knobs said:

I was serious. I need to re-fashion some sort of wall-hanging rack for the girls' dressing room at the dance studio.
The tiny "coat hooks" they are using now do not hold the weight of the book bags, backpacks, and gym bags they are schlepping in and out of the building. A lot of the girls show up right after school so they are literally hauling luggage with them - the sheer volume of what they are moving in and out of the building on any given day is mind-boggling.
So... I want to fashion something along the line of a 1" x 12" piece of spruce about 6 feet long, with about two dozen door knobs on it so they can hang that stuff up.
The other issue is that the "coat hooks" are poky - they jab holes in costumes. Dancers are in a HUGE hurry when changing costumes - it's all about getting back onto the stage - all other considerations go right out the window. Ergo: "bulletproof" is the order of the day.

I'm going to re-hang the wall-mounted shelves they had in that entry hall (photo below). They had secured them to the drywall with plastic wall anchors and #10 x 1-1/2" screws. ALL of the wall anchors were pulled loose. I think some of those girls carry bowling balls in their bags.

Don - if you want to get rid of those door knobs, I'll take 'em all.

I think that's a brilliant idea, especially for jackets, sweatshirts, etc. without the "hanging loops."

I second that!!

@four.cycle depending on your time and monetary constraints, you might consider a vintage/antique door hung horizontally with doorknobs at different heights--low ones for the bowling ball bags, higher ones for coats and costumes.

I must have hit at least eight sales today, and the results were bupkis. But I salvaged the day with a couple Restore stops, and came away with the above: unmarked draw knife, Herbrand 7/8" socket, bit brace die stock, Dunlap hex key set, and Mayhew pipe reamer in box. Not too shabby for $8.

I scored 3 Yost 33C vises for $100 each last night, they came off of military wreckers that were being rebodied. These are 5" wide Jaw combo vises with pipe jaws. All were in decent shape but had surface rust since they are always outside. The first photos is them in my Excursion, a buddy bought 2 of them before I even got home with them LOL. So the other photos are the one I ended up with. I cleaned it up with wire wheels and lubed the main screw, it works nice now. No abuse on these vises, they were probably little used. One of the swivel locks was rotating and wouldn't loosen, I had to cut it off but managed to save the swivel nut, will pick, will pick up some new carriage bolts and be good to go!20230921_175007.jpg

The neighbors accompanied us to several Nevada sales today and we came home with quite an few items. The first sale produced a Monkey Wards pipe wrench, a mystery monkey wrench, P&C and New Britain pliers.IMG_0304.jpeg
An estate sale had an early Champion DeArment hammer and a Fleet spark plug socket.IMG_0305.jpegIMG_0308.jpeg
We found these at another estate sale. IMG_0307.jpeg
The final sale in Carson City was the most productive. A Kennedy machinist’s box in need of cleaning and several other items.IMG_0296.jpegIMG_0300.jpeg

We’re going to be on the other side of the tables tomorrow. Hope to thin the herd of excess furniture, duplicate ice chests, clothes, and some box lot tools that weren’t the target when I bought them.

Not expecting miracles, a bit late in the season, and the smoky air isn’t helping. Got a friend coming over to share the space, hope it drives up traffic a bit.

Wet weekend in NY means slim pickins... my kid and I went to an advertised "barn sale" and found the following for $20...flat rubber base set for my son,a hammer with a painted handle embossed "Sculpture Assoc. NYC", full metal hammer, KD Tools no 421 radiator hose pliers, Stanley and Pexto chisels, Knipex nippers, and a Williams C clamp. PXL_20230923_160249138.jpg

Those Knipex nippers are actually for Oetiker hose clamps. I have a pair in my tool belt that haven't seen a hose clamp in years, but they make great nail pullers!

No sales for me lately so I'll contribute this photo just to continue the trend. I have accumulated these doorknobs (25+) over the years with the intention of making some sort of entry way coat rack. Obviously I haven't gotten to it yet but it's on 'the list'. I like the idea of using a vintage door turned 90° or some weathered barn wood as wainscoting/paneling.

The lack of sales has helped me sort through some of the many items I need to list/sell and I have had some succes selling a few larger (non shippable) items via Craigslist and FB.

Stopped into a ReStore for the first time ever today. Found these two Stanley braces, no sign of bits for either.

First one was marked Stanley and No 966 - 8 inch. No other brand, dates, etc.

Second had a ratcheting bit holder and was marked Stanley and No 945 - 10 inch. No other brand, dates, etc.

Any idea of the age or value of these? Ebay prices seem to be all over the place. I'm not a flipper, just curious about them.

My dad bought my mom a big loom like that when she first retired. She got into quilting instead of weaving, so it sat idle. I think she sold it, but it might still lurk in a corner of their garage.
I actually went back to buy it and it was sold. My plan was to use it for a year and then donate it to my daughter's school's textile club. Alas, all for nought.
