And on Saturday, again due to her illness, I got a very late start hitting the sales, and only came home with the following:
53277283954_1e998842af_b.jpg
It was the first day of real rain, and all the highways were a mess, further delaying me, so I made an executive decision of what sale I would do best at, and I chose poorly . What looked really good in the ad turned out to be cheap tools for the most part, and i was only able to come away with the following: Belzer tube wrench, two VAR cone wrenches, unused reamer, square 3/8" extension, two Bicycle Research cone wrenches, Gedore DBE, Japanese spoke wrench, Armstrong wrench, and, the real treasure, two bits of Campagnolo; a wrench and skewer quick release. And while there was a bit of interesting bicycle tools but no complete sets, and certainly not as much of interest as I hoped. Oh well, so it goes.
The bottom left Campagnolo item is not a "skewer quick release". It is a gear change lever for fitting into the end of dropped handlebars. You can see the slot and holes for the cable. It should have a three piece steel expander and bolt which is accessed by removing the lever from the body.

I went and took a better look at it, and you are right:

I don't have brifters on any of my bikes, nor any Campy gear, so I wasn't looking for it. Thanks!

Weekend before last an ad came up on FBM for a 'powercraft' socket set for $10. Sadly it was in Cleveland(OHIO) and the poster had written in the description"if this doesn't sell today I am scrapping it,I have no room to store such things" So I politely asked if they take PayPal and would they be willing to ship? Answer was "yes" so today this arrived ,EXTREMELY well packed:

@allinc100 - that's a re-branded model 3275 Indestro (52-tooth) ratchet in that Craftsman/PowrKraft kit there. The drive tools look Indestro-ish. What do the sockets look like? Straight bright chrome barrels with a single knurled band around the top? ;)

Here's the Proto screwdriver set I picked up after doing some cleanup of the screwdrivers and the pouch. Last photo is the "before " photo. I should have the 2 missing Phillips drivers in my stash.

Yes 4C you are correct. They have the single band. pay no attention to the Herbrand orphan at the end. I'd love for them to be as clean and shiny as your example ,but I don't think they will clean quite that good. Sadly this week I have time and equipment, but down to 1 hand. I highly recommend NOT shooting yourself in the hand with a 23 ga micropinner.

Still not much around me but got another lot today, $4 total plus a $10 creeper for the shop that's not pictured.

They had an old fastener cabinet, 20+ different 18" deep drawers with dividers and a top compartment that had two swivel latches to open, too but I didn't see a way for it to fit in my office or actually get filled up.

Plastic Process Equipment prying tool
Cincinnati Tool Co. No.56 clamp
Plastic pipe cleaner
Snap On socket

Hadn't seen brass pressed into a plastic handle or a 2-1/2 lb sledge so I thought they were kinda interesting.

I know the feeling.

Mine's on for 8-10 weeks. Can't get it wet and definitely no oil, solvent or Evap-O-Rust...
I certainly hope it's not that long, and for you I hope you heal quicker than expectations and all goes well. I have my 1st follow up tomorrow at 10 am, 12pm lunch with family and in GJ fashion plotted out 3 estate sales that will garner a visit, while on that side of town.

From a previous post, but thought it was interesting how much one's initial thoughts differed after a bit of research. Got these on a 3rd pass at a busy estate sale. Scooped them up as they're small and don't add much to the overall pile. Got home and Schrade-Walden knives have little value. The cap gun had no markings and generally don't go for much anyway. Processed everything else and finally dug these out of the misc.

A "bit" of research later it turns out the knife is a 1953-1957 MIL-K-8662 pilot survival knife. The cap gun once it came out of the evaporust was very well manufactured: the cylinder pops out; the hammer moves; the barrel is a pentagon. Couldn't find anything close as a toy/cap gun. The ahhha moment came when I wondered if it would chamber 22 cal round. Still haven't found the exact manufacturer, but it pretty likely a 1870'ish 22 cal or slightly larger rimfire? revolver.

Lot's of downsides to this hobby, but the discovery/recovery of such objects is incredibly satisfying... and I'm ready to defend the Alamo :)

I've had a lot of casts, and they ****. But there is an upside to this. I don't know if you've ever experienced a plaster cast before. But the fiberglass casts are extremely light and breath a lot better. Also, you get to chose pretty colors now. LOL.

Plaster cast for 6 weeks from my cajones to my toes for a torn Achilles Tendon back in the 90s. Nowadays they are in a walking boot the day after surgery.

Picked these 5 items up this summer at a what not shop near the airport in Morgantown, WV. SK 3/4 ratchet (needed rebuilt), Craftsman 1/2" "V" ratchet, SK 1/2 beaker bar (now cleaned up), an Armstrong Special DOE 9/16-5/8 marked US ORD, and a 1/4 hex bit extender. $50 for all.

I found a listing for an estate sale in Kensington, CA on estate sales.org. It looked interesting so we headed up the hill this morning. I picked out a few items and asked about a Powr-Kraft toolbox that looked pretty decent. The estate sale guys were supposed to empty out the box and bring it to the car. I thought that it seemed kind of heavy and when I arrived home I found that they had left quite a bit of the contents in the box. Here is what I thought I was buying. IMG_0780.jpeg
Here are the additional tools I didn’t expect. IMG_0788.jpeg
There is too much to list individually but here are some pictures of some items of interest. First, the toolbox.IMG_0778.jpeg

Shiftless dropped by while we were there and he picked up a couple of items including (not too surprisingly) a vise. It was good to catch up with him.

Found one listing in my area for a Thursday sale with tools, so I hit it about three hours after it started, and came away with what you see above (and yes, I desperately need a new camera): drill tap chart, magnetic indicator holder (interesting hold down system), Stanley awl, Wizard patch kit, Fowler (Japan) 2-3" .0001 micrometer, Peacock dial calipers, Brown and Sharpe .001 dial indicator, Mitutoyo combination and centering heads, bag of electrical connectors, Xcelite mini nut drivers, misc. milling tools, diamond hone with sheath, solder sucker, MT wedge, deburring tool, SPI fishtail, red dot sight. $20 for everything. Kind of a weird sale, as they had no idea on how to price things, such as an antique table which, if in excellent condition, would normally go for $200, but here it was pretty beat up and they wanted $400. And that is just an example of it, so much was over priced, but so much was just being let go, witness what I paid.

I fought the crowd at an estate sale today in a cramped little house. Probably caught at least one or two communicable diseases. But at least I came home with a couple decent items. A nice block grinder ($40) and a little Case pen knife ($15). Stag handles, damascus blade, dated 1989. 015.jpg008.jpg009.jpg

You could definitely say that today's flea market small haul [Lugz 2023_35] had a Williams theme and all those pieces came out of the same gigantic stack that I spent a good 20 minutes looking through.

2023_35.jpg

Inside the Williams pouch is a partial postwar miniature combo wrench set that I intend to re-purpose as a home for a wartime ignition set until I luck into a more suitable pouch.

That Williams chromed combo extension spinner is a bit of a headscratcher. The model number (M-110) and the finish should indicate the prewar 9/32-inch drive model, but the stud is 1/4-drive and it shows no signs of being machined down. I will scrutinize it closer later, as that is still the likeliest explanation.

The pair of Williams 9/32-inch drive M-42 hinge handles, cadmium finish, undoubtedly wartime, were found just as you see them, one mated to a PLVMB slot tip screwdriver socket and the other to a CAL AIR #3 cross-recess screwdriver socket, both bits also cadmium plated. My immediate take was that the former PO was using them for some task so repetitive and routine that he did not like to even take the time to switch bits.

I don't have too many of these handsome raised lettering Barc-Buffs with a black ox finish, but I have a few, and I am hoping this is not a dupe.

The XL ignition pliers are Wilde. I have a dozen or so ignition sets going and at least half of them are missing the pliers. Wilde's will do nicely.
