I could have said one more than the Suburban count, although there may be another Burb in the lineup.

Full list of forklifts:

Clark
Parts Clark
Benson
Baker
Ponch
BFF
H80
P60
P80
H130
H110
Yale (scrap one)
Two new ones
If we could get a complete list, along with pics of everyone on this team, we could have some trading cards made up... Stats on the back... Every new forklift would get a rookie card... Something like this, but obviously Clark would have a different face.

I think we are right in the border of snow and rain, I vote no.

The 454 will actually do better than that, I used to have a one ton pickup and would routinely get 12. Towing will drop it as will a heavy foot. Regardless it will be better than no truck, I really need to be hauling scrap off, since the scrap yard is so close, I could probably make ten trips a day. What would be even better would be to fix the crew cab dump and use that, but at this point the scrap I am hauling off is easier to load by hand and the dump trailer has short sides. I won’t get into the bigger steel until spring anyways.

I am cleaning out Bev now, figured the Hill was a better place to keep all my tower rigging and safety gear since two three of our towers are within 4 miles of the shop, two are less than one mile. I had planned to remove the back body anyways, got to rework it so it will be a mobile tool storage/workshop. There is a lot of stuff in it, some stuff I had forgotten about. ;)

My tower is almost done, another load or two of gravel, then a bit of clean up on the way out should do it. Next year I will have to work on the road in, can’t justify the extra time this year. Next will be moving the dirt from the bottom of the Hill to the top of the Hill. I hope to have that done today as well.

Going early Saturday to decide if I am buying the new Burb, guy says he is dead firm on the price and he doesn’t need the money. I guess I will have to see how many issues it has and how much I want to tackle. It is a 1999 OBS, has 157k on the clock, fresh escapee of Cali, interior looks near perfect, exterior looks damn good, seller said check engine light comes on, so we will see what that is. I told him I am going on a decently long test drive. If he wants all the money, I want all the truck. Unfortunately it has some goofy aftermarket rims, stock ones are long gone, then it doesn’t have running boards (I like those) and the interior is tan (I don’t like that). I have not found much else that is rust free for anywhere near the price. He said he paid $16k for it a couple years ago and now the prices have dropped down. I think he overpaid, if he really did pay that, regardless it would take some decent money and effort to ship one in from Cali, so having it four hours away is a little easier to deal with.

I talked to the forklift manufacturer, the guy was helpful but said everything is obsolete from them, but everything is made by someone else and is probably used in another application, so getting both of them would be the best way to go, then if I can’t find parts, I have a parts machine. I suspect that I will be able to find just about anything with some digging. With the forks folded up for transport they are 11’ long and I have 24’ of flat deck on the Muv-All, so we should be good to go. They are four wheel steer as well as four wheel drive with selectable locking diffs. Only thing I don’t know is if they are air brake or air over hydraulic, hope that they are air brake, but I will live with it if not. Saturday is Burb day, Sunday is forklift day.

They ask some questions, I am sure the “fraud” department will be on me again. I spoke to my banker before doing this, she is pretty good about keeping them off my rear. From what I understand $10k and up is a reporting event, it isn’t really an issue, but trying to structure withdrawals by taking out 9500, then 9000, is Very frowned upon.

I am over at the Salvage Garage, had to drop off some tires to my Buddy’s shop, then I need to fill the diesel tanks, then swap out some batteries, then get dinner, then load Bev with more tires to go from the Hill to the SG. It is soooo much colder inside than it is outside, must be close to 55.

I wouldn’t do this with full tanks, but they fit really well, I did have them more or less strapped down.

Now they are in the back and ready for me to fill them, going to do that, then grab some batteries, I am trying to get all the same style in all the trucks and equipment, so far it isn’t working. It might need to be two types. I just don’t want ten types, I never seem to have the proper battery when I need one, I bet the new forklifts will be different too.

I am not too worried, but you never know. I have read some horror stories about that, mostly in southern states though, haven’t seen much around here.

I won’t be in my vehicle tomorrow and on the way home I will be broke (unless the burb is not worth buying). On Sunday I will be in the tractor trailer, not a real hot asset forfeiture vehicle.

Bev is loaded again, Perk is fueled up, I am working on what I want to bring with me. I have my scan tool, I am thinking multimeter just incase, booster pack, a few hand tools, nothing crazy as I have AAA that will tow me 200 miles, only have to make it 40 miles before that kicks in. I might bring the plates and registration from the Blurb, they don’t like the dealer plate. I was thinking manual oil pressure gauge, need to see what it takes to access the OPS. Other than that, probably take it for a 30 minute test drive and see what happens. I am willing to bet it is going to have a check engine light, I can fix mechanical things, I don’t want to fix rusty **** though.

$775 worth of fuel, $530 worth of used batteries and a bunch of cash, what could go wrong?

At least you’re not driving a super old Winnebago!

That would be worse.

It looks like trying to check oil pressure with a manual gauge is not an easy thing. I can get at it on the 6.5 without much effort. I guess we will have to go by the gauge and hope that is works, they generally don't read high if there is an issue. I just know that the 454s seem to have oil pressure issues at hot idle more than some of the other engines I deal with.

Another bad thing, the forecast for Sunday night into Monday is snow, maybe inches and it doesn’t look like it will be warm enough to melt it, going to make everything a messsssss.

It will be IRS agents dipping tanks, they wear a big side arm when they are doing it. Not worth it. I’ve heard you can make filter out of speedy dry to remove the red color, not sure how you make sure there is no grit in it when it goes thru the injection pump?

If you are talking about off-road diesel, I don’t use that in any of my commercial trucks, just equipment. As for grit, it all comes from the same tank they just add dye to it. Only difference is road tax, if it had grit in it, people would have some serious issues with equipment.

At the Salvage Garage, Buddy should be here soon, I just hope this truck is half as good as the guy is talking it up.

Yeah, it's frustrating, but better to have looked and chosen to pass on it than to have the woulda, coulda, shoulda for weeks later.

Keep working the plan with one or more of your current burbs. At least you know know most of the current issues and what it necessary to get done.

Get some lunch, regroup and get on with it.

Take the money your would have spent on the "new" burb and put it back in the bank so it's available for a rainy day. Or for buying parts for the current burbs/equipment.... Or better yet, a nice dividend paying investment fund ...

Onward and upward... Git r done!

Light iron is $80 a ton, terrible, just terrible. Oh well, had to get rid of stuff and glad it is gone. I finally used my dumping bin for its intended purpose.

EVERYTHING else costs more now, inflation. HOW is scrap never going up???? Somebody is getting rich somewhere. Steel costs a fortune.
