Put the trash can out before they come to work, even if on the evening before. Keep a camera pointed that way to document if they mess with it.

I hit one lackluster sale on Friday, and five sales yesterday, with some luck:
The first two stops were busts, the first having a lot of interesting stuff, none was in my balliwick or price range, and the second was a no show. The third, way out in the country, was awesome, and I hope it is going next week! Here I found the Higginbotham tap chart (my grandfather used to sell steel to them), most of a set of Plomb DBEs (barely used), Snap-on 13mm wrench, Diamaloy HL14 in box, and Maydole 4oz hammer. That was a semi-digger sale, and I only had a limited amount in my wallet, I will bring more if it goes on. The third stop was billed as a major shop sale, and it was, although not much interested me, but I did find the set of (mostly) Craftsman ratcheting combos. The last stop was all the way across town, and here I found an incomplete set of Wizard sockets that included a Walden ratchet and breaker bar, Plomb breaker, Long C T-handle, etc. Also, the oldest and cleanest Whitney #5 I have ever seen.
Of course, me being me, I picked up some paper, mostly at a friends bookshop:
an Arkham house collection of short stories from '47, and a humorous bicycling tour of Germany from 1900. The map of Britain, '51, came from Fridays sale, along with the socket chisel and spokeshave.
Here is the punch:
if you look closely, you will see it is dated 1940.

Great find on the Whitney Jr.! mid 30's based on the paper! My earliest boxed set is early 50's (similar statement, but 40 years since 1910)

A **** for bmw, because even though he doesn't tell prices, I know the Plomb set, the boxed Diamond pliers, and the Whitney punch are qualifying!

Very nice Plomb set.
A few Plomb pieces here in yesterday’s haul (2 speeders, 2 sockets, extension, and a 6 inch adjustable I found in the grass by some tool boxes).
Got everything laid out today. The haul minus the few pieces I posted last night. A bit much to list.

That last box needs a Geiger counter run over it, or stuck with a dosimeter to see how much it absorbed...

I found these in the tool box I got this weekend. Any of you guys know what this was used for.
Rubber handle with “star” and 5200 on it, taper drill bits some kind of hand drill but what was it used for?? Markings on the bits look like M&B in a diamond. The other handle seems like a set tool of sorts. Any ideas?

No just a striking end. Unless it’s bound up and I haven’t messed with it enough. It does seem like masonry I just looked at the bits again.

I wanna say Rawl Plugs came supplied with Rawl bits to install them. I have a bunch of MT type bits, but too small for even a MT#1.
That thing was probably the intended drill. Gotta look to see if they also go with my old MKE 5351 electric hammer.

Picked up this Rock Island #597 6" jaw vise tonight from Marketplace for $100. The dynamic jaw has been welded, but appears to be a very old solid repair. Jaws and rest of vise are in good condition. I figured it will make a real nice user for $100

Struck out at a local estate sale, nothing there for me. Instead I got some new or almost new items off a curb on trash night. Almost new snow shovel (not shown), padded bicycle seat cover, 3 new car detailing tools, a pack of microfiber towels, bicycle lock, Excide Nascar brand heavy duty jumper cables, D rings, and a bag of what I think are assembled weighted hand lines for crabbing. An old school way of catching crabs without crab traps was casting fish heads on lines and then slowly retrieving them with an unsuspecting feeding crab attached. The trick was quickly netting the crab with a long handled net.

When I got my 577 a couple years ago I did a search on the big vise thread and I think there might more welded or brazed 6" rock islands than there are intact. Mine had been apparently used for years in it's current state. Good find at that price. I think I paid a little more.

What gauge is the copper on those? (Not trying tp start another "gauge" trope! but for jumpers it's all about how much copper you have in the cable)
went to a Garage Sale Saturday and saw the usual kitchen wares and the like and then spotted this tall almost 5 foot old card file cabinet made by General Fireproofing 60's or 70s vintage, did a quick checkout of the 12 drawer and she looked really good, and was really well made and heavy duty. Thought to myself, he probably wants too much for it, so browsed around didn't see anything. So I asked him, kind of just semi interested, "how much for the file cabinet ?" so he says 35 ! Now inside I'm like saying to myself, what a STEAL!!, but I play it cool, and don't bat an eye, so me and him wander over to the beast. I pull out a drawer or two, I mutter something about the dust in the drawers, all the while I'm trying to contain the drool from coming out of my slack jaw. So he says it is heavy, and I reply with one of those, "yeah I wonder if I'll be able to move it around" Knowing full well that won't be an issue hahhaaha. So at this point I realize he wants it gone and badly, so I say, "will you take 30?" (yeah I know the nerve of me) anyways he says sure!! OMG I can't hold in the excitement of such a score, no grease, no rust save a bit on the bottom skirt which has already been fixed (see it on top in silver). So this thing is deep about 28 in by 13 1/4 in 56in tall, General Fireproofing. Ball bearing slides and smooth drawers. Now where to put it? drawers are about 3 in deep and each has two seperaters for the old inventory cards that I found out these were used for. Someone used it a bit for a toolbox but it isn't at all black and greasy like your usual toolbox! Yeah thats right 12 drawers !! Rough estimate of about 23 square feet !! The drawers just lift out, the slides would make any tool box maker envious, this thing is a beast.

Been rainy& windy out & family obligations kept me out of action the past few weekends, so not much new to even dream about, much less go shopping. Walking the dogs today, found a curbside box of goodies, mostly files, and a bunch of bits. Probably other stuff grabbed before I got there, the boxes were too big for what little was in there.
Top two are China, Middle 5 I can't see a mark, bottom 4 I can't read yet, but one says Austria. Odd that the two China made are the heaviest and thickest of the bunch. Will send them all off to Boggs soon, I'm getting near a box full again.
Two doors down from the curbside find, guy had his big Ford truck blocking the sidewalk, and a small trailer held a 2500# 1970s vintage Clausing / Colchester lathe. He was in the process of rigging it to drag it off the trailer, and just needed to move some plywood to get his toe clamp under the drive end. The other end was already up on machinery skates. I would have loved to help, but had to get back for a meeting. He also had a nice Atlas floor standing DP that was moved aside to clear the path for the lathe. Gonna have to keep an eye on this guy. Slight concern, all the jacks and skates and tools visible were all made in China goodies.

This is a late posting from the weekend. We hit the Allair State Park Fleamarket over the weekend and I found 2 work lamps. The price was good and I bought both of 2 he had. Mrs No_Garage even haggled for me!
I got them home and started figuring out what they needed to be put to use. The switch mechanisms are worn but they work ok. I need to switch the joint fasteners to wingnuts to make adjustment easier. The "cage" is small so I'm looking for an LED bulb that fits and puts out enough light.
It took me a day or so to even see that they were marked Craftsman.

Just hit up a barn sale on this rainy Thursday morning. He had some decent hand tools but nothing really jumped at me except for the Heller body file. I grabbed the file for $5 and the OTC 11/16 ratchet wrench, SK 3/8" breaker bar, CMAN 1/4" breaker bar, Action 1/4" breaker bar and CMAN 3/8" ratchet for $7 totaling $12. As I'm leaving he tells me how he does clean outs and about a load of body tools he recently sold for $1-$2 each hammer/dolly

He then finds one more milk crate with this Garland #4 rawhide mallet claiming it to be a body repair tool. Knowing full well it's not and not having a rawhide mallet, I bought it for $5 and went on my merry way. Looks like they bring much more than $5 so I'm happy and that'll be getting listed shortly.

Two sales today. First one was hard to find and had a good amount of tools, but all were poorly kept--lots of rust--and not the good kind...
Worse, though, were the prices. There were a lot of familiar ES denizens prowling around and all of us were shaking our heads when we weren't laughing out loud.
Second was a lot a lot less interesting but prices were excellent. Only three things of interest and cost $7.
Partial Snap-on 1/4 socket set with SO socket rail, all from 1991 or 92.
Unused hat that I'm sure I'll find plenty of places to wear.
Armstrong Specialty wrench #050573. 2-5/8" with a 5/8" smooth bore in the handle. Weighs 7lb 6oz but feels like 10lbs.
