Snuck out to a couple sales after work. Best one was a hoarder garage, there was stuff everywhere. The guy pricing stuff told me a sad story about his parents passing so I didn't go as low as I would usually for someone who doesn't know what stuff is.

The guy that accumulated all this stuff was a VW guy, so lots of metric. Unfortunately the place looked like a bomb went off and most of the stuff was in very poor condition. I paid $15 for the Matco cart and $8 for the rest other than a couple of pieces I picked up at another sale for an additional $1

Here's the cart and the stuff. The cart is trashed but I'm gonna give a good cleaning and try to straighten it out a bit. It rolls well and seems to be solid, it'll be a nice piece of organization for the disaster that is my basement :ROFLMAO:

IMG_5893.jpg

The other bits: Starting top right and going clockwise, Proto, SK, Craftsman, Bonney, Duro Chrome, Snap on, Williams, Mac, the little RHFT is an Easco. Bottom sockets are mostly Cornwell metric, hope they clean up because they're trashed! Above that is Indestro, Snap on, Craftsman, the little carb tool is a Bonney. Up near the SK box are SK and Proto.

Most of this stuff is metric due to the guy working on VWs. Kinda nice to find some of the relatively older stuff in metric!

IMG_5894.jpg

The Indestro and SK boxes are pretty roached outside but not bad inside...

Been needing to replace a fold up work table & finally scored a WEN for $20.00. Seems solid, not much wear. Good deal on 3 ice rods for $5.00 ea. case thrown in. One rod is an Ugly Stik 🤩
This was an elderly lady obviously selling her husbands tools. I inquired about the circumstances of his demise. They had been scouting elk 3 yrs. ago in the LaPlatas. He simply never returned to the truck. That happens too frequently here. One man disappeared at Mesa Verde on a short trail to a ruin & wasn't found for 3 years.
suggested now that she was selling his tools, he will show up🤧

4 stops today, not to bad $19 for everything.

1st stop was a bernzomatic torch and some fuel
Then this bad *** homemade knife with USS Wisconsin and the guys name and anchor carved in a 20mm shell. I’m going to see if I can find out when he served!!

IMG_5546.jpegIMG_5547.jpeg

Next was a proto challenger 1/4 socket set missing both 1/2 in and the spinner handle. It’s odd that both 5/16 are cracked! & a Cornwell 1/2
A nice old craftsman steel tape measure blade is in great shape
Stanley 100 tack puller
Craftsman round file
Williams and Armstrong doe’s
USA Goodell scraper
Utica tiny needle nose

IMG_5545.jpeg

And last was some dremel bits and pieces
Snap on stubby
Lufkin Bell System folding ruler
Small brass wire brush
Magnifying glass

IMG_5548.jpeg

Let me know if anyone can help me fill out the proto set please.

It's about 100 degrees here and we hit an in town festival early and ate some lunch. After that it was off to a few sales. Didnt hit as many sales I would normally but still found a few things worth bringing home. Scored these nice aviation coffee table picture books for my 11 year old for $15. Also got the craftsman Long C bit driver and the Matco usa 3/8 impact wobble for $1. At a barn cleanout I scored this early long C grinder arbor and the early 1 way P&C ratchet for $10 total. The ratchet is pretty rough but it's early and even around these parts being close to the factory, you dont find them often so I picked it up... Hopefully it will be able to be revived with some love.IMG_0696.jpegIMG_0697.jpegIMG_0701.jpegIMG_0702.jpeg

Another longer drive, -not as long as last week for sure, but one of my favorite HS fleas to start. Then, as it turned out 3 "block" sales, 2 were multiple streets and one was maybe 3 houses, but all produced. a few TOOs and a couple of single stops as well.

Right off the bat at the flea, as I was looking this one over for markings the seller says, $5"

B1-Dietz-100-PG-E-1.jpg

I had just spotted "PG&E Co." on it so, no brainer! I'm not sure yet but the paint may be original?

B1-Dietz-100-PG-E-2.jpg

The rest of the flea was pretty slow, I did leave behind several 220/228 lanterns and a couple of 425's. One 228 had the right year, but wrong month for one I'm looking for, so was not enough to break my ban on common greens.

$2 each for the collapsible cup and wood chisel; The chisel is in nice condition - the lade barely needs a touch up, marked "Baker" and "Hand Made" - about 1/32nd over 1/2" so I believe that. It should clean up nice. A buck each for the old variable resistor, and ZEP branded pocket driver - That was it for the Flea:

B2-Cup-Chisel-Resistor-ZEP-river.jpg

At Yard sales - A buck each for the long Matco, 13mm, ratchet wrench, Proto LA marked Pebble, and the SO combos in 10mm and 5/16 - the #0 Coleman funnels was 0.25c I need to made a felt filter ring for it:

Y1-0-funnel-Y3-Matco-SO-Proto.jpg

$5 for this old "Cub" marked hatchet. other marks may surface as I get the head cleaned up:

Y2-Cub-1.jpg

Y2-Cub-2.jpg

$2 for the spikes, Level (headed for camp gear) 3/4" drill, reversible pocket driver, and dykes. these have the jaw pocket filed with silicone so the bits don't go flying. I have another pair of these in with other pliers. I am miffed at myself there was a Proto stubby in my hands but it has disappeared? I checked the vehicle and such. probably outside the car when it happened.

Y4-Spikes-Level-Drill-Driver-Dykes.jpg

This is different - its a photographers "light box" with lights - those "claws" at the bottom of the lights pull out and turn into stands:

Y5-Light-box-1.jpg

Setup in my normal "best light for photos" kitchen counter:

Y5-Light-box-2.jpg

Without using the lights, just the ambient and the camera's flash -I'll need to play wit this - it may be more trouble than its worth generally, unless I'm trying to shoot pics after dark:

Y5-Light-box-3.jpg

A buck each: vintage eyeglass cases, and a dime counter:

Y6-Glasses-cases-dime-counter.jpg

With bifocal glasses -but these cases are identical to the ones Chapman used for bit drivers back around WWII and after:

Y6-Glassesr.jpg

Purple Pyrex baking dish, the cover does not fit it, but I think does for one of our other baking dishes:

Some excellent scores fellas.

Smoke- I love that you got a hard to find Craftsman driver and the P&C hex.

Flyer- the way you always find so much Vulcan you must be on the Enterprise!

Patrick- that looks like a very special knife! Congrats on that find.

Saukit- have to agree it’s cool to find a bunch of older metric.

Welp, turns out I'm an idiot. Just couldn't help myself and went back to the hoarder sale to pick up two tool caddies that I'd left behind yesterday because they were offshore and completely covered in oil and tar to boot...now my rig smells like used motor oil and after two hours of scraping I'm just through the first layer of crud. Only paid 5 bucks each for them though so I guess if I have to get rid of them it won't hurt too bad.

IMG_5897.jpg

Not quite as bad after getting all the junk out and wiping all the oil off but these things are still filthy to the point that I'm reluctant to spray them off in the back yard. Might have to take them to the carwash :ROFLMAO: They're kinda cool though, and for whatever reason I like them even if they're not the fancy Euro version!

IMG_5905.jpg

IMG_5898.jpg

IMG_5899.jpg

Also picked up the SK roll and Cornwell home made T for a buck. The big Plomb 3/4" sockets and ignition wrench came from the flea for $10

IMG_5902.jpg

IMG_5900.jpg

Finally, went to a first day estate sale and found a few bits that hadn't been picked up for whatever reason. The Craftsman "Driver Light" is kinda amusing, pretty much just bought it because I figured someone out there would pay too much for it:ROFLMAO:. Then an SK Wayne box, SK SAE blow mold 3/8" socket set with a frankenstein style rat, and a Craftsman right angle adaptor that I grabbed cause it had the original box. $12 plus tax thanks to some kids running the garage that weren't exactly hard bargainers :deathmeta

Here they be. I never owned the old Husky before so I didn’t know it could get a case of the “chalk handle”.

Here is my sorta tiny haul for today. I volunteered to help my buddy continue the shop clean up event. He was having a garage sale today, at really cheap prices, with the plan to move the unsold stuff out. Afterwards, we took two trucks down to Urban Ore, and then many things they did not want came with me, to be put out on the curb for the next few days. Anything left is going in the trash.

Since I had time, due to very few shoppers, I went through things in a little more detail, sorting out rivets, driver bits, and a box of wrenches, just to grab a few goodies. A few other things were found as we moved stuff into the trucks, so it is a bit scattered.

Right to Left
Couple of indexed washers, Union 12" rule, Breast drill main gear with handle (will be offered up later), 2x welders glass lens covers SP-16? 3x cheese cutting wires (I know some of you don't need wire), 2x solo vise pipe jaws, a bunch of hex driver bits, a bunch of Yankee bits, a saw spider for "setting" big crosscut saws, box of copper rivets and ?roves?, two bundles and a bag of rivets, 2 boxes of pop rivets, Couple of landscape stake sized nails, big clamp for a Cal-Van idiot light I picked up a few weeks back, and off screen left a pen like scribe from Lucas Milhaupt Eng Co, Cudahy, WI, and a Vaco 5/16" nut driver (see them next pic)

PXL_20240720_235731614-X2.jpg

This pic, Top to bottom, L - R'

NEHI wooden case, Stanley block plane blade, DuroChrome and unmarked wrenches, Craftsman #1 tappet wrench, Bonney DBE, couple of circular arbor nut wrenches, Williams cut off tappet wrench, Williams T socket wrench, couple of more tool wrenches, and LectroLite offset DBE, and a Jacobs giant chuck key.

PXL_20240720_235904521-X3.jpg

The bonus find as I was making a last pass of **** for the scrap pile, a sorta set of what I assume are 3 drill press handles. I will figure out thread size later, and post them for trade in the classifieds.

PXL_20240721_002109686-X3.jpg

Here is a preview of what is going out on the curb* tomorrow, if anyone wants to inquire about things, I can look in the morning when I spread it out.. R-L
Box of wrenches, ranging from old looking DOE to newer Everlast, Gedore India, drain plug wrench, etc, hatchet and broken hammer handle, box of chiselish items, files, rivet press, marking stuff, saw handles, files in back, files, file handles and screwdrivers, saw blades (I will be grabbing any new sawzall blades), 2x mattock blades, sharpening stones, and more files, two cash boxes, no latches top right (green is a bit heavier, gray is usual cheap stuff), and a bunch of random wood scraps.

* edit for clarity: this is a FreeCycle curb alert, just come by and take the stuff. If it’s still here after a few days, it will go in the bin at the curb

On Friday I hit shop clear out, run by an old couple who tend to run real low-rent sales, which I love. Lots of junk, they make up prices on the spot, take the jobs no one else will, etc. Plus the guy doesn't know nearly as much about tools as he thinks he does. Anyway, here is what I found:
53870159833_fa6576b082_b.jpg
Mitutoyo brake disc caliper, Craftsman metric speed wrench set 8-16mm, T-handle screwdriver, Proto puller, Craftsman 8mm combo, Snap-on ratchet. $45 and I think I have the correct forcing screw for the puller around here somewhere.

Today, I hit three sales, with good luck at two. The first was a family run estate sale, and I spent $30:
53870172383_41a9fe93fa_b.jpg
early Heritage 1/2" set in box, and Craftsman body tools.
53870338765_4212a354c1_b.jpg
And I think the set is complete, with extras!
53869021372_4315defb3f_b.jpg
(there was also a boxwood ruler and a GTD reamer that I left in my truck)

The next sale was a pretty ******** shop (and home) estate sale I hit on the second, half price day. Lots of good stuff left, but someone had bought both mills already, like I need another one! But, they did not include a lot of the mill hardware, and I picked up some good stuff:
53870268634_f1fced439a_b.jpg
A set of MT3 collets (unmarked, but are perfect for my SB9), mill gear cutter, brass caliper, mill hold down blocks (foreign) and a Fairmont machine handle. The woman working the register must have liked me, as she looked in my bin and said "Three bucks sound good?"

Final sale I must have beaten Smokeshow there by minutes, as I picked up and almost bought the P&C hex ratchet he ended up with. But the stuff was filthy and the seller wanted way too much for anything I was interested in.

Oh, you might have noticed I have all of this on the living room rug? Well, I am unsupervised for the next few days! So, beer and treasure hunting is what is up.

Some are marked Stearns and don’t have a provision for a handle, just a knurled knob. If anyone knows what these are for please let me know
Light work? Draftsman, clamping drawing paper down? Jewelers, home workshops before GJ was invented., sounds light. Very convenient compared to dealing with the sliding rod in a confined space.

Draftsman, clamping drawing paper down?

I guess, but I've never heard of this, and while my experience does not go back to 1934, many of my collection of drafting books do, and none ever mentioned clamps. (they would get in the way of the T-square or drafting machines)

That’s why I had a question mark. Tape in HS, tape dots on the job.

A quick walk around the small car boot sale the other side of the village this morning yielded this small but good haul. Just over £5 all in from different sellers.

DSCF9967R.jpg

Stainless steel large hose clip. Will go in the spares box on my nephew's new boat.
Reel of 0.45mm lock wire.
Stick of plumbers solder.
Dowidat 7/8" combo. Looks unused.
Britool 22x23mm DOE. Looks unused. UK Govt property mark and dated 1978.
CK branded 15mm combo. No COO.
Snail Brand 3/16x1/4 Whit. DOE. I like the snail trade mark.
Hozelock hose fittings washers and O rings.
Unused vise jaw, Nice piece of hard steel.
Speciality pliers.

DSCF9970R.jpg

These are the find of the day. Weller/Erem 580E distance cutters. These are precision Swiss made cutters for cropping electrical component leads at the same distance below a PCB before soldering. Very well made and featuring a concealed opening spring. When I saw them I thought that I knew what they are for but checked on-line when I got home and was shocked to find that they a c.£140 to buy new!! I don't do as much hobby electronics as I used to, but they will be used.

My first good day of yardsales all season. I didn't find a lot of sales but the few I found had some good stuff.

First one was a moving sale. I picked up a Schumacher charger, two snap on ratchets, and what I thought was a U.S. military footlocker. I didn't realize until I got it home that is was actually a box for transporting typewriters. It was stamped 1969 inside. It fits nicely and works great in my office/gun room for storing my gun accessories. I paid $75 for everything.

1000014599.jpg
1000014597.jpg1000014611.jpg

1000014602.jpg
Second garage sale I picked up these great condition Filko metal cabinets. They lock and have keys. They also close up tight. These will look good cleaned up and mounted in my shop. I paid $30 total for all 3.
1000014603.jpg1000014608.jpg1000014607.jpgat the same yardsale I also picked up this nice Bayco extension cord reel for $5.
1000014600.jpg
I then picked up a battery cable tool and a mystery tool. I really only got it because it was Blue Point. Paid $7 for both. Turns out the mystery tool is for removing the screws on wheel well trim. Who knew they made a tool for that. (First picture)

And at the last yardsale of the day, I picked up an old 7.62 ball ammo crate for $2. This will also go great in my office.

1000014606.jpg

I forgot, the first purchase of the day was 20 CR123 Duracell batteries new in the package for $2 total. These are normally pretty expensive batteries and they are used in several of my weapon lights. Too good of a deal to pass up for sure.

Total spent on all of this was $121. I'm happy.

Yeah, you sucuk on the days haul for sure.

Had this happen last week - guy in the garage wrote me a ticket for $12 she wadded it up and said 8.

That’s why I had a question mark. Tape in HS, tape dots on the job.
Maybe for clamping the T-square or other straight edge in place on an old school portable drafting board? For many parallel/angled lines? "Shading" a large section? Again :dunno:

Not strictly a garage sale find, but a local purchase just the same...

Sometimes it's nice to remember the nice experiences, too. Found this lot of Williams 1/2" drive sockets when I was trawling eBay looking for some 1/2" 6 point users (I was reminded the other day that I live in the rust belt when I was working on my car and couldn't get a thick-walled impact socket on a very rusted bolt head - no 3/8" adapter and only 12 pointers to use with my 1/2" breaker bar). The lot was too cheap to pass up - figured I could use them to fill out sets, etc.

IMG_6357.jpg

A few minutes after pressing BIN the seller messaged me. They had noticed that I only lived a few miles from them. We arranged to meet up nearby and they refunded the shipping. They didn't have to do that but I made sure to tell them that I appreciated it.

Another visit to the pickers sale from Friday - I had missed his shed then.

Smalls, and only $10:

Race car print is signed by Mike Sargent - I was on his pit crew for part of my second year in racing - this pic was from quite a few years later; A box with a few cub scout pins and badges, and a pack of Silk Lites:

Sargent-Cubs-Silk-Lite.jpg

A Falls City Air breather minnow bucket, plenty dusty and the decal is damaged, but otherwise in good condition and complete with the fiber bucket inside. didn't seen to have been used much, jsut garage/storage damage to the decal.

Not exactly a Garage sale find but an online auction buy. I took a shot in the dark because the description of the lot didn’t say anything about tools. But looking at the pictures in the can looked like some big sockets and so I figured for $5 I can’t go wrong. Also this is my first post so I apologize if I formatted or didn’t do it right. Thanks all!

Stopped by the local picker’s place to see what he had put out (he sells most every day).

Lots of new clamps in various sizes. A couple of Williams, a Cincinnati Tool Co., and a nice large one that I think is marked Mark, Chicago.

IMG_6232.jpeg
IMG_6233.jpeg
IMG_6236.jpeg
IMG_6237.jpeg

Also picked up a couple of Vice Grip 8BR in decent shape.
IMG_6234.jpeg

Next find was a couple of Jamestown, NY marked chisels and a couple of Craftsman wrenches and a Ford.
IMG_6235.jpeg

The last item is one I need some help with. It’s a Hollands Mfg. Co. (Erie, PA) ratcheting wrench about 20” long that I was told was used for railroad track switches.
