Not enough time to do much out there today. I managed to install the late model 2 piece fuel pump eccentric on the timing gear, then wiped down the block with laquer thinner, sprayed a couple of coats of engine paint on, set the intake, valve covers and timing cover on to keep the dust off, and left the paint to dry overnight.

I just went through this a couple of days ago on my 67 cougar, was a pain getting the thermostat to stay in. I'm swapping to studs next time, thanks!
Do you use the rubber band trick to hold the thermostat in the housing? This is my go to move to reduce frustration.

Right now I'm working on little railing pediments. Cast in aluminum. Small things seem tougher than big stuff. Go figure.
I'm not sure what I don't do. Maybe y'all can make a list for me.
The homemade forge/furnace.

Kay,
Have you seen Brian Oltrogge on Youtube?
If you haven't, you might enjoy his work.

Did the old change a week ago on my 2018 Chevrolet Equinox Diesel and I noticed that the fuel filter life in the IP was reading at 42% so I stopped in at the dealership and picked up a new fuel filter as they were actually the safest bet that it was OEM. Today before it got to warm in the shop I did the replacement. It always concerns me a bit to be using a 36 MM socket on a plastic housing but no real issue and the filter job is done. Well the work on this car might be for naught. I got rear ended on the freeway in stop and go traffic. I stopped, the guy in a Toyota pickup stopped, the blind dumb young lady doing a lane change and reaching for phone did not. The bumper, tailgate, and spare tire well are crushed forward with the spare tire well crushed forward a good inch surprised the rear tailgate still works IMG_1776.jpegIMG_1780.jpegIMG_1782.jpeg

Usually a cam position sensor and a crank sensor have the same mileage on them, normally I would replace both at the same time.
FWIW, I have had to replace many cam position sensors but never a crank sensor, on multiple high mileage vehicles. Still, if it is a lot of work to access and that work is being done for the cam position sensor, I'd probably proactively replace the crank sensor too.

The crank sensor on this is super easy, just a 10mm and a plug. I just figure they're both magnetic pick ups with the same amount of miles and heat cycles on them.

By the way, no cold start issues this morning. I'm slowly accepting it might be fixed..lol

Sounds like you're in the same 'wait and see' mode that I'm in with the wife's EVAP. I'm still waiting for her to text that her check engine light is back on.

Back when I was working in the auto parts store whenever someone came in with a broken housing after replacing the thermostat, I would always show them how to do that, and warn them I had only one more of the housings in stock.

Looping a rubber band through the bridge on the thermostat, feeding it though the neck to hold the thermostat properly in its position. This applies the the Ford 260 and up V8 engines where the water outlet has a recess that the thermostat sits in. If one isn't careful or aware the thermostat slips out of position and when tightening the bolts the housing can bend or break.

Rubber band through the loop on the thermostat, then up the neck, and stick a pencil or drill bit through the rubber band. Tension holds the thermostat in place in the little recess for them. There are other methods, but that's the most common AFAIK.

New to me and genius! So simple! I always just RTV'd them in place, but that takes time!

always nice to be able to step back and look at how things will look when finished. I REALLY need to get back to my F350 work.

The very reason I only ride my motorcycles on back roads here in western WA. Drivers here ****!
Although not the only reason, this was a big contributor to my decision to sell my motorcycle a few years ago. Too many incompetent idiots, many of whom are paying more attention to their phone, entertainment system, navigation app, or whatever than they are to what's going in around them. Situational awareness seems nearly extinct these days.

Finally got a few minutes out in the shop to route out the hanging slots on the back of the award plaques using the new router bit with the old Craftsman router and portable table. Not a big deal just another step that needed to be done before I can move on to the stain and finishing steps. 1722387534635.jpeg
UPDATE...Over the last couple days I was able to sand, stain and apply a couple coats of clear. I went with Varathane's 'Classic Black' wood stain topped with a couple coats of MinWax Clear Polyurethane. I wiped off some of the stain from the front to lighten it and show the grain and left the circles and edges darker.

Today I sanded the front of the plaques to smooth the clear coat finish and applied a coat of Howard's Feed-n-Wax Bees Wax. ( I don't want a new shiney finish, instead I'm going for an aged look. Perfectly imperfect is the look I want on these considering they will be for the 'Vintage Motorcycle' catagory of the Show. ) After that I hot glued the metal motorcycle medallions in place. 1723222983724.jpeg

I'll add another couple coats of the Bees Wax to finish before adding the engraved info plates on the front and black felt to the backside. Those two items I still have to order. Getting close to the finish line on this project. 1723222777587.jpegView attachment 2162131

So sorry to hear about your accident, hope you are ok. People need to stop f'ing with their phone while driving &pay attention to the vehicle in front of them. The damn text can wait. Rant over.
Mike, here's your sign!

It's been on the car for almost 20 years. I have a new one that will go on when this one has a touch more patina.

I had no injuries and not even sore from the accident I waiting to see what the adjuster says about the car. A car with CarPlay or google auto is so much easier to have and then use. I have it in the equinox and added a new head unit to my 20 year old Ram just so I would not be distracted by the damn phone

I dont know if you live in a no fault state, but if you do, a visit to the Doctor guarantees your insurance company will fight the other insurance company for you. In a no fault state, some insurance companies leave it up to you to try and collect from the other guys insurance company.

Learned that the hard way.

I found that drill bit you lost... about 20 years ago I pulled the thermostat out of a 302 Ford engine that had no heat, it had a 1/4" drill bit stuck in it.....

Continued assembling the timing cover and installing the balancer, but discovered I needed some additional bolts and a water pump gasket. The 1995 engine came with a gasket set, but none of the 5 supplied water pump gaskets work with the 1976 water pump which has the suction on the drivers side (passenger side for our down under and UK friends). Spent most of the day running around looking for various lengths of 5/16-18 stainless bolts and the gasket. Got back and snugged it up, but still need to torque the bolts tomorrow.

Earlier in the week I did weld up my new glovebox for the bronco and installed. Then ran wires all underneath the Dashboard. VERY IMPRESSED with this American Autowire kit that’s bronco specific and is ready for high amped alternators, LED lights and so on.

now just draping over the motor, fender skirts and windshield so I can weld up 50 years of holes I dont want! Plans are to route wires, etc exactly straight back from where they end on the motor.

can’t wait to get this done then move back onto cleaning up the Sniper system.
