And of course it rains today…. Lol

while I am still working inside on stuff, not being able to park cars outside while I do so is a bit of a drag, especially since I was planning on doing drywall work which typically creates a huge dust storm.
oh, well…. Lol
You left out the part where it's raining and COLD!!

I would have preferred to hangout with you choking back drywall dust, instead of working on my son's broken SUV by the side of the road in a COLD non-stop rain.

Maybe next time....

I am not a huge fan of the epoxy coated floors in garages. No disrespect to the folks that like them, but I think the garage floor tells a story of what has been done in the garage and the floor isn't meant to be "pretty". Having said that, the garage floors at the condo unit I have were ground smooth and sealed, and I find them a bit too slick when I am half in a vehicle under a dash, and my feet can't get any traction on the floor. So... I decided to get rubber floor mats for my garage.

I bought a black diamond plate tread mat at home depot as it was #1, relatively cheap, and #2, the perfect dimension to fit under my four post lift. Having been happy about how that worked, I decided to go for a larger one for the other bay but couldn't find one the size I wanted locally or on the Home Depot website, so I contacted Garage Floor Inc directly and ordered a 10' x 25' roll of the same black diamond tread. They were professional, cost effective and quick to deliver, so now I have the work spaces of my garage condo covered with something that helps contain fluid leaks, gives me traction when I am working on vehicles, looks good and also makes it easy to spot nuts and bolts that get dropped on the floor while working.

Ask me again in a year how happy I am with it, but right now, its two thumbs up for me. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, butI'm not trying to please everyone, just myself. lolgarage condo floor mat1.JPG

And for what its worth, Sunday was the ultimate "why does owning a garage condo make sense?" day. The place was *nuts*. Short of our annual car shows, I have never seen it this busy. Multiple folks hosting Chiefs" viewing parties, open air BBQ's, folks just doing wrenching, etc... The weather was drop dead perfect for folks to come out.

We had Bentley's, new and old Porsches, muscle cars, Harley's, 4x4's, an old Lotus, you name it, I bet we had something for you. I'll post a few pics but it won't do the day justice...IMG_2860.JPGIMG_2868.JPGIMG_2867.JPGIMG_2856.JPGIMG_2870.JPG

lol Well, anyone who speaks fluent Latin that visits my garage can feel free to correct us. And then we will ask them to leave and never come back.

For the rest of us, I bet no one ever figures out that its not an accurate translation... and that fits *perfectly* the character of my garage.

Its all good. :)

Sorta, yes…. I have a heater that almost does the job, if it’s below 20 I tend to not bother, but 30 degree weather is no problem, it gets plenty warm enough. I have a couple of standalone a units that do okay as well, as long as it’s not 100 degrees out. I’d love to get proper HVAC installed but being landlocked, I really haven’t quite got it figured out yet.

I’m out there at least a couple of times a week when I am in town, pretty much year round. Should be home on Sunday from the east coast and will likely be out there. I’ll try to drop you a note when I know for sure, you are welcome to come on out.

Skelly, thanks for heading over and hanging out! It was nice to put a face with a name. I’ll head over to your shop next timeand maybe we can even drag Jagman out of hiding… lol

Here's the sign outside the garage. Its the logo we used for the website and is sort of the last legacy reminder of that group, but I hope to rekindle the flame and start hosting wrenching sessions again.

As it is, I have occasionally hosted some various local club events at the garage condo over the years, such as one last years "First Friday" Midwest Chevelle club gatherings. Here's a picture of a couple of us in the process of swapping a 305 for crate engine (semi built 355) into a '70 Chevelle owned by the guy on the right. At that point, you can see that I had moved my four post lift (Auto Lifter M6, which I believe was the precursor to the Backyard Buddy, its very similar in design) from my house to the garage condo.

I also found a picture of Dan's (my neighbor) garage and car to give a good idea about how far some folks take their garages.Dans 55 chevy.JPG
Sharp '55! I helped a good friend do a full restoration on his '56 BelAir with a few upgrades along the way. 6 cyl to a 327 to a LT1 then to a LS3 with 4L60E and 8 months ago he ordered a new full chassis from the Roadster Shop. It showed up a month ago and he has been busy tearing down the chassis for powdercoat etc. Next week he wants to bring it all over for the chassis swap.

Hey Randy (@TimeWarpF100 ) ! Its an honor to see you in my thread! You were part of my inspiration for going for this truck.

The truck is titled as a '66 and has a 428 CJ with a C-6 ****** in it, Crown Vic front end/discs and no air bags required to achieve the stance. I got rid of my 2018 F-150 with a Coyote in it (beautiful truck but way too nice for the likes of me) IMG_1776.JPG

I bought my new/old truck from a local guy that has a jones for putting FE block engines in mid-60's F100's. He did a nice job of it, body off restoration, all rust removed, but its a platform I think I can have some fun with and take to the next level but still not feel bad about making Home Depot runs with it. 1966 Ford F-100.jpg

So, I finally got around to installing the fold up work surface... I wish I had done this a while ago, its turning out to be very handy.

I started with this...

IMG_3148.jpg

And ended with this...

IMG_3159.JPG

And when I don't need it, I just flip it up and it looks like this.

IMG_3157.jpg

I wouldn't want to do any heavy duty hammering on it, but its solid enough to lay parts out on it (battery in the picture as a demonstration) and if you look underneath the cabinet above it, you'd see a ticket holder that I acquired from a defunct restaurant that works great for holding instruction sheets. I am planning on putting an under cabinet light in there, and below it, I am going to permanently mount the pump for my quickjack ramps so that its always in place and ready to go.

The surface height is at 36", the pictures are sort of misleading but its not mounted too low.

Its tidier than it looks, I'll put a few things away next time I am out there and post a better picture.

I'm liking the concept of the fold down workspace, I have a corner of my home garage where I don't want to commit to a full time workbench.

What kind of hinges did you use?

30 inch Piano hinge, Home Depot special. Its not overly heavy duty but it will hold the weight without issue. The worksurface is a basic pine butcher block. Let me know when you can head over, you can take a look and I will drool over one of your BMW's. lol

Ha, funny that should mention the BMWs...I just left my eye doctors office, he's the one that pals around with one of the owners of your condo complex. We talk a lot since he and his brother race Miata's and he's seen my Miata.

He had bought his wife a BMW 1 series convertible a couple of years ago, and he's seen my 650i convertible. His neighbor was moving out of country, so he bought his 2009 650i. Black on black, just like mine. His is immaculate, a very pretty car!

Lately (and mostly after you were out here @Skellyii , so this is your fault!), I have really got a hankering to build a 197x BMW 3.0 CSL, similar to this...

1707327263596.png

We will see if I actually pull the trigger but I have been looking for a decent project. In the meantime, I just picked up my '66 F100, so its not like I am hurting for toys to play with. lol

Mr Pink, do it! You'll have fun. While I am a purist when it comes to 944's, I won't sling any mud your way for dropping a VW slug in the engine compartment, it should be a ton of fun for you. I'm not huge on the Renegade conversions (Chevy LS1's) but the VW and Subie engine swaps in a 944 chassis are pretty cool, imo.

Speaking of cars, I'm tempted to put in a bid on this Audi. It's a non-runner, but has good bones. My eye doctor and my son are trying to talk me out of it. Both of them want me to stick with BMWs.

Not sure, you're more in touch with PCA than I am.

Man...the Audi went REALLY cheap. But everyone but you talked me out of it.

I would have bought it anyway if I had a place to store it. I have Waaaaay too many projects in the pipeline right now, and I need to clear some space. :(

Come on now, let’s be honest here…. You can never have too many projects. Lol

Speaking of, let me know when you want to do the belts on your 944. I am pretty sure I have some left over seals and other misc front engine parts (all new/never installed) you can have.

No such thing as too many projects....tell that to my fiancé, she and my son just dropped a couple more on me this week. ;)

A couple of interesting vehicles at the condos yesterday….

IMG_3288.jpeg

The owner claims to know Elon through doing consulting work for Tesla (maybe he does, maybe he doesn’t, I doubt I’ll ever be able to verify that fact) but when my company was doing work for Tesla, they offered to reward us by paying 60 cents on the dollar on our invoices so we could say we had the privilege of working for Tesla, they weren't offering to give us cars. lol. We said goodbye to them after three projects.

The cars are interesting but definitely not my cup of gasoline.

Man, I hate to rag on someone else's taste in vehicles, but that cybertruck reminds me of the pathetic efforts I made at programming car oriented games when I was first learning to write code. Of course at that time, no one else was doing much better. :(

Scott, It was nice to meet you this past weekend during the "Finally Friday" car show. Everyone there was super friendly and inviting. Too bad it rained!

I shot Bill an email asking about upcoming openings so we'll see where it goes. Being 35 minutes from my house makes it a tough decision. I still look forward to coming up for some more open house events. Next time I'll bring "Gertie the Ford". (As my wife calls it)

Cheers!

I was out there a few days ago ( a friend has his shop there - he does lots of Morris Minors and Sprites) and I drove all over the place looking for your sign so I would know which unit was yours - could not find it and a couple I asked knew you but couldn't pinpoint your unit either. Is your sign still up and did we just miss it?

AKA MiniDave Text me at 913-948-3652 if you get a chance!

Sorry, I’ve been neglecting this thread for a while. My garage is in the building just north of the clubhouse, on the west side of the building.

ill shoot you a note, but I’ve been out of commission for a bit…IMG_4018.jpegIMG_3929.jpeg

Ouch!

That looks like it hurt.

Remind me not to complain about getting laid up with European Covid this summer. ☹️
