After a day of heavy rain with galeforce winds yesterday afternoon, it was nice to be out in the dry this morning.



Cold tap in the bathroom basin has decided to stop working so thats a job for this afternoon. It now only turns 3/4 of a turn and comes to a stop with no water at all coming out.
The hot tap turns 3 or so turns from shut to full and will spray water up the side of basin and the wall on full.

Been making a WHSmith shop in OO using the scalescenes card downloads. Just need to add the chimney layer but i printed the wrong one.

Llysyfran reservoir this morning. Set off with a fleece and jacket on as it was a bit chilly. Regretted it after 5 minutes as i was sweating like a pig.

Lucy had her first trip out in the beetle today. Not 100% convinced at first then settled down once the window was opened a bit.

Walk up the hills this morning to the big pond.

Got an odd starting problem on the caravelle.
Checked the 5 week old battery this morning and it was 12.78v. Turned the key and it turned over and over really slowly a few times but eventually started.
Took the dogs out for a walk and when i went to start it to drive back it started within a second or so of the key being turned.
Seems to struggle on the first start on a morning but spins the starter faster every other time.
Gonna whip out the starter, replace the bush in the gearbox bellhousing, clean up all the connections and add an extra earth lead to the starter mounting bolt (as the one at the battery, under the drivers seat gets pretty warm when cranking).
Not sure what else to do.
Starter was rebuilt just over a year ago with a new solenoid too. Alternator has a new regulator in it and is putting out 14.3v at idle and the battery earth lead is only a few months old too.

Pulled the old starter bush out with an m12 bolt.

Tapped the new one in with a bolt with a nut

Replaced all the terminals on the cabling as most were falling apart too and also added an extra 35mm2 (300A) earth cable to the starter mounting bolt.
Hopefully that's sorted it. Will find out tomorrow morning.

They're apparently taking it down this track. Its only 6ft wide with a ditch at either side where the bushes are in the background. I quite fancied staying to watch it get stuck (or rolled onto its side).

I'll see how much the track is trashed when i go there next. They're only gonna be able to get it down the hill if they drive over the bushes with wheels in the ditch either side of the track.

Need to find a seat belt receiver for the caravelle as it now needs a lot of jiggling and pulling to release the belt. Not sure if its fixable but the receiver is glued together so it'll likely break trying to take it apart. Suppose its 36 years of wear.

Its the original belt date stamped 1987.

It used to be a wooded valley with a river running through it which was flooded when the reservoir was built. Can't find any maps online that show older than 1830 so not 100% sure but don't think there was any mining there. Its all slate so usually just dug out of the hillside.
The UK does like its non native trees for some reason.

Theres another 2 baseboards, one on each side of 16ft x 2ft too. Both just bare boards at the moment though so not photo worthy. Track is really expensive.
There will be a station on the board along the left and a storage yard on the other side, both of which should be long enough for UK prototypical 7 car HST or reasonable length goods trains.
Atleast its easier modelling UK railways rather than US ones with 90+ wagon trains. Just don't have the space for mile long trains as i'd be looking at 70ft long models.

Run to the tip at Fishguard this afternoon, then to the vets for Lucy's booster jab, followed by a walk along the beach and breakwater at Goodwick.

Went to Fathings Hook (the access point to the north end of Llys-y-fran reservoir) this morning and they have indeed taken the grader along the track. They've removed a lot of vegetation so theres now a huge area. I assume they're getting ready to fell all the conifers and the space created is for log storage and space for articulated forestry trucks to turn around.






Water level had risen enough that you can no longer walk along the bank of the reservoir.
