I managed to hit two sales today while out running errends.

The first seemed to be a permanent garage sale type thing, but I found the two hex handles for $3. Then, while on my way home, I stopped by 75% of day at an estate sale, finding the drum switch, three boxes of small machinist screws, and a tiny machinists vise for $5.25

The one new sale listed was past Stateline in Nevada. My wife found a little wooden box but there were no tools. On the way back we spotted a sign for a TOO we hadn’t seen yesterday so we checked it out. There were a few worthwhile tools and a box of mostly US made Craftsman. The screwdriver is Vaco and the DBE wrench is Lectrolite.IMG_6271.jpeg

On the way home we revisited the best sale from yesterday. Several of the tools that I wanted to go through had been sold but there was plenty left. A selection of Craftsman ratchets and a few sockets. A few Thorsen universal sockets and a ratchet. A Snap-on socket and what I think might be a Snap-on 3/8” drive spinner. A couple of Plomb tools and a mystery 1/2” drive breaker. Oh yeah, a set of yellow CA ‘56 plates.-DonFullSizeRender.jpeg

Are those the compound set with yellowish handles? More pics on those please.

No markings other than the Made In Germany around the pivot on both sides. The jaws are smooth and the tips are angled as shown in the 3rd picture. I don't think that the jaws have been modified after leaving the factory.

I take that back. It's actually a can opener! PEERLESS brand, patented in 1890!
^ That post is from August 23rd. I must have missed it. I had a heck of a time identifying who actually produced that widget.
The "Peerless", "Gem", and "Delmonico" (which were really popular brand names, apparently) were all produced by the Voos Company, who also coincidentally appear to have been the makers of at least one or two other "mystery widgets" we've seen here before.
I'm still looking for some slack time to really dive into my "can opener/jaw wrench/corkscrew/lid lifter" material - really quite an interesting genre.

On Friday I went to the Hillsville, VA Labor Day Weekend antique market and gun show. Met up with 2 friends and had a good time, though I was not the big spender. One of the others bought a K43 mag for $250, and was quite happy.

Here's my accumulation:
Carter Master Technician Carburetor Tool Kit.
Chapman metric set (modern)
Williams H-1264, 3/4 dr., 2" socket (post-war)
Greenfield Tap & Die No. 3 tap wrench
Expansible bit (Carpenter Set No. 1?)
Stanley Screwdriver bit for a manual brace & bit, for Carpenter Set No. 1
Countersink bit for a manual brace & bit, for Carpenter Set No. 1
Marble's match safe, probably the most common variant, missing the bale
CS Osborne leather punches
2ID Reenlistment belt buckle
Pair of clips for an M1 Garand. One is definitely WW2, the other?
WF-73 7/16" flex socket
Mayhew 1/4" punch
Schrader 160lb. tire pressure gauge
7" tin snips for GMTK
41-W-2068 S-wrench. This is 1/2 x 1/2, used on base nuts of Indian 741 and 841 motorcycles (thanks, Lugz, for setting those conditions!)

The Carter kit was the score of my day, at $45. It's reasonably complete, and missing two tools for use on a WW2 vintage jeep carb:
T109-76 (Carter 1/4 x 5/16 end wrench)
T109-80 (Carter 3/8" float and unloader gauge)
On the plus side, it had several tools in it which weren't Carter, including a couple of Macs and a Plvmb 1/4 dr. socket.

@Outlawmws I screwed up late in the day, when I returned the (complete) $35 Optimus 99 stove to the vendor's table. Still kicking myself for that one. Not that I need another vintage stove, but....

Nice haul. The Mayhew punch could be a GMTK correct 41-P-3642 Drive Pin Punch 1/4" - Mayhew 4"
Are you going to mention the nice S-K carry box you left behind? Very disappointing. I like the carb set!

My pick ups this weekend! It was kind of slow in my area, 3 yard sale and 1 market place picks. The hammers and vise are from a guy whose rental space is getting shut down by the local FD. He has tons of hammers, axes, vises and everything in between he’s unloading so I’ll be back. Also it’s literally 2 minutes from home.

A proto fiberglass handle, my first and only glass handle hammer
Plumb 20 oz. In great shape
Ampco H-44 the handle has a crack but I’m just going to pin and glue it.
L. Hugoniot-Tissot hand vise from France

IMG_5675.jpeg

Sale 1, 5 for a buck
2 light weight extension cords
Male cord cap
Klein jab saw handle
Craftsman level

IMG_5680.jpeg

Second sale was an un-branded 00 arbor press, it had a tag riveted/pin on there that’s missing. $20 seems well made and has the plate.

IMG_5676.jpeg

Last sale was 4 duplo color primer and 4 rust reformer
2 channel locks for $15

IMG_5678.jpeg

Finally was a freebie on the road. A set of back to back shelves. I split them to get two set out of it. 7’ tall and 6’ wide well made all the shelves are router in and they were dowel pinned together. Property of Tufts university sticker on there

Big influence on me in junior high and high school both.
His works command ridiculous prices in the art galleries on cruise ships.
I didn't realize he was still alive, but from what I've read not doing all that well. I definitely remember having a book a paper airplanes by him that were very groovy.

Been a busy month and a half. The store our booths are in just opened this past weekend. My wife has the spot outside this room with a bunch of vintage farm/country kitchen, interior, jewelry and clothes.

Almost all of this (and more) was built and sourced within the last 45 days. Pretty much all garage and estate sales, thrift stores, and auctions. The red shelf on the left was even garbage picked
Most of the tools are US made, save for a few Suzuki/Fiat/Honda wrenches and a few German tools. Of course I cherry picked things out of some of the lots I bought. I'll share those later.
.
The bench is almost all reclaimed/leftover material, aside from the 2x4's. I aged it all myself and made it look used with a bunch of different techniques. This was super time consuming because I didn't plan ahead, so anytime I wanted to add something I had to repeat the process on every piece.

Still have quite a bit to put in here. They didn't want us drilling into the block walls, which is understandable, but I need somewhere to hang some larger things. I was given the OK to use the beams above the ceiling to anchor something to, now I just need to decide what that will look like.

@GarageHobbyist NICE job distressing that wood! What material are the cross ties above that bench? The way the light hits them, some look like rebar, some allthread, some IDK, but all seem to have hex heads up front - or are those just nuts and I can’t see the openings? I guess their only purpose is to provide hanging space for smalls?

Thanks, it took A LOT of patience to get it done. During the friends and family soft opening I had a few people mention to me and others it brought them back to their childhood and being in their dad/grandpas shop or garage. That made it well worth it!

You are correct, the rods' only purpose is for hanging smalls. They are rebar with nuts welded to the end, ground flat, and cold blued. 3/8 rebar is the wrong diameter to thread, but 7/16 nuts fit over it just bareley. I also did the same along the back, but the rebar passes through those nuts into the 2x4. The rebar is just a snug friction fit through the 2x4's.

The cups on the left holding the screwdrivers and other small tools are pistons from a Hercules engine out of an Oliver OC-3 with some scrap pins off of a tow truck.

I haven't figured out what to do with the plumbing stub to the left. This store is in an old nursing home, and this was a bathroom at one point 🤣😂

I'd hang a "Electrical Shock Hazard! Do Not Touch!" sign on it and see how many people touch it just to make sure.

As a customer, I'd want you to show me that bow saw on the wall above and behind the bench.
Thats a good one :ROFLMAO:

The only reason this was even possible is because we don't have to staff the store. They are open 7 days a week except for Thanksgiving and Christmas. After the initial set-up, we just have to stop in and restock our own booths, getting stuff down isn't our problem.

This store is known for having packed booths full of vintage and weird, and has been voted "Best of" for 10 or 11 years in a bunch of categories through several outlets. This is a second building behind the original one. We had a great opening weekend, and I restocked things already.

Struck out on a couple estate sales, nothing noteworthy. Not far from where I live in a residential area found in the street an open end metric wrench. Embossed "Hm", the internet said this is a tool company in India. Will keep it in the extra metric wrench box in case I have to grind down/customize a wrench in order to get to a nut in a tight location.IMG_20240904_163828483.jpg
